Playback singer Jikki dies of cancer

Chennai: Veteran South Indian playback singer of yesteryear, P G Krishnaveni, popularly known in the industry circles as Jikki, died of liver cancer at a private hospital in Chennai on Monday, hospital sources said.
She was 70 and is survived by two sons and four daughters. Her husband, A M Raja, also a famous playback singer of that period, pre-deceased her a few years ago.
Jikki was suffering from cancer for the past two years and was in and out of hospital all these days.
Jikki had sung nearly 10,000 songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and Sinhala during her career, spanning over five decades.
Born in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, she started her film career as a child artiste at the age of seven and switched over to singing at the age of 16. She had also sung several hit songs with her husband, Raja.
