அவருடை 20-70-10 தரப்படுத்தல் என்பது ஒரு நிறுவனத்தில் உள்ள தொழிலாளர்களில் 20வீதம் சிறந்த பங்களிப்பு செய்பவர்களாக(start performers), 70வீதம் சராசரி தொழிலாளிகளாக ஆனால் பெருமளவு வேலையை செய்பவர்களாக (average but the workhorse), 10வீதம் கீழ்நிலையில் உள்ளவர்கள்(dead wood). இந்த முறையை அவர் தான் வழிநடத்திய GE நிறுவனத்தில் கையாண்டவர்.
இந்த 10வீதமானவர்கள் நிறுவனத்தின் செயற்பாடுகளிற்கு பாரமாக குறுக்கே இருக்கக் கூடாது, மாற்றுச் சந்தர்ப்பங்கள் வழங்கப்பட வேண்டும் (வெளியேற்றப்பட வேண்டும்) என்ற அவரது நிலைப்பாடு கொஞ்சம் சர்ச்சையை கிளப்பியிருந்தது. இதற்கு அவரது மறுமொழியாக இருந்தது அவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் தாம் வேலை செய்யும் நிறுவனத்தில் தமது தராதரம் நிலை என்ன என்ற உண்மை அறிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும் அது அவர்களது எதிர்காலத்தை மீள்திட்டமிடத்தான் உதவும் என்றார்.

"In this talk, I would like to speculate a little, on the development of life in the universe, and in particular, the development of intelligent life.
