மட்டு-அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களில் அரசியல் நடவடிக்கைகள் மீள ஆரம்பிப்பு.

மட்டக்களப்பு மற்றும் அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களில் தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் அரசியல்துறை நடவடிக்கைகள் மீள ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அத்துடன் மட்டக்களப்பு-அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களில் உள்ள பிரதேசங்களுக்கான அரசியல்துறைப் பொறுப்பாளர்களும் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

மட்டக்களப்பு நகர அரசியல் பொறுப்பாளராக சேனாதிராசா, அம்பாறை மாவட்ட அரசியல்துறைப் பொறுப்பாளராக குயிலின்பன், குடும்பிமலை கோட்ட அரசியல்துறைப் பொறுப்பாளராக தவன், ஆண்டான்குள அரசியல்துறைப் பொறுப்பாளராக சலீம், பட்டிருப்பு கோட்ட அரசியல்துறைப் பொறுப்பாளராக செல்வா, மாவடி முன்மாரி கோட்ட அரசியல்ப் பொறுப்பாளராக உதயராஐ; ஆகியோர் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

இது குறித்து கருத்துத் தெரிவித்த, மட்டக்களப்பு-அம்பாறை மாவட்ட அரசியல்துறைப் பொறுப்பாளர் கௌசல்யன், நேற்றுமுதல் மட்டக்களப்பு, அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களில் தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் கட்டுப்பாட்டுப் பகுதியில் உள்ள விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் அலுவலகங்கள் யாவும் இயங்க ஆரம்பித்துள்ளதாகத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இதேவேளை, கடந்த ஒன்றரை மாத காலமாக மட்டக்களப்பு-அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களில் கருணாவால் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வந்த நடவடிக்கைகள் காரணமாக விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் அரசியல் நடவடிக்கைகள் ஸ்தம்பிதமடைந்திருந்தமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

சிறிலங்கா ஆயுதப்படைகளின் ஆதிக்கத்தின் கீழ் சமூக வன்முறைகளின் முக்கிய இடமாக மாறிவரும் யாழ்ப்பாணம்....!

வின்சர் திரையரங்கிற்கு அருகிலுள்ள சாக்கடையில் அழுகிய நிலையில் சடலங்கள்.

[size=14]யாழ்ப்பானம் வின்சர் திரையரங்கின் பின்னால் உள்ள அழுக்கு நீரோடும் சாக்கடையிலிருந்து அழுகிய நிலையில் இரு சடலங்கள் மீட்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

இன்று வெள்ளிக்கிழமை பிற்பகல் பொலிசாரால் மீட்கப்பட்ட மேற்படி இரு சடலங்களில் ஒன்று வண்ணார்பண்ணையைச் சேர்ந்த நகைக்கடையாளரான நடராஐh சத்தியலிங்கம் (வயது 43) என்பவருடையது என அடையாளம் காணப்பட்டுள்ளது.

மற்றைய சடலம் இன்னமும் அடையாளம் காணப்படவில்லை. மேற்படி இரு சடலங்களும் யாழ் போதனா வைத்தியசாலையில் காலமானவர் காப்பறையில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. அடையாளம் காணப்பட்டுள்ள நடராஐh சத்தியலிங்கம் கடந்த 12ம் திகதியிலிருந்து காணாமற் போனவர் என்பது இங்கு குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

மேற்படி இரு சடலங்களிலும் வெட்டுக்காயங்கள் காணப்பட்டதாக வைத்தியசாலை வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளன. இவர்கள் இருவரும் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டு சாக்கடையில் வீசப்பட்டிருக்க வேண்டும் என பொலிசார் தெரிவித்ததாக தமிழ்நெட் இணையத்தளம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

மட்டு-அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களில் வரி அறவீடுகள் மறு அறிவித்தல் வரை இடம்பெற மாட்டாது: கௌசல்யன்

மட்டக்களப்பு-அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களில் மறு அறிவித்தல் வரை வரி அறவீடுகள் இடம்பெறமாட்டாது என மாவட்ட அரசியல்துறைப் பொறுப்பாளர் கௌசல்யன் அறிவித்துள்ளார்.

தமிழீழ தேசிய நிதிக் கொள்கைக்கு அமைவாகவே இந்த முடிவு எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாகத் தெரிவித்த கௌசல்யன், வரி அறவீடு தொடர்பாக பின்னர் உத்தியோகபூர்வமாக வர்த்தகர்களுக்கு அறியத்தரப்படும் என்றும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

மட்டக்களப்பு-அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களின் வர்த்தகர்களுடன் நேற்று இடம்பெற்ற சந்திப்பின் போதே மாவட்ட அரசியல்துறைப் பொறுப்பாளர் கௌசல்யன் இந்தத் தகவலை வெளியிட்டார்.

இந்தச் சந்திப்பில் மட்டக்களப்பு-அம்பாறை மாவட்ட வர்த்தகர்களுடன், ஊடகவியலாளர்களும் கலந்து கொண்டிருந்தமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

கருணாவின் கட்டுப்பாட்டின் கீழ் மட்டக்களப்பு-அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்கள் இருந்த காலங்களில் பாரியளவிலான நிதி மோசடிகளில் கருணா ஈடுபட்டதாக விடுதலைப் புலிகள் முன்னர் குற்றஞ்சாட்டி இருந்தமையால், இது தொடர்பான விசாரணைகள் முடியும் வரையில் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் இந்த மாவட்டங்களில் நிதி அறவீடுகளில் ஈடுபடுவதைத் தவிர்க்கிறார்கள் என்றே தாம் கருதுவதாக மாவட்ட வர்த்தகர்கள் கருத்து வெளியிட்டுள்ளனர்.

[size=14]Diaspora Tamils around the world are relieved that the Karuna affair has ended with minimal bloodshed and force say TNS correspondents from Europe and North America. There have been serious concerns within the Tamil communities around the world over this Karuna issue, but people are very relieved that it is over now, our correspondents say.

People can be heard on local radio stations and editorial columns expressing great relief and awe over the LTTE in ending it in exactly the manner they had said they would, our North American correspondent informed us. 'The overwhelming general sense is that many are glad it ended like how the LTTE said it would and they are even more awed at the efficiency and awe with which the movement ended it,' he said.

'A simple survey of local Tamil radio, television and print media will reveal how concerned the diaspora was over this [Karuna] issue and how relieved they were to hear that it has been resolved quickly and without bloodshed,' said our correspondent. He says that this reaffirms the image of the LTTE leader in the eyes of the diaspora Tamils and the international audience as a man who keeps his word and does what he says.

Our correspondent also blamed the Sri Lankan and international media for sensationalizing the issue. 'Part of the blame for all this needless and heightened anxiety in the diaspora falls on the Sinhala and international media for deliberately sensationalizing this issue with predictions of a fratricidal war in the East,' said our correspondent. 'Judging by what some of the news sources that have ulterior interests have reported, it seemed that this was an end to the Tamil liberation struggle and its Liberation movement,' he further said,

Tamils in Europe were also equally as anxious to see an end to the Batticalao situation and were greatly relieved as well, says our European correspondent. 'One lady called in from London to a live talk show hosted by the London-based IBC Tamil saying that she had not had a decent night's sleep since the Karuna affair grabbed the headlines and that she can only now, resume with her daily life with a peace of mind that the Tigers are in control,' said our European correspondent.

He said many Tamils in Europe and around the world, as well as Indian reporters, have relied on the UK-based IBC Tamil radio and the Canada-based Canadian Tamil Radio that are broadcasting over the internet as a reliable and an up-to-the-minute news source on the Batticalao issue. 'If you listen to their call-in shows you can get a good grasp of where Tamil sentiments lie and how greatly relieved and happy we[Tamils] were to hear news that the Karuna situation was brought under control,' our correspondent further said.

Commenting on what will come of the Karuna affair, our correspondent said that it will not matter to the Tamils overseas now, but Mr. Muralitharan and his one-man show will soon be forgotten.

TNA MPs, Pirapaharan discuss peace talks, ISGA

[size=16]'The Tamil people voted for you on the basis of the principles of Tamil nationalism. You should understand their feelings and work to realise their aspirations. Love for one's country comes from one's love for home, family, village and region. In this sense I encouraged love for one's region, as it is necessary to strengthen a liberation struggle. But it is dangerous when love for one's region turns into regionalist chauvinism', said Mr. Velupillai Pirapaharan, speaking to 22 MPs of the Tamil National Alliance at the LTTE's political division headquarters in Kilinochchi Tuesday.
Mr. Pirapaharan and the TNA MPs discussed ways of taking forward the stalled peace talks and negotiating the LTTE's proposal for Interim Self Governing Authority (ISGA) with the new government in Colombo.

Mr. S. P Thamilchelvan, head of the LTTE's political division, Mr. Pottu Amman, head of the LTTE's national intelligence division, Mr. E. Kousalyan, head of the LTTE's political division in Batticaloa, Col.Bhanu, commander of the Kittu Mortar Regiment, Col. Thurga and Col. Vithusha (commanders of LTTE's female fighting regiments), Mr. B. Nadesan, chief of Thamil Eelam Police Service, Mr. S. Thamizhenthi, head of the LTTE's finance division and the heads of political divisions for the Trincomalee, Vavuniya and Jaffna took part in the meeting.

'I seek your forgiveness on behalf of the people of Batticaloa for the calamities that beset our region during the forty-one days when it was held in the grip of Karuna. I urge you declare as martyrs the fighters who were killed on Karuna's side when the Liberation Tigers retook Baticaloa. Mr. Pakkiyaselvam Ariyanethiran asked Mr. Pirapaharan during the meeting.

The LTTE leader told the MP elect from Batticaloa that his request would be considered favourably as one coming from a person elected by the people.

'We do not believe that we can achieve anything by going to Parliament. We firmly believe that we can realise our aspirations only under your leadership. If our aspirations are frustrated by the southern polity again we would join you in the liberation struggle', said Mr. Sivanathan Kishore, MP elect for Vanni.

The TNA MPs had lunch with the LTTE leader after the conclusion of the meeting which commenced at 10. 30 a.m. Tuesday.

இந்நிலையில் புதிய நாடாளுமன்றம் கூடுவதற்கு முன்னரே ஜே.வி.பி.யின் அமைச்சர்களை பதவியேற்க வைக்கும் முயற்சியாக ஐனாதிபதியின் உயர்மட்டக் குழுவினர் நேற்றும் ஜே.வி.பி யுடன் பேச்சுவார்த்தைகளில் ஈடுபடடிருந்தனர்.

அன்று இருந்த நிலைப்பாட்டிலேயே இன்றும் இந்திய இருக்கின்றது: சி.எழிலன்

[size=16]இந்திய அரசுக்கு எதிராக இரண்டு அம்ச கோரிக்கையினை முன்வைத்து அன்னை பூபதி உண்ணாவிரதம் இருந்து தனது உயிரைத் தியாகம் செய்தார். அன்று இந்திய அரசு எந்த நிலைப்பாட்டில் இருந்ததோ அதே நிலைப்பாட்டில் தான் இன்றும் இந்திய அரசாங்கம் இருக்கின்றது.

வவுனியா பூந்தோட்டம் பகுதியில் நேற்று நடைபெற்ற அன்னை பூபதியின் நினைவு நாள் நிகழ்வில் கலந்துகொண்ட வவுனியா மாவட்ட அரசியல்துறைப் பொறுப்பாளர் சி.எழிலன் தொடர்ந்து உரையாற்றுகையிலேயே இவ்வாறு தெரிவித்தார்.

இன்று இந்தியா சமாதானப் பேச்சுவார்த்தைகளில் ஈடுபட வேண்டும் என்றும் மத்தியஸ்தம் வகிக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் கோரிக்கை விடுக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்தியா தனது நிலைபாட்டிலிருந்து மாறினால் தான் முடியும் தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு ஒன்றும் கொடுக்கக்கூடாது என்றும், தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திற்கு ஆதரவு கொடுக்கக்கூடாது என்ற நிலைபாட்டில் உள்ள இந்தியாவால் இது எவ்வாறு சாத்தியமாகும்.

நாங்கள் இந்தியாவை விரோதமாகப் பார்க்கவில்லை இந்தியர்களை விரோதமாக பார்க்கவில்லை இந்தியா தான் அவ்வாறு பார்க்கின்றது இந்த நிலை மாற வேண்டும். இந்தியாவுக்கு நாங்கள் நேசக்கரம் நீட்டியுள்ளோம் என்று அவர் தனதுரையில் தெரிவித்தார்.

இந்த நிகழ்வு, வவுனியா மாவட்ட தேசிய எழுச்சிப் பேரவையின் தலைவர் எஸ்.என்.ஐP.நாதன் தலைமையில் நடைபெற்றது. மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்ட தமிழரசுக் கட்சியின் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் செல்வி தங்கேஸ்வரி, வன்னி நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களான சிவசக்தி ஆனந்தன், சிவநாதன் கிஷோர் மற்றும் கட்சியின் முக்கியஸ்தர்கள் பொதுமக்கள் என பெருமளவில் கலந்துகொண்டனர்.

Sri Lanka Rebels Warn Govt Not To Use Arms Again

[size=14]COLOMBO (AP)--Tamil Tiger rebels are warning Sri Lanka's new hard-line government against resorting to a "military solution" to end the country's two-decade civil war, saying a resumption in peace talks is the only way forward.

Top rebel leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran has made it clear that the government "cannot entertain any thought of finding a military solution to the Tamil national question," the TamilNet Web site quoted guerrilla political chief S.P. Thamilselvan as saying.

"The leader has shown that it is only by talking to the Tamil people or the Tamil nation that the (government) can come to an agreement," Thamilselvan was quoted as saying by the Web site in a posting late Monday.

President Chandrika Kumaratunga's political alliance, which won the largest number of seats in the 225-member Parliament in April 2 polls, has stressed that it wants to revive the stalled peace process as soon as possible.

However, Kumaratunga - who survived a 1999 Tiger assassination attempt - has taken a more hard-line stance toward the rebels than former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who negotiated a 2002 cease-fire with the rebels but whose party was defeated in the latest elections.

The president accused him of making too many concessions in peace talks with the insurgents, which have been on hold for a year.

Since the guerrillas launched their separatist insurgency in 1983, successive governments have failed to defeat them. The rebels, who accuse the majority Sinhalese of discrimination, are notoriously fierce and ruthless fighters.

Thamilselvan's comments came as a group of Tamil lawmakers headed to the rebel-held town of Kilinochchi to hold talks with the Tiger political chief on the troubled peace process, as squabbling within the new government threatens to derail peace efforts.

The alliance has become embroiled in a dispute with a junior coalition partner that has slowed attempts to appoint a full Cabinet.

The Tamil National Alliance - a political party representing the Tiger rebels that emerged as the third biggest group in Parliament - has accused the government of dragging its feet over the peace process.

"The government should understand that if it wants a united Sri Lanka, they should move forward the peace process," Nadaraja Raviraj, a senior member the TNA, said Monday.

The first session of the new Parliament is scheduled for Thursday, and the government is expected to come under pressure about its plans for peace.

Around 65,000 people were killed in Sri Lanka's civil war, before Wickremesinghe's government signed a cease-fire accord in February 2002.

The truce was followed by several rounds of peace talks, during which the rebels gave up their demand for an independent homeland and sought broad autonomy instead, but the talks stalled in April 2003.

நடந்துமுடிந்த பொதுத் தேர்தலில் தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்புக்கு கிடைத்த வெற்றி தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்துக்கு வழங்கப்பட்ட மாபெரும் அங்கீகாரம் என்று தமிழீழத் தேசியத் தலைவர் மேதகு வே.பிரபாகரன் அவர்கள் கூறியுள்ளார்.

இதனை மேலும் வலுவடையச் செய்வதற்கு தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் உறுதியுடன் செயற்பட வேண்டுமென்றும் அவர் கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்.

தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பின் பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களை கிளிநொச்சியில் உள்ள விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் அரசியல்துறை நடுவகப் பணியகத்தில், இன்று சந்தித்து உரையாடிய போதே தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் தலைவர் இந்த விடயங்களை கூறியுள்ளார்.

Tamil Tiger leader briefs new MPs

[size=14]The Tamil Tiger leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran, has briefed 22 Tamil MPs elected earlier this month in Sri Lanka.
The briefing took place in advance of the MPs taking up their positions in parliament when it opens on Thursday.

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs have made no secret of their loyalty to the rebels.

Their success in the polls gives the Tigers a sizeable vote block in parliament for the first time.

'Self-governing authority'

Reports from rebel headquarters say that Mr Prabhakaran told the parliamentarians to pressurise the Sri Lankan government on resuming peace talks.

The Tiger leader advised them to promote the proposal of the rebels for an interim self-governing authority for the north-east of the island.

The rebel leader is also reported to have said he thought the dispute with the breakaway Tiger commander, Colonel Karuna, in the east of Sri Lanka ended faster than he had expected.

The two sides started fighting ten days ago, but Mr Prabhakaran said pressure from the parents of fighters there had helped to bring about a quick end to the dispute.

MPs who took part in the two-hour long talks with the Tiger leader said they did not discuss how to behave in parliament or which party's candidate they should back for the post of speaker when the house sits on Thursday.

They said they would wait and see whether the Buddhist monks' party will put up their candidate for speaker and then decide on the day who to back.

One MP, Ravi Raj, said he planned to use the parliament as a stage to voice Tamil nationalism.

Another, Sivanandan Kishore, said if they failed in parliament he would resign and join the rebels.

What is interesting is how seriously the Tamil Tigers seem to be taking their de facto representation in parliament.

Tuesday's meeting included not only the Tiger leader, but their intelligence chief, police chief, political wing head, district political leaders and senior military commanders.

The Tigers openly campaigned for their proxies during the election and now they are in the peculiar position of controlling the third largest party in the Sri Lankan parliament.

'No force can destroy Tamil unity'

'Our national leader has deep love for our people and land, and our people, likewise, are committed to Tamil unity and remain loyal to the national leader. The people of Batticaloa-Amparai have shown that no force can destroy Tamil unity now,' said a senior commander of the Liberation Tigers, Mr. Ramanan, speaking at the 16th year death anniversary of Annai (Mother) Poopathy, held Monday at the Navalady memorial for the late Tamil activist mother in Batticaloa town, sources said.

The event was organized by the Mothers' front. Mr. Senathirajah, the political head of the LTTE for Batticaloa town, presided.

Mr. Ramanan, himself from the Batticaloa-Amparai region who participated in the LTTE's counterattack on the renegade Karuna group recently, said that the manner in which the crisis against Tamil nationalism in Batticaloa-Amparai was handled, bringing it to a close using new strategies with minimal bloodshed, showed the commitment of the national leadership for Eastern Tamil people and their land.

The senior commander said further that the Batticaloa-Amparai district will be under the direct supervision of the LTTE leader and Tamil Eelam national policies will be followed. 'The victory for the Tamil National Alliance under the slogan 'Tamils are Tigers, Tigers are Tamils,' has shown to the international community that the LTTE is the sole representative of the Tamils,'
said Mr. Ramanan.

'he Tigers want peace,'Mr. Ramanan said. 'ut in the South, the people are vacillating between war and peace.'

Mr. Senathirajah, the Amparai district political head, Mr. Kuyilinpan, the head of the Batticaloa-Amparai martyrs' ffairs division, Mr. Thamilchelvan Mama, Secretary General of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization, Mr. Prasanna, Dr. Kannan, the Batticaloa Development Committee' President, Mr. Ganesan, the Secretary, Mr. Thiyagarajah, and Mr. Alphonse Mary Shanmugarajah (Anjaneyar) also spoke at the event.

Sri Lanka monks rebuke government over rebel split

[size=14]A political party formed by Buddhist monks criticised Sri Lanka's government on Tuesday, saying it should have exploited a split in the Tamil Tigers by supporting a breakaway rebel faction.

The Tigers regained control of the region held by an eastern commander known as Karuna earlier this month, but the government was at pains to steer clear of the infighting for fear of disrupting the island's two-year truce.

"This is a great betrayal of the nation. There was a great opportunity to crush the murderous LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam)," Omalpe Sobitha, the deputy leader of the National Heritage Party, told a news conference, speaking in Sinhalese.

The monks won nine seats in the 225-seat parliament in Sri Lanka's April 2 election after campaigning for the first time as a single political force on a platform to protect the majority Sinhalese, who are mostly Buddhist.

They say the foremost place for Sinhalese must be preserved in any peace settlement to end the island's 20-year civil war with the predominantly Hindu Tigers, who have been fighting for a separate state for the minority Tamil community.

Despite the criticism, the monks have said they would support the newly elected United People's Freedom Alliance -- which is seven seats short of a majority -- on an issue-by-issue basis, but have declined to join the ruling coalition.

Surrounded by fellow saffron-robed parliamentarians and speaking to reporters seated barefoot and cross-legged in keeping with Buddhist practice, Omalpe said the government's failure to intervene was a "missed opportunity".

The Freedom Alliance takes a tougher approach to the Tigers than the government of former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, and when Karuna broke from the Tigers, hardliners pressed for the opportunity to be used to weaken the rebels.

But that would almost certainly have invited the wrath of the Tigers and wrecked the ceasefire that is thought to have given the island its best chance to end the war that has killed 64,000.

The Tigers have installed new leaders in the east since vanquishing the breakaway group in the four-day offensive and said their strength shows the government cannot afford a military solution to the conflict.

"The leader has put a stop to the idea that GOSL (the government of Sri Lanka) can suppress and destroy the Tamil people," the rebels' political wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan said on the pro-rebel Tamilnet Web site.

"The leader has shown that it is only by talking to the Tamil people... that the GOSL can come to an agreement," he said.

The Tigers' reclusive leader Velupillai Prabhakaran held a rare meeting with parliamentarians from the rebel-backed Tamil National Alliance on Tuesday, underscoring their weight behind the party ahead of the first session on parliament on Thursday.

The TNA won 22 seats in the April 2 poll, up from 15 in the last election, running for the first time with the explicit backing of the Tigers.

I went to jail to uphold principles, says Vaiko

[size=14]MDMK general secretary Vaiko today launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for making charges against him continuously during her campaign and said 'she was uttering nothing but falsehood.'

Speaking to reporters at the MDMK headquarters, Thayagam, here, Vaiko, taking exception to the Chief Minister's poser on what he had done for Tamilnadu, said he was imprisoned several times on people's issues.

'The Chief Minister has been stating that I was taken to prison for supporting the LTTE. Of the 24 instances of imprisonment, I went to jail twice for speaking in support of Eelam Tamil which was part of Dravidian movement'. 'The Chief Minister does not know the history of Tamilnadu. She does not know about the Dravidian movement. She does not respect others. She speaks dialogues which are written by someone and given to her,' he remarked.
Except for the two times he was imprisoned for Tamil Eelam's cause, the rest of the jail sentences were for agitating over people's issues like price hike and farmers' cause, he argued.
'I was in jail for standing up for certain principles, whereas Jayalalithaa went to jail for corruption charges and misuse of power,' he said.

He refuted the Chief Minister's claim that she was instrumental in the release of Malaysian Tamils from police custody in that country.

Her claim that she was the saviour of suferring Tamils abroad was a 'fraudulent claim'.

He said that it was his letters to the Prime Minister and External Affairs Ministry which led to their release. This was also acknowledged by the released prisoners.

The people should not believe the claim of the Chief Minister on free power to farmers and warned that even the present facility offered including the free power supply to hutments would be cut.

Vaiko said that Jayalalithaa's role in politics would slowly fade away and pointed that a wave opposing the AIADMK-BJP combine was growing in Tamilnadu.

Commenting on the Prime Minister Vajpayee's speech in the last 10 days, Vaiko said it clearly showed that Vajpayee was under tremendous 'mental pressure' and 'frustration'. Vajpayee's statement on succession and coalition politics made it obvious that hardliners of the BJP and Sang Parivar had grown within the party.

However, he said Vajpayee continued to remain a 'noble man'. He expressed shock over the BJP partymen justifying with Tandon distributing sarees in Lucknow.

On the State government pursuing POTA case, Vaiko said if necessary lawyers would consult noted jurist Fali Nariman.

Vaiko said his party would never again align with the BJP and said that the party had taken the decision after consultations.

On Sri Lankan issue, he said that rise of Col Karuna, the rebel LTTE commander, was engineered by Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga.

The Buddhist monks and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the rightist Sinhala Party which spread racial hatred, were behind propping up Karuna. The JVP never supported giving even basic rights to Tamils in Sri Lanka, he said.

Tigers administration back in action in the East

The tiger police stations and courts which had been closed down on the orders of Karuna Amman have been re-opened say reports from the East.

According to security sources the levying of various taxes which had been halted in Batticaloa District on orders of Karuna Amman has recommenced.

With the disengagement of Karuna from Prabhakaran's command the tiger courts and tiger police stations were closed down and taxation was halted. The new situation is abhorred by the people in the area and the tiger organization will have to use extra force to keep the disgruntled masses under control say sources.

UNP seeks JHU support to elect speaker

Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe, leader of the UNP has requested the Bhikkus of Jathike Hela Urumaya to support candidate from his party at the election of the speaker scheduled to take place on the first session of the 13th Parliament on the 22nd.

This request has been made by the leader of the UNP when he met the Bhikkus of JHU last night in Colombo.

Mr. Wickremasinghe has promised a great deal of privileges to the Bhikkus of JHU if they support the UNP in the election of the speaker.

JHU is to give a decision on the request made by the UNP leader within the next two days. There were various rumours circulating during the election campaign that JHU election campaign had been funded by the UNP.

ஆனால், சிறீலங்காவே கருணாவை மறைத்து வைத்திருக்கிறது என்ற உண்மை வெளிவரும் நிலையில் அது சிறீலங்கா-புலிகள் சமாதான முயற்சிகளில் பெரும் தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படும் நிலை காணப்படுவதால், கருணா எங்கோ மறைந்து இருப்பதாகக் காட்டவே அரசு செய்தி நிறுவனங்களினூடாக முயற்சித்து வருகிறது எனவும் ஊகம் தெரிவித்தார்.

இதனொரு கட்டமாகவே கருணா தனக்கு நெருங்கிய சுமார் 100 தளபதிகளின் பாதுகாப்பில் இருப்பதாக செய்தியை வெளியிடும் வகையிலான நிர்ப்பந்தங்களை கருணா சம்பந்தப்பட்டோருக்கு சிறீலங்கா வழங்கி வருவதாகவும், கருணாவிற்குத் தொலைபேசி வசதிகளை ஏற்படுத்தி குறிப்பிட்ட சிலருக்கு இலக்கங்களை வழங்கி வருவதாகவும் தெரிவித்தார்.

ஆனால், கருணாவுடன் கிழக்கை விட்டு வெளியேறிச் சென்றவர்களில் ஏழு பேரைத் தவிர மிகுதியானவர்கள் விடுதலைப்புலிகளிடமே திரும்பி, தாங்கள் சிறீலங்கா இராணுவப் பாதுகாப்பிலேயே தப்பிச் சென்றோம் என்ற தகவலையும், யார் யார் இதில் நேரடியாக சிறீலங்காவின் சார்பில் பங்குபற்றினர் என்ற தகவலையும் தெரிவித்து நிற்கும் இந்த நேரத்தில் கருணாவும், அவரது ஏழு சகாக்களும் தங்களின் பாதுகாப்பில் இல்லையென்பதைக் காட்ட முனையும் சிறீலங்கா அரசின் இவ்வாறான செயற்பாடுகள் நகைப்பிற்கிடமான முடிவுகளையே இறுதியில் தரும் என்பதை உறுதியாக நம்பலாம் எனவும் அவர் மேலும் தெரிவித்தார்.

அத்தோடு கருணா தங்களின் பாதுகாப்பில் உள்ளார் என்பது அறியப்பட்டு, அது தங்களிற்குச் சிக்கல்கள் ஏற்படும் பட்சத்தில் கருணாவையும் அவரது சகாக்களையும் கொலை செய்வது கூட சிறீலங்கா இதிலிருந்து தப்புவதற்கான வழியாகக் கூட அமைந்தாலும் அமையலாம் என்றும் கருத்துத் தெரிவித்தார்.

கருணா தங்களிடம் இல்லையென்பதைக் காட்டுவதற்கான நடவடிக்கையிலும், கருணா தோற்று ஓடவில்லை என்பது போன்ற செய்திகளைப் பரப்பும் நடவடிக்கையிலும் தமிழ்த் தேசியத்திற்கு எதிரான கருத்துக்களைப் பரப்பும் பத்திரிகையாளர்களையே சிறீலங்கா அரசு பயன்படுத்தி வருகிறது என்பதை தற்போது வெளிப்படையாகக் காணக்கூடியதாகவுள்ளது எனவும்,

கருணாவின் மீதான நடவடிக்கையானது பத்திரிகையாளர்கள் என்ற பெயரில் சிறீலங்கா அரசின் செய்திகளைப் பரப்பும் பலரையும் வதந்திகளையும், கற்பனைகளையும் செய்தியாக்க நிர்ப்பந்தித்துள்ளது எனவும், இவர்கள் வெளியிடும் செய்திகளின் தன்மை பற்றிய சந்தேகங்களை சமாதானத்தில் அக்கறையுடைய சில இராஐதந்திரிகள் கொண்டிருப்பதை தன்னால் உணரக்கூடியதாகவுள்ளதாகத் தெரிவித்த மேற்படி ஆய்வாளர், இவ்வாறான பத்திரிகையாளர்களின் செய்திகளைப் பிரதானப்படுத்தி சிறீலங்காவின் முக்கிய ஊடகங்கள் வெளியிட்டு வருவதாகவும் மேலும் தெரிவித்தார்.

Cabinet struggle for Kumaratunga

Kumaratunga's allies are unhappy with their cabinet posts.

Sri Lanka's president is battling to shore up her new coalition government ahead of a key parliamentary vote scheduled for Thursday.
Chandrika Kumaratunga is struggling to resolve power-sharing issues with her junior coalition partner, the People's Liberation Front (JVP).

Parliament meets on Thursday to decide the key position of speaker.

Mrs Kumaratunga's coalition won 105 of the 225 parliamentary seats in the general election on 2 April.

The JVP, former leftist revolutionaries, holds 39 of the alliance's seats and is insisting on more power than Mrs Kumaratunga has offered.

Boycott

The president had expected the JVP to accept four cabinet portfolios but is reluctant to include the key post of river basin development.

We have still not reached an agreement. But efforts are being made to resolve the matter soon

The JVP wants the post to gain influence over the farmer vote in central Sri Lanka.

"We expected the issue to be resolved by Monday, but so far the negotiations remain deadlocked," a source close to the president told the AFP news agency.

"But the president is still very hopeful that it can be resolved."

The JVP says Mrs Kumaratunga promised it river basin development but reneged on the pledge.

It then boycotted a ceremony on 10 April inaugurating the new cabinet and has not taken up its four ministries.

The crisis comes ahead of Thursday's crucial vote for parliamentary speaker.

Mrs Kumaratunga's favoured candidate is Dew Gunesekera but the main opposition United National Party is expected to field its own candidate.

With the president's alliance eight seats short of a majority it will need support from minority factions such as the Tamils or Buddhists.

The Buddhists are now threatening to abstain, increasing the chances an opposition speaker will be elected.

The BBC's Frances Harrison in Colombo says that would mean Mrs Kumaratunga's rivals would control the agenda of business in parliament, delaying legislation and other political reforms she has promised.

She says it would not bode well for the stability of the new government if it could not elect its own speaker.
