<span style='font-size:25pt;line-height:100%'>DIG - Police, denies stories planted in the media regarding the death of 8 men at Kottawa.</span>

Colombo, 31 July: K.P.P. Pathirana DIG Police - Western Province South, denied that he had ever made any statement to the effect that those eight person killed on last Sunday 25 July were not drugged.

Earlier "Asian Tribune" carried an exclusive news report with a head line One 'Thabo' to claim responsibility for slaying of Karuna's men at a press conference planned to be held today. alleging that one Thabo drugged the eight slain men in the sago soup he made and served to those as desert after dinner.

A section of the news websites, a radio station from United Kingdom, as well as a Tamil daily from Colombo reported that K.P.P Pathirana denied that the 8 persons who were killed were not drugged before being killed by the alleged LTTE gunmen.

The Tamil daily reported quoting K.P.P. Pathirana, that when the gunshot incident took place, Karuna's group could have been sleeping and were not in the unconscious state.

<span style='color:red'>Pathirana denied that he has not made any such statement to anyone and not even to the said Tamil daily newspaper.

He clarified to \"Asian Tribune\" that after the autopsy, the stomach contents of those killed were sent to the Government Analyst for report and so far police has not received the report.

Pathirana added that the inquiry regarding the Kottawa murders are now being handled by Wickrema Perera, SP under his direction.</span>
