அந்த ஆங்கில செய்தியில் கருணா கோழையை போல தனது உயிருக்காக நாட்டை விட்டு ஓடப்போவதில்லை என்றும் இலங்கையிலேயே தொடர்ந்து இருக்கப் போவதாகவும் கூறியுள்ளார்.

Colonel Karuna - "We are very much within Sri Lanka "

We are very much in Sri Lanka and we will never run away like cowards from this country. We never valued our lives. It is our policies that we value than anything else, said Varathan, spokesman of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam's - Eastern group.

Varathan, spokesman of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam's (LTTE) - Eastern groupp, when contacted by Asian Tribune over the telephone in their make-shift headquarters within Sri Lanka, told that their presence within Sri Lanka and it is not a secret to Velupillai Prabakaran and to his lieutenants in the North about presence in the country.

It was alleged in the Tigers dominated Eelam websites as well as in the Sri Lankan national media that Venayamoorthy Muralitharan, who is also called with a nom de guerre as Colonel Karuna Amman- the most ruthless of all the LTTE commanders, who broke away from the main rebel group on 01 March on regional issues alleging discrimination of the Jaffna leadership against Batti-Amparai districts in particular and Eastern province in general, had fled the country, betrayed and deserted his cadres and is on the run for his life.

Asian Tribune as usual initiated the investigation regarding the plight of Colonel Karuna and his men.

Information from Australia revealed that he had flown to Malaysia. When Asian Tribune investigated that piece of information it became apparent that Karunas wife and children are in Malaysia and they left for Malaysia before the invasion on 10 April by the Prabakarans army from the north.

It is believed that he followed LTTE leader Velupillai Prabakaran, who until the signing of the cessation of the hostilities with the Sri Lankan government in February 2002, kept his wife Mathivathani in Sweden.

Subsequently, Asian Tribune came across a colleague of Colonel Karuna who wishes to remain anonymous who divulged that he just spoke with Colonel Karuna over the telephone.

To ascertain the authenticity of the information Asian Tribune obtained the telephone number and dialed 001-94777 -59---- and to our surprise, it was Colonel Karuna himself answered the telephone and came on the line.

As the voice of Karuna was a familiar one. as Asian Tribune had contacted him numerous time when he participated in peace talks in Thailand and many other places, therefore there was no need for Asian Tribune to doubt about the authenticity and genuineness of the speakers voice on the other end.

Karuna told that he wanted the country and the international community in general and the people of the Eastern province in particular to know that he is very much alive and kicking and remains in Sri Lanka and will never run away just to save himself.

He further explained to Asian Tribune the reason why he left the Eastern province and he requested that whatever he speaks with Asian Tribune should be treated as off the record. Asian Tribune has decided respect the request.

Later, Karuna requested his spokesman Varathan to speak with Asian Tribune.

Varathan explained that Colonel Karuna and his group are being guarded by 100 of their own faithful elite commanders at their makeshift headquarters in Sri Lanka.

He said that earlier Sri Lankan Presidential office was in touch with them, but subsequently when TNA points man R.Sampanthan contacted Presidents office and gave assurance, if in case Sri Lankan President ditch Karuna, then TNA would give issue based support to the Presidents newly formed government and LTTE also would come forward for peace talks.

It was told that Presidents office found that Sampanthar - Prabakaran combine was better evil than Karuna and the government failed to come forward to support when they were attacked on 10 April.

Varathan further added that all those cadres who remained with Karuna were all from Batticaloa and Karuna was not in favor of spilling bloods of those young youths of Batticaloa the blossoming human flowers, merely to establish Karunas superiority over Prabakaran.

He emphatically added that there are several other ways to bring down Prabakaran. That is why we avoided bloodshed and decided to adopt innovative measure only known to us to make one individual Prabakaran to succumb once for all.

Varathan blatantly denied the allegation that they were working under the orders of the RAW (Research Analysis Wing) of India. He argued if we are working with the Indian Government, then we would not have killed Sinnathamby alias Neelan, the right hand man of Pottu Amman the intelligence chief of the LTTE and one of the two proclaimed offenders along with V.Prabhakaran in the killing of the former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Neelan was involved deeply in the plot to assassinate Rajiv Gandhi, and we would have handed him over alive to the RAW instead of killing him, he argued.

We learnt that there was a serious move by the LTTE to pacify the Indians and to establish relationship with India. We further learnt that RAW operatives who are in touch with LTTE contact person – through a RAW planted mole, who was involved in the deportation drama from India and now in the goods looks of the LTTE, to hand over a few of those cadres involved in the planning and plotting of the murder of Rajiv Gandhi to pacify the Indian critics against the Indian government led by Atal Behari Vajapayee as well as against the LTTE.

And it was revealed that one of them to be handed over was Neelan and to deny such an opportunity only he was killed.

In conclusion Varathan said that they have decided to lie low for some more time before embarking on their blitzkrieg which would decide the fate of each and everyone who dared in the offensive campaign against our group.
