5௰ தமிழ் பற்று கொண்ட இளம் பெண்கள் - 12 வயதில் இருந்து 23 வயதுக்கு உட்பட்டவர்கள்.உயர்பாடசாலையில் , பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் படிக்கும் மாணவிகள். இதுவரை இவர்களை பெற்றோர்கள் இதுவரை வெளியே செல்ல அனுமதித்ததில்லை.

இரவு 12 மணி. பெண்கள் அனைவரும் சுனாமி நிதி சேகரிப்பத்ற்காக தமிழர் புணர்வாழ்வு கழகத்தின் சார்பில் முருகன் கோவிலுக்கு செல்கிறார்கள். கோவில் அமைந்கிருப்பது ஒரு ஆள் நடமாட்டம் குறைந்த இடத்தில் [இரவு வேளைகளில்].

அப் பெண்கலின் ஒருவரின் தந்தை வருகிறார்.பெண்களை வெளியே கண்டதும் கோபம் கொள்கிறார்.நிர்வாகிகளிம் கதைக்க அவர்கள் கோவில் சட்டம் இது தான் என சொல்கிறார்கள்.

மனிதம் இல்லாத மனிதர்Kஅளுடம் என்ன கதை என நினைத்து அழும் பெண்களுடம் அவர் வெளியேறுகிறார்.

பெண்கள் ஏன் அழுதார்கள் என்ரு கேட்காதீர்கள். நிர்வாகிகளில் ஒருவர் தனது வாகனத்தை பெண்கலை இடிக்க வருவது போல செய்து விரட்டி இருக்கிறார். அத்துடன் 12 மணியில் நடு ரோட்டில் வெளியே விட்டால் அவர்கள் தான் என்ன செய்வார்கள்?

He said that President Kumaratunga, who has two grown-up children of her own, was against sending children to orphanages and wanted to adopt a Tamil girl child.

Mr Peiris told the BBC the adoption was a matter to be handled by the National Child Protection Authority, the body charged with dealing with adoptions in Sri Lanka.

Asked why the president - who is from the Sinhalese community - wanted to adopt a Tamil child, he said it was not intended as a political move in the light of the conflict on the island between the country's Sinhalese and Tamil communities.

He said it was a "symbolic gesture" to show that the president's concern for her people transcended issues of ethnicity or religion.

Mr Peiris said her decision to adopt was intended as a message not just to politicians, but to the whole country about the disproportionate effect the tsunami had had on Sri Lanka's children.

'Ploy'


Last week the Sri Lankan authorities banned the adoption of children affected by the tsunami until further notice.

The move followed concern expressed by the UN that some orphans were being targeted by criminal gangs.

There are no statistics in Sri Lanka for the number of children orphaned by the disaster. The government says it is compiling a census.

A senior Tamil Tiger spokesman, SP Thamilselvan, dismissed the president's announcement as a propaganda ploy.

He said it had been done to neutralise international criticism of the Sri Lankan government after it prevented UN Secretary General Kofi Annan from visiting tsunami-hit regions under Tiger control during a visit to the island on Sunday.

"This will not placate the Tamil people," he said.

Mr Thamilselvan said that the rift between the Tigers and the government had widened because of the tsunami.

The Tigers are also unhappy about what they see as the government's failure to provide adequate relief in areas controlled by them in the north and east.

The government says it has provided more aid to Tamil Tiger-controlled areas than to Sinhalese parts of the country.

"The Tamils thought the visit of Kofi Annan may [have] repaired the damage, help rebuild the confidence... again that did not happen," Mr Thamilselvan said.

On 30 December President Kumaratunga said the threat of a resumption of war "is remoter than on 25 December - the day before the tsunami - because the LTTE has suffered heavy casualties, if not anything else".

[b]Sri Lanka's president has acknowledged she had asked United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan not to visit a tsunami-hit area controlled by Tamil rebels.


President Chandrika Kumaratunga said in Colombo Monday she advised Mr. Annan not go to the northern town of Jaffna held by Tamil Tiger rebels because of concerns over security.

Rebel officials expressed anger, and hundreds of Tamils demonstrated Sunday outside the U.N. offices in Jaffna to protest the cancellation of Mr. Annan's planned visit.

Mr. Annan said although he was the guest of the Sri Lankan government, he was concerned about everyone who needs humanitarian aid. He also urged the government and the Tamil rebels to put aside their differences as the region struggles to rebuild.

வியட்நாம் நாட்டில் ஏராளமான உயிர்களை பலி வாங்கிய பறவைக் காய்ச்சல் நோய் மீண்டும் பூதாகரமாக வெடிக்கத் தொடங்கி உள்ளது. அங்கு கடந்த ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் வரை பறவைக்காய்ச்சல் நோய்க்கு 22 பேர் பலியாகி இருந்தனர் இந்நிலையில் கோசி-மின் சிட்டி மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டு இருந்த 16 வயது இளம்பெண் ஒருவள் சிகிச்சை பலனின்றி உயிரிழந்தாள். கடந்த 10 நாட்களில் உயிரிழக்கும் 3-வது நபர் இந்தப் பெண் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. இதையடுத்து அங்கு பறவைக்காய்ச்சலுக்கு பலியானோர் எண்ணிக்கை 23 ஆக உயர்ந்து உள்ளது.
மேகாங்-டெல்டா மாகாணத்தைச் சேர்ந்த அந்த இளம்பெண்ணுக்கு H5N1 என்ற பறவைக்காய்ச்சல் கிருமி தொற்றி இருப்பது அண்மையில் தெரிய வந்தது. இதையடுத்து தலைநகர் கோசி-மின்-சிட்டியில் உள்ள சிறப்பு மருத்துவமனையில் சேர்த்து சிகிச்சை அளித்தனர். இருப்பினும் தீவிர சிகிச்சை பலனின்றி அந்தப் பெண் உயிரிழந்தாள். இதனிடையே அதே மாகாணத்தைச் சேர்ந்த 18 வயது பெண்ணுக்கும் H5N1 வைரஸ் கிருமிகள் தொற்றி இருப்பது உறுதி செய்யப்பட்டு உள்ளது. இந்நிலையில் பறவைக்காய்ச்சல் நோய் வியட்நாமில் மேலும் தீவிரமாக பரவும் வாய்ப்பு இருப்பதாக மருத்துவ நிபுணர்கள் எச்சரித்து உள்ளனர்.
சென்ற ஆண்டில் ஆசிய நாடுகளில் பறவைக்காய்ச்சல் பரவிய போது வெகுவாக பாதிக்கப்பட்ட தாய்லாந்தில் புதிதாக வேறு யாரும் பாதிக்கப்படவில்லை. இதேப் போல மலேசியாவில் பறவைக்காய்ச்சல் முற்றிலுமாக ஒழிக்கப்பட்டு விட்டதாக அந்நாட்டு அரசு கூறி உள்ளது. சென்ற ஆண்டில் பறவைக்காய்ச்சல் காரணமாக தாய்லாந்தில் 12 பேர் இறந்தனர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.


<b>ஒலிவ் எண்ணெய் மார்பக புற்றுநோயை எப்படி தடுக்கிறது? </b>

ஒலிவ் எண்ணெய்யானது, மார்பக புற்றுநோய் ஆபத்தில் இருந்து பெண்களை பாதுகாக்கும் என்று ஏற்கனவே கூறப்பட்டு உள்ளது. ஆனால் மார்பக புற்றுநோய் ஆபத்தை சமாளிக்கும் அளவுக்கு ஒலிவ் எண்ணெய்யில் என்ன விஷயம் உள்ளது? என்பது பற்றி சரியாக கூறப்படவில்லை. இந்நிலையில் இந்த சந்தேகத்துக்கு தற்போது விடை கிடைத்துள்ளது. ஒலிவ் எண்ணெய்யில் காணப்படும் oleic acid என்ற அமிலம் தான் இந்த அற்புத செயலுக்கு காரணம் என்று தெரிய வந்துள்ளது. மார்பக புற்றுநோய் கட்டிகளில் வேகமாக செயல்படும் HER-2/neu என்ற குறிப்பிட்ட மரபணுவின் ஆட்டத்தை இந்த அமிலம் வெற்றிகரமாக தடுத்து நிறுத்துகிறது. விளைவு, மார்பக புற்றுநோய் ஆபத்து குறைவதுடன், இதய நோய்களும் வெகுவாக தடுக்கப்படுகிறது.
மேற்படி அமிலம் HER-2/neu மரபணுவின் ஆட்டத்தை தடுப்பதுடன் நின்று விடாமல், மார்பக புற்றுநோய்க்கான Herceptin என்ற மருந்தின் செயல்திறனையும் பன்மடங்கு ஊக்கப்படுத்துகிறது. ஒலிவ் எண்ணெய்யை உட்கொள்வது முற்றிலும் பாதுகாப்பானது. இதனால் நச்சுத்தன்மை ஏற்படும் என்பதற்கு ஒரு ஆதாரமும் இல்லை. ஒலிவ் எண்ணெய்யை இயற்கையாகவே உணவில் சேர்த்துக் கொள்ளும் மக்களுக்கு மார்பக புற்றுநோய் ஆபத்து ஏற்படுவதில்லை.

[b]Colombo: President Chandrika Kumaratunga wants to adopt a minority ethnic Tamil child orphaned by last month's tsunami, the state-run Daily News reported on Tuesday.

Kumaratunga, who is from Sri Lanka's Sinhalese majority, was "visibly shaken" at a meeting she was heading to discuss rehabilitation efforts. She said "she will adopt a Tamil girl victim of the tsunami disaster," the Daily News said.

Kumaratunga, who has two children, is against sending youngsters to orphanages, it said. The December 26 tsunami killed more than 30,000 people in this island nation, and people have expressed hope that the disaster will help Sri Lankans come together across the ethnic divide.

A truce between Tamil rebels and the government has held with few infractions since 2002, but peace talks broke down in April 2003. A civil war between the two sides has killed 65,000 people since 1983. The rebels seek to carve out a Tamil homeland.
