தமிழலை நிழற்பதிப்பு தனது மின்னஞ்சல் முகவரியை வழங்கி ஒரு நாள் பூர்த்தியாக முன்னரே 106 மின்னஞ்சல்கள் எமக்குக் கிடைத்தன. இவற்றில் 105 மின்னஞ்சல்கள் தமிழலையின் நிழற்பதிப்பை வரவேற்பனவாக இருந்தன. பலரும் பலவிதமான ஆதங்கங்களை வெளியிட்டிருந்தனர். உண்மையில் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் தனித்தனிய எமது கைபட பதில் எழுத வேண்டும் என்று விரும்புகிறோம். ஆனால் அதற்குரிய வாய்ப்பு இப்போது எமக்கில்லை. ஒவ்வொன்றையும் வாசித்தோம். விரைவில் எங்களுக்கு வாய்ப்பு வரும்போது உங்கள் உணர்வுகளுக்கு தனிப்பட்ட ரீதியில் நன்றி செலுத்துவோம்.
பலர் நாம் கருணா அம்மான் என்று மரியாதைத் தொனியில் இன்னும் அழைப்பதாகவும் விசனம் தெரிவித்திருந்தார்கள்.

எமது பாதுகாப்பு பற்றியும் பலர் கவலையடைந்திருந்தனர்.

உண்மை கொல்லப்படும்போது அதற்காகக் குரல் கொடுப்பது எமது பாதுகாப்பை விடவும் முக்கியமானது. இந்த முடிவோடு தான் நிழற்பதிப்பு என்று பெயரிட்டோம். நிழலாய்த் தொடர்வோம்!

யாழ்ப்பாணப் பின்னணியைக் கொண்டவர்கள் என்று கூறிப் பல குடும்பங்களைக் கலைத்துச் சூறையாடியபோது நடந்த அவலங்கள் சொல்லில் அடங்கா. இது கண்டு எமது மக்கள் விக்கித்து நிற்கிறார்கள். இந்த அவலங்களை வரிக்கு வரியாக விபரித்து எழுதுவதில்லை என்று நாம் நேற்று முடிவெடுத்தோம். எமது நாட்குறிப்புகளில் இவற்றைக் குறித்துக்கொள்கிறோம். ஏனென்றால் அந்த அவலங்களை விலாவாரியாக விபரிப்பதன் மூலம் எமது இனத்திற்கிடையே பிளவுகள் ஏற்படுவதற்கு நாமும் எம்மை அறியாமல் துணைபோய்விடக்கூடாது. இதைத்தானே இந்த முறைதவறிய கூட்டமும் சிங்கள புலனாய்வுத் துறையும் விரும்புகிறது.

இன்டர்நெட் கபேக்களில் வெருட்டல் விடுவதால் எமது செயற்பாட்டை நிறுத்திவிடலாம் என்று கருணா குழுவினர் கனவு காண்கிறார்கள். தாங்கள் நினைத்தால் இன்டர்நெட்டையே மூடிவிடுவார்களாம்! யாருக்குப் பூச்சாண்டி காட்டுகிறார்கள்! இரண்டு வருடங்களுக்குள் இயக்கத்தில் சேர்ந்து நேற்றுத் திடீர்ப் பொறுப்பாளராக மாறிய ஒருவரின் வெருட்டல் இது. உண்மையான போராட்டத்தில் நின்று அறியாத இவருக்கு போராட்ட மரபு எங்கே தெரியப்போகிறது.

இவர்களின் துப்பாக்கிகளில் இருந்து வெளிவரும் தோட்டாக்களை விடவும் எமது எழுத்துக்கள் பலம் வாய்ந்தவை என்பதை இவர்கள் அறியார்.

உணர்ச்சிவசப்பட்டு அறிவு நிலை தவறி மாபெரும் தவறுகளை இழைக்கும் கூட்டத்தின் அடாவடித்தனங்கள் பல.

ஒரு சிறிய உள்ளூர் வீட்டுமுகாம் ஒன்றின் கதவில் அம்மானுக்கு விசர் நாய் கடித்துவிட்டது என்று கிறுக்கப்பட்டிருந்ததைக்கண்ட இன்னும் ஒரு திடீர் பொறுப்பாளர் அந்த வீட்டில் இருந்த இருபதுக்கு மேற்பட்ட இளைய போராளிகளை வீட்டு வாசலில் ஒன்று திரட்டி நாய்கள் குலைப்பது போல் குரல் கிழியும் வரை குரைக்கவேண்டும் என்று ஒரு புதுவிதமான தண்டனையை வழங்கியிருக்கிறார்.

கதைக்க முடியாத நிலையில் அங்கிருந்து தப்பிச் சென்ற இளம் போராளி ஒருவன் சொன்ன வார்த்தைகள் எம்மைச் சிந்திக்கவைத்தன. அண்ணே, நான் குரைத்தபோது தான் வாழ்க்கையில் முதல் முதலாகச் சிந்திக்கத்தொடங்கினேன்!

இனி, போகிற வழிச் சுவர்களில் எல்லாம் எழுதித் தான் போவானாம்!

இவை போன்ற பல சம்பவங்கள்! எல்லாவற்றையும் இணையத்தில் எழுதுவதை விட எமது நாட்குறிப்புகளிலே குறித்துக்கொள்கிறோம்.

இவற்றையெல்லாம் எழுதுவதற்காக உண்மையில் நாம் வெட்கப்படுகிறோம்!

எம் இனிய தேனாட்டு மக்களே! எமது விடுதலைப்போராட்டம் பலவிதமான எதிரிப்படைகளைச் சந்தித்திருக்கிறது. நாம் கண்ட படைகளின் விதங்களோ பல. இப்போது நாம் இங்கே சந்தித்துவருவதும் இதுபோன்ற ஒரு படையை உருவாக்க முயலும் கூட்டத்தைத் தான்! </span>

The primary motivating factor of those applauding the split within the LTTE induced by Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan or Karuna having asserted his independence of the Tiger's Wanni-based leadership is the hope that the rebel would join or strengthen the ranks of those fighting Tamil nationalism in Sri Lanka.

They hope that this move, hopefully supported by forces loyal to Karuna, would disrupt the military balance achieved between the government and the LTTE after the fall of the Elephant Pass base. It was this parity in military prowess, which has translated into political benefit with the signing of the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) between the government and the Tigers in February 2002 that has remained the foundation of all political, diplomatic and military developments since.

They also hope that the persistence in the standoff between Karuna and the Wanni leadership would result in the progressive weakening of the LTTE leading to a situation that will undermine the bases of the CFA and thereby create an environment that will permit the severe crippling or annihilation of the Tigers.

It will be in the interests of the LTTE therefore, to exploit all the resources in its command to neutralise the factors that could lead to the undermining of the military balance. An examination of the situation developing at present shows there are a number of factors in the military, diplomatic, political and public spheres that could help retain this balance with each set of factors dependent on the other.</span>

யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் கடமையாற்றும் நான்கு அல்லது ஐந்து வெளிநாட்டு கண்காணிப்பாளர்கள், இடையிடையே வந்து அடிப்படை மனித உரிமைகள் பற்றிப் பேசிவிட்டுச் செல்வார்களே தவிர, அவர்களுக்கு அங்கு நடைபெறும் எந்த ஒரு பிரச்சனையும் விளங்குவதில்லை என்றும் அவர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

யாழ். மக்களின் வாக்குரிமை இன்னும் சரியான முறையில் வழங்கப்படவில்லை. இம்முறை அவர்கள் வாக்குகளை அளித்தாலும், அங்கு என்ன நடக்கிறது, யார் வேட்பாளர்கள், தேர்தல் நடைமுறை என்ன போன்ற எந்த விடயங்களும் தெரியாமல், கிணற்றுத் தவளைகள் போல், முட்டாள்களாகவே இம்முறை அவர்கள் வாக்களிக்கப் போகிறார்கள். தாங்கள் அளிக்கும் வாக்குகள் பற்றிய விபரங்கள் கூட அவர்களுக்குத் தெரியாது.

வாக்களிப்பது உட்பட, அடிப்படை மனித உரிமைகளுக்குக் கீழே நிறைய விடயம் இருக்கிறது. இதை யாழ். மக்கள் விளங்கிக் கொள்ளவில்லை. வன்னியில் கட்டுப்பாடற்ற பிரதேசத்தில் வாழும் மக்களின் நிலையும் இதுதான். அவர்களுக்கு யார்யார் எந்தக் கட்சியில் கேட்கிறார்கள் என்றுகூடத் தெரியாது. இதுவெல்லாம் தேர்தலா? இந்தத் தேர்தல் செல்லுபடியானதல்ல என்றும் அவர் காரசாரமாக விமர்சித்துள்ளார் என்று தெரியவருகிறது. </span>

பின்னர் ஐக்கிய தேசியக் கட்சியினால் இலங்கையின் பாதுகாப்பிற்கு அச்சுறுத்தல் ஏற்பட்டிருப்பதாகக் கூறி ஐக்கிய தேசியக் கட்சியிடமிருந்த படைத்துறை அமைச்சை பறித்தெடுத்தையும் சுட்டிக்காட்டியுள்ள இந்த ஆங்கிலப் பத்திரிகை, விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் மணிராசன்குளம் முகாமை அகற்றுவது தொடர்பில் ஐனாபதி இன்று மௌனம் சாதிப்பது ஏன்? எனக் கேள்வியெழுப்பியுள்ளது.

பல ஆண்டுகளின் பின்னர் வன்னி மக்கள் சிறீலங்காப் பாராளுமன்றத் தேர்தலில் சர்வதேசத்திற்கு தமிழ் மக்களின் அரசியல் பலத்தைக் காட்டும் முகமாக வாக்களிப்பதற்காக புளியங்குளத்துக்கு வரத் தொடங்கியுள்ளனர்....இதுவரை முல்லைத்தீவு மாவட்டத்தில் இருந்து சுமார் 20 ஆயிரம் வாக்காளர்கள் புலிகளின் வவுனியா நோக்கிய புளியங்குளத்தில் உள்ள இடைத்தங்கல் முகாமிற்கு வந்து சேர்ந்துள்ளனர்....!

முல்லைத்தீவு பிரதேச மக்கள், புளியங்குளத்திலிருந்து 10 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ள ஓமந்தையில் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள வாக்களிப்பு நிலையத்தில் தங்கள் வாக்குகளை வழங்குவதற்காக, புளியங்குளம் நோக்கிப் பெருந்திரளாக வந்து குவிந்தவண்ணமுள்ளனர்.

இதுவரை 20,000ற்கும் மேற்பட்ட மக்கள் புளியங்குளம் வந்தடைந்துள்ளதாக வவுனியா பிரதேச அரசியற் பொறுப்பாளர் எஸ்.எழிலன் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

20 வருடங்களுக்குப் பின்னர் முதல் தடைவையாக வாக்களிக்கப் போகும் இம்மக்களுக்கு அனைத்து ஒழுங்குகளும் செய்துகொடுக்கப்படும் என்று உறுதி வழங்கப்பட்டிருந்தாலும், இராணுவமும் பொலிசும் பாதுகாப்பு வழங்குவதைத் தவிர, ஏனைய வசதிகள் எதுவும் சரியாகக் கவனிக்கப்படாத நிலையில், மக்கள் கடும் சிரமங்களுக்கிடையேயே தங்கள் வாக்குகளை வழங்க தொலைதூரம் பயணித்து வந்துள்ளதாக எழிலன் மேலும் தெரிவித்தார்.

மொத்தம் 80,000 மக்கள் அப்பகுதிகளிலிருந்து வந்து வாக்களிக்கும் தேவையிருப்பதால், ஏராளமான விடுதலைப் புலி அமைப்பினர் ஆயுதங்களின்றி சமூகப் பணிகளிலும், உதவி ஒத்தாசைகளை வழங்குவதுடன், உணவு, தங்குமிட வசதிகளைக் கண்காணிப்பதிலும் ஈடுபட்டு வருகிறார்கள்.

இந்தத் தேர்தல் எமது நாட்டுக்கு நிரந்தர அமைதியும் சமாதானமும் கொண்டுவருமென தாங்கள் நம்புவதாக, புளியங்குளம் வந்தடைந்துள்ள வாக்காளர்கள் கருத்துக் கூறியுள்ளார்கள். </span>

Voters in LTTE-held Vanni arrive in Puliyankulam

Twenty thousand voters in remote areas in the Mullaithivu district have been brought to the Liberation Tigers' checkpoint in Puliyankulam until Thursday evening for voting in the general elections on Friday at the clustered polling stations in Omanthai, about 10 k.m. south of Puliyankulam, said Mr. S. Elilan, the political head of the LTTE in Vavuniya.
Mr. Elilan said that though it was the responsibility of the Elections Department to provide transportation and other arrangements for the voters, as a result of shortage of personnel, the LTTE is cooperating by assisting in providing transportation and temporary accommodation to the voters in LTTE-held areas.

Although Sri Lankan Army, police and civil officials have given an assurance that all arrangements have been made for the voters in LTTE-held Vanni to vote without any hindrance, everything would depend on the actual implementation of the plans, said Mr. Elilan, adding that it was the wish of the LTTE that these voters, who have not been able to vote for 20 years, should get the chance to vote now.

Altogether there are nearly 80,000 voters in LTTE-held Vanni and Mr. Elian said that he expected nearly all of them to arrive at Puliyankualm and Omanthai during Thursday night and Friday.

Some of the voters who have arrived in Puliyankulam told TamilNet that they are happy to vote after 20 years and that they want to express their Tamil national consciousness and unity through the election. We hope that the election would result in extending the current ceasefire and the peaceful environment, and lead to a resumption of talks and a permanent solution to the Tamil people's problems, they said.

Meanwhile, elections department officials in Vavuniya said Thursday evening that all arrangements have been completed for the elections, and that ballot boxes, papers, police personnel and officials have been dispatched to the 208 polling stations of the Vanni district for the elections on Friday. In addition, private and state buses have been sent to the LTTE-held Vanni region for transporting voters, the officials said.

COLOMBO (AP)--Sri Lankan soldiers escorted at least three Tamil Tiger rebels to Colombo ahead of a trip Friday to Switzerland, a senior government official said.

The three - a Tiger official known as Karikalan and at least two others - are expected to attend a protest later this month in Geneva seeking equal rights for minorities outside a meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Commission, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Though still seen as terrorists by much of the world, the Tigers have become regular international travelers since a cease-fire went into effect two years ago. They are often escorted by government officials and the Sri Lankan military.

Karikalan defected from the main rebel movement after a split last month between the northern and eastern branches of the movement, though he later re-joined the Tigers' main wing.

The Tigers had been fighting a 19-year war with the Sri Lankan government, claiming discrimination against minority Tamils by the Sinhalese majority. The conflict killed nearly 65,000 people before the Norway-brokered cease-fire was signed in February 2002.

Sri Lanka goes to the polls Friday, overshadowed by violence and tensions connected to the Tiger split.

வவுனியா ஓமந்தைப் பகுதியில் தேர்தல் திருவிழா

வன்னித் தேர்தல் தொகுதியில் வாக்களிப்பு எதுவித பிரச்சனைகளும் இன்றி அமைதியான முறையில் நடைபெற்று வருவதாக எமது செய்தியாளர் தெரிவிக்கின்றார்.

இராணுவக் கட்டுபாடற்ற பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த வாக்காளர்கள் புளியங்குளத்திலிருந்து வாகனங்களில் ஏற்றி வரப்பட்டு வாக்களிக்க அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டனர்.

பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கில் திரண்டுவந்த வாக்காளர்கள் முண்டியத்துக்கொண்டு வாக்குகளைப் போட்டனர். சர்வதேச கண்காணிப்பாளர்கள் பெருமளவில் ஆஐராகி இருந்தனர்.

இராணுவத்தினர் எதுவித கெடுபிடிகளையும் மேற்கொள்ளவில்லை. பொலிசார், இராணுவச் சோதனை சாவடியிலிருந்து பேரூந்துகளில் வாக்காளர்களுடன் இணைந்து வந்து தடைகளினை நீக்கி வாக்களிக்க அனுமதித்தனர். எனினும் சில இடங்களில் வாக்களிக்கும் போது பொலிசார் வாக்களித்ததை பார்த்துக்கொண்டே இருந்தனர்.

ஓமந்தைப் பகுதியில் ஈ.பி.டி.பி. யினர் தமது வேட்பாளர்களின் விபரம் அடங்கிய துண்டுப்பிரசுரத்தினை வழங்கினார்கள் என்று கண்கானிப்புப் பணிகளில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த பவ்ரல் அமைப்பினர் தெரிவித்தனர். அத்துடன் ஈ.பி.டி.பி. யின் உறுப்பினர்கள் வாக்களிக்க வந்தவர்களில் பெரும்பாலானவர்கள் கள்ள வாக்கு போட வந்துள்ளனர் என்று எல்லோரிடமும் தெரிவித்தனர்.

எனினும், அவர்கள் தகுந்த சான்றிதழ்களுடன் வந்திருப்பதாக சிரேஷ்ட அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்தனர். வவுனியா அரச அதிபரிடம் இது தொடர்பாக கேட்டபோது இதுவரை எந்தவிதமா பிரச்சனைகளும் இன்றி தேர்தல் மிகவும் நேர்த்தியாக நடைபெறுவதாக தெரிவித்தார்.

இது இவ்வாறிருக்க வாக்களிக்க வாக்களிக்க வந்தவர்களில் இருவர், புளியங்குளம் பகுதியில் ஏற்பட்ட வீதி விபத்தில் காயம் அடைந்துள்ளனர்.

இவர்கள் உடனடியாக வவுனியா பொது மருத்துவமனைக்கு கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டனர். புளியங்குளம் பகுதியிலும், ஓமந்தைப் பகுதியிலும் திருவிழா போன்று மக்கள் கூட்டம் நிறைந்து காணப்பட்டனர்.

திருகோணமலை மாவட்டத்தில் வாக்களிப்பு அமைதியான முறையில் இடம்பெற்று வருவதாக திருகோணமலை பிரிவுக்கு பொறுப்பான பொலிஸ் அத்தியட்சகர் தயா சமரவீர தெரிவித்தார்.

மாவட்டத்தின் தேர்தல் கடமைகளுக்கு என சுமார் 3,000 பொலிசார் கடமையில் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டதாகவும், அவர் மேலும் கூறினார்.

சகல வாக்களிப்பு நிலையங்களுக்கும் பொலிஸ் பாதுகாப்பு வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாகவும், பொலிஸ் அத்தியட்சகர் தயா சமரவீர மேலும் தெரிவித்தார்.

இதேவேளை மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டத்திலும் வாக்களிப்பு சுமூகமான முறையில் இடம்பெற்று வருவதாக சிரேஷ்ட பொலிஸ் அத்தியட்சகர் அலுவலகம் தெரிவிக்கின்றது.

இம் மாவட்டத்தின் பாதுகாப்பு கடமைகளுக்கு என சுமார் 2,000 பொலிசார் கடமையில் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

வாக்குச் சாவடிகளின் தேவைக்கு ஏற்ப பொலிசார் அங்கு கடமையில் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளதாக சிரேஷ்ட பொலிஸ் அத்தியட்சகர் அலுவலகம் மேலும் தெரிவிக்கின்றது.

Brisk polling is reported in Muslim areas such as Kattankudy, Oddamavadi and Eravur in Batticaloa district and low polling in Tamil areas till one p.m. Friday, Batticaloa District Returning Officer Mr.S.Punnyamoorthy said
Polling in clustered polling stations that are located at Vavunatheivu for the uncleared voters has been considerable low. Some voters who came to Vavunatheivu clustered polling stations were not allowed to cast their voters as they failed to produce their polling cards to election officials, election department sources said.

About eighty percent polling has been reported in some polling stations located in Muslim areas, election sources said.

Batticaloa District Assistant Commissioner of Elections Mr.T.Krishanandalingam said he has sent new ballot box to a polling station located in Kattankudy area on receipt of information the available ballot box had been full with votes.

Meanwhile monitors of the European Union Election Observation Mission and PAFFREL visited several polling stations including clustered ones located in Vavunativu for uncleared areas voters in Batticaloa district, sources said.

Jaffna reports high turnout, Erlalai booths closed early

Civil society sources in Jaffna said that there was high voter turnout in Chunnakam and Mallakam area. However, reports from Erlalai said that the booths at Erlalai Saiva Shanmarga Vidiyalayam were suddenly closed around 3.55pm and the gates were locked preventing further voting. Further details are not known.
There are nine seats to be won in Jaffna.

Total number of seats for the whole of Sri Lanka is 196, and together with 29 National list candidates, there are 225 seats to be won in today's elections.

The General Election, the 13th in Sri Lankan Parliamentary history, will begin at 7 am in 10,670 polling booths in 22 districts across Sri Lanka.

Polling will end at 4 pm. Nearly 12,890,000 voters are eligible to participate in this year's poll, among them 400,000 are new voters.

According to Department of Elections website, results of the postal voting, which took place on March 24 and 25, are expected to be announced later tonight. Full district-wise results and the composition of Parliament will be known by tomorrow afternoon.

High polling in clustered booths for Killinochchi voters

High polling was recorded in the clustered polling stations located in the Muhamalai area for voters residing in the LTTE controlled Killinochchi district and villages in the Vadamaradchchi east division in the Jaffna district. Around noon, sixty percent of the voters have voted in the sixty two polling stations, 30 for Killinochchi district voters and 32 for Vadamaradchchi east division voters in the LTTE held areas, election department sources said.
About 60,600 registered voters in the LTTE held Killinochchi district and Vadamaradchchi east division in the Jaffna district are eligible for exercise their franchise, sources said

The districts of Killinochchi and Jaffna form the Jaffna electoral district, sources said.

In some polling stations election agents of the paramilitary group Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) raised objections when voters went there to cast their votes, which resulted in the arguments between the EPDPers and election officials.

Later EPDP polling agents withdrew from those polling stations, sources in Muhamalai said.

In the other parts of the Jaffna electoral district under the government-controlled areas more than fifty percent of voters completed their voting by two p.m., election department sources said.</span>
