திருகோணமலை புறநகர்ப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள அபயபுர கிராமத்தில், ஜே.வி.பி. நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினரான ஜயந்த விஜேசேகர, வழிமறிக்கப்பட்டு, இவரது வாகனம் தாக்கப்பட்டதுடன், இவர்மீதும் தாக்குவதற்கு முயற்சிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளது.


உடனடியாக அவ்விடத்திற்கு விரைந்த சிறீலங்கா பொலிசார், ஆத்திரத்துடன் தாக்குதல் நடாத்திய சிங்கள மக்களைக் கலைத்து, விஜேசேகரவைக் காப்பாற்றியுள்ளனர்.


சிங்கள விமுக்தி முன்னணி (எஸ்.வி.எஃப்) என்ற அமைப்பினால் நான்கு நாட்களுக்கான கடையடைப்புப் போராட்டம் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டு, இரண்டாம் நாளான வெள்ளிக்கிழமையன்றும் ஹர்த்தால் தொடர்கிறது. இந்நிலையில், இந்த அமைப்பின் பின்னணியிலிருந்து ஆதரவு வழங்குவதாக ஜே.வி.பி. மீது சிங்கள மக்கள் ஆத்திரமடைந்துள்ளனர். இந்த ஹர்த்தாலினால் பாதிப்படைந்த அபயபுர கிராம மக்கள், அப்பகுதியின் வீதியில் வந்த நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினரின் வாகனத்தை மறித்து, தாக்குதல் நடாத்தியுள்ளனர்.


வாகனத்தைவிட்டு கீழே இறங்கிய உறுப்பினரை, மிகவும் கேவலமாகப் பேசியதுடன், தாக்கவும் முற்பட்டுள்ளனர். இந்நிலையில் பொலிசார் விரைந்து வந்ததால், மேலதிக குழப்பங்களின்றி, இவர் அங்கிருந்து அகற்றப்பட்டதாகத் தெரிகிறது.


பொலிசார் வந்தும்கூட அங்கிருந்து விலக மறுத்த ஆர்ப்பாட்டக்காரர்கள் மீது, பொலிசார் கண்ணீர்ப்புகைக் குண்டுகளை வீசியதாகவும், நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர், பின்னர் அவரது கந்தளாய் வீட்டிற்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டதாகவும் மேலதிக செய்திகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன

நேற்று முன்தினமிரவு மஹிந்த ராஜபக்ஷ தனது சிரேஷ்ட அமைச்சர்கள் சிலரை அழைத்து சுதந்திரக்கட்சியின் திட்டங்கள், வடக்கு கிழக்கு உள்ளூராட்சி தேர்தல், சமாதான பேச்சுவார்த்தை தொடர்பாக ஆராய்ந்துள்ளார். இதில் அமைச்சர்களான ஜெயராஜ் பெர்னாண்டோபுள்ளே, ஜோன் செனவிரட்ன, அனுரபிரியதர்ஷன யாப்பா, நிமால் சிறிபாலடிசில்வா, சுசில் பிரேம ஜயந்த ஆகியோர் கலந்துகொண்டனர்.

இச்சந்தர்ப்பத்திலேயே வடக்கு கிழக்கில் நடைபெறும் கொலைகளை உடனடியாக நிறுத்த வேண்டுமாயின் பேச்சுவார்த்தையை உடனடியாக ஆரம்பிக்க வேண்டும். பேச்சுவார்த்தைக்கான இடம் குறித்து தொடர்ந்து முரண்பாடுகள் இருக்கக்கூடாது. முதல் சுற்று பேச்சுவார்த்தையை நோர்வேயில் நடத்திவிட்டு இரண்டாவது சுற்று பேச்சுவார்த்தையை ஆசிய நாட்டில் நடத்தலாம் என அமைச்சர்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டியுள்ளனர்.

இந்த விட்டுக்கொடுப்பின் மூலம் அரசாங்கத்திற்கு சர்வதேச ஆதரவை திரட்ட முடியும் என்றும் அமைச்சர்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டியுள்ளனர். அதற்கு ஜனாதிபதி இணக்கம் தெரிவித்ததாக தெரியவருகிறது.

COLOMBO (Reuters) - Attackers threw a grenade into the compound of truce monitors in Sri Lanka's restive east early on Saturday, damaging vehicles and a building but causing no injuries, officials said, as fears of a return to war grow.

The first direct attack against the monitors since a 2002 cease-fire halted a two-decade civil war came just hours after the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) reprimanded both Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels and the government over a spike in violence.

"A hand grenade was lobbed into our compound in Batticaloa and exploded," said SLMM spokeswoman Helen Olafsdottir. "We don't know who was behind it. It is the first time one of our offices has been directly attacked."

Some 60 unarmed monitors, all from Nordic countries, have been there since 2002.

On Friday, they questioned whether there was still a cease-fire to monitor after more than 100 people were killed in December in attacks that have continued into January.

Fears of a return to a war that killed more than 64,000 people before the truce are growing in tandem with deadly attacks by suspected rebels on the military and reported abuses by the armed forces against civilians.

Suspected Tigers killed nine sailors in an ambush on a main supply route in Sri Lanka's north on Thursday. It came after similar ambushes killed 39 military personnel in December.

UNDECLARED WAR

Analysts are sceptical of rebel denials of involvement in the attacks, but say evidence suggests elements in the military are hitting back either directly or by helping renegade rebels target the Tigers, despite their denials.

Diplomats and defence experts say both sides are engaged in an undeclared war that has hammered the stock market and could spiral into an all-out conflict that would choke a $20 billion economy dependent on textile and tea exports and tourism.

"Killings and serious attacks continue and the situation is getting worse," the SLMM warned on Friday in a statement entitled "SLMM questions whether there is still a cease-fire in Sri Lanka".

The Sri Lankan government has repeatedly said it will not be provoked into resuming war, but new President Mahinda Rajapakse is having to juggle the demands of hardline allies who hate the Tigers and an increasingly frustrated military.

The Tigers have threatened to resume their armed struggle this year unless the government gives them a separate Tamil homeland and wide political powers in the north and east, where they already run a de facto state.

The rebels say they want lasting peace, but they also say they are ready to use suicide bombers as in the past if war resumes.

இன்று வெள்ளிக்கிழமை மாலை திருகோணமலை மாவட்டம், பாலம்போட்டாறிற்கு அருகில் உள்ள கதவணைக்குளம் பகுதியில் அமைந்திருந்த விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் மினிமுகாம் ஒன்றின் மீது ஸ்ரீலங்கா படையினர் தாக்குதலை நடத்தியுள்ளனர். இதனால் இந்த முகாமுடனான தொடர்பு முற்றாகத் துண்டிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளன.
ஐந்து முதல் பத்துவரையான போராளிகள் இருந்த இந்த முகாம் மீதே படையினர் தாக்குதல் நடத்தியுள்ளனர். இதன்போது ஏற்பட்ட சேதவிபரங்கள் குறித்த எந்தத் தகவலும் இதுவரை கிடைக்காத போதும், நான்கு போராளிகள் வரை காணாமல் போயுள்ளதாக விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளன.

Lankan soldiers attack LTTE minicamp in Trincomalee - Elilan

A minicamp of the Liberation Tigers in Trincomalee district was attacked by Sri Lankan troopers Friday evening, the Tigers have informed the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) truce monitors in the east port town. The Tigers have lost contact with the minicamp which was attacked by the Sri Lankan soldiers around 5:15 p.m. in Kadavanaikulam near Palampoddaru Bridge, LTTE sources said. At least 4 cadres were reported missing. Exact casualty figures were not available at the moment.
The minicamp, where five to ten cadres were stationed, was located between Thambalakamam and Trincomalee, at Kadavanaikulam, 20 km southwest of Trincomalee town, according to the LTTE sources.

A Sri Lanka Navy camp is located at Pathinipuram, beyond the no-go zone, a few kilometers away from the minicamp that was attacked inside the LTTE controlled area.

LTTE's Political Head of Trincomalee District, Elilan, has lodged an initial complaint with the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission about the attack.
