கொழும்பில் கடந்த வெள்ளிக்கிழமை மகேஸ்வரன் மீது மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டின் பின்னணியில் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் இருப்பதாக சந்தேகிப்பதில் அர்த்தமில்லை எனத் தெரிவித்துள்ள பிரதி பொலிஸ் மா அதிபர் சிறிசேன ஹேரத், விடுதலைப் புலிகளினால் நடாத்தப்படும் கொலை முயற்சிகள் நன்கு திட்டமிட்ட முறையில் இதுவரை வெற்றிகரமாகவே நடாத்தி முடிக்கப்பட்டு வந்தமை இதனை உறுதிப்படுத்துவதாகவும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இதன்மூலம் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் அல்லாத வேறு ஒரு சக்தியே மகேஸ்வரன் மீதான கொலை முயற்சியின் பின்னணியில் இருப்பதை தாம் உறுதியாக நம்புவதாகவும் சிறிசேன ஹேரத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

அத்துடன், இச்சம்பவம் கொழும்பில் போட்டியிடும் தமிழ் வாக்காளர்களிடையேயான தேர்தல் போட்டியின் காரணமாகவே நிகழ்ந்துள்ளதாக தெரிவித்துள்ள பிரதி பொலிஸ் மா அதிபர், இதுவரை 25க்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்களிடம் இதுதொடர்பான விசாரணைகளை மேற்கொண்டுள்ளதாகவும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். </span>

வழக்கின்போதும், குறிப்பிட்ட கால இடைவெளிக்கிடையிலும், நீதிமன்றத்தில் ஆஐராகி கைச்சாத்திடுமாறு பணிக்கப்பட்டே, பிணை வழங்கப்பட்டது.

Thugs with the small group under the renegade Karuna forced thousands of Tamil civilians with even a remote relation to Jaffna out from the Batticaloa area yesterday, say civilian sources that left Batticaloa last night. Thugs seized all properties and possessions including house keys and permitted the civilians to take only 500 Rs with them, say sources that left the Batticaloa region.

The campaign to force out the Tamils of Jaffna relation from the area began around noon yesterday sources said. Many people that were uprooted were born in Batticaloa and probably had a one parent or grandparent from Jaffna, sources told TNS. Those who took time or left later in the evening were assaulted as they on their way out, according to several civilians.

TNA lead candidate Joseph Pararajasingham was separately targeted by the Karuna's thugs, sources in Batticaloa said. They said Karuna's henchmen had asked the politician evacuate Batticaloa with his family and supporters immediately, sources further said.

Karuna's thugs had also asked families of LTTE members that had earlier abandoned him to leave the Batticaloa region as well, the sources further said

Reports reaching TNS indicate that a chaotic and tense situation now prevails across Batticaloa. There have also been unconfirmed reports that Sri Lankan intelligence and security apparatus also joined Karuna's henchmen in chasing out the Tamils from Batticaloa.

Many of the traders that left the region resided in areas under the control of the Sri Lankan security forces. Police and Security forces in Batticaloa stood by idly as the thugs roamed around the town announcing on loudspeakers ordering persons of northern origin to leave before 12 midnight Tuesday or face the consequences.

Sources told TNS that this had happened in full view of the Sri Lankan security apparatus and that Sri Lankan security did not make a single effort to stop the thugs. There are also unconfirmed reports that Sri Lankan Military Intelligence chief had authorized Karuna's thugs to carry weapons into the government controlled areas.

Civil sources in Batticaloa told TNS, the situation in the region resembles the early stages of the 1983 genocide against the Tamils. Initially, only Tamil business were targeted, then the situation systematically turned towards the civilian population and the genocide continued, they further said. </span>

Karuna Says No threat to Jaffna Tamils

Spokesman for LTTE's rebel eastern commander Karuna Amman, denied reports published today, that they have ordered Jaffna Tamils living in the east to leave. Karuna's spokesman, Varathan said, " There is no truth in any of those reports. We have not asked any one to leave the east." Reports said that Jaffna Tamils living in Batticaloa had received threatening calls asking them to leave, after the killing of Batticaloa's TNA candidate, Rajan Sathyamoorthy last morning. Sathyamoorthy, a close friend of Karuna was shot at point blank range yesterday by unknown gunmen believed to be from the LTTE. Karuna's faction accused the Wanni administration of LTTE leader, Prabhakaran for carrying out the assassination.

Divided politicians and divided rebels: Sri Lanka hopes Friday vote will help bring unity

TIM SULLIVAN - Associated Press Writer - COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - (AP) On one side is a bitter, name-calling rivalry between the president and the prime minister. On the other is a secretive rebel movement divided by infighting and publicly vowing to murder a dissident leader but still insisting it's moving toward the mainstream. Peace and war have long been the focus of politics in Sri Lanka - , an island nation savaged for 19 years by fighting with Tamil Tiger rebels until a shaky peace process began with a Feb. 2002 cease-fire. Today, their military victories have given them their own de facto state across the island's north and east.
Now, in a showdown between the president and the prime minister, voters will decide which should set the tone for talks with them.

Polls indicate neither of their parties will win a majority in the 225-seat Parliament, which would force them to make deals with the smaller parties: the party led by Buddhist monks, the Marxists or the Tiger's proxy party the Tamil National Alliance.

If so, Sri Lanka - will once again find itself governed by a coalition. And, almost surely, the rivalry will continue.

President Chandrika Kumaratunga is not even running in the election she's in office until 2005 but both the president and prime minister are seeking parliamentary support to back their stance on peace talks.

Both insist they want peace, and both insist some form of talks will begin again. But they agree on little else, trade occasional public insults and their animosity has been known to all-but shut down the government.

Supporters of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who has lead the negotiations so far, say he is the one politician who is able to talk with the Tigers. He dismisses the president as a crank who ``cannot be taken seriously.''

The president, for her part, deeply distrusts the rebels, and says the prime minister has given them far too many concessions. The victim of a 1999 Tiger assassination attempt that left her blind in one eye, she has grown increasingly isolated since then, surrounding herself with ever-increasing layers of security and seldom appearing in public.

On Tuesday, the final day of campaigning, she appeared before thousands of followers to blast the prime minister and blame the Tigers for a recent surge in political violence.

``Where is the peace the prime minister promised?'' she demanded. ``The prime minister doesn't mind even if the country is divided, as long as he can stay in power.''

Kumaratunga called Friday's election three years ahead of schedule, in the wake of a very public November power struggle that saw her taking command of three powerful ministries under the prime minister's control, saying he'd given up too much to the rebels.

The Tigers, for their part, have suddenly found themselves in a new position: divided.

A secretive group that prizes loyalty above nearly all else, it appeared stunned when a powerful eastern leader defected in March. The leader, known as Karuna, took with him some 6,000 troops from the 15,000-strong rebel army.

The Tiger response was direct and ruthless.

``To safeguard our nation and our people, it has been decided to get rid of Karuna from our soil,'' the Tigers said in a statement, phrasing one observer called ``a death warrant.''

Clearly, though, the split complicates hope for peace, and the Tiger leadership has warned the government that no negotiations should be held with the breakaway faction, saying that would do ``irreparable damage'' to the fragile peace process.

There are indications that damage is already being done. On Tuesday, a parliamentary candidate allied to the breakaway leader was gunned down by two men who stormed his home. Blame quickly fell on the Tigers who just as quickly denied any role in his death.

In her final campaign speech, the president raised the specter of renewed fighting: ``They have started killing Tamil people. Soon they will start killing us,'' she said.

It remains unclear whether the election will clear up any of the rivalry between the president and the prime minister, both of them products of Sri Lanka - 's tiny upper class elite and onetime childhood playmates.

Wanni Administration Behind Sathyamoorthy's killing- Karuna Faction

Varathan, spokesman for LTTE's rebel eastern commander, Colonel Karuna, says that LTTE's Wanni administration is behind the killing of Batticaloa's Tami National Alliance (TNA) candidate, Rajan Sathyamoorthy. Sathyamoorthy (61) and his brother-in-law Kandaiah Kangasabey (64) were killed by two unknown gunmen at about 8.30, yesterday morning (30th). The candidate and his brother in law were shot at point blank range when they came out of the shrine room at Sathyamoorthy's house after their morning pooja. Another person Sinnathamby Thambipillai was also injured during the incident
Karuna Amman's spokesman said that Wanni administration is carrying out an organized campaign to eliminate intellectuals and key figures of the eastern province and their immediate purpose is to paralize the east and weaken them. Varathan also cited the shooting of the Dean of the Agriculture faculty of the eastern university Dr. Thuruchelvam early this month. Dr. Thiruchelvan who was tipped to be the vice chancellor of the eastern university was shot and critically wounded by unidentified gunmen in Batticaloa. The spokesman said, " It is a very systematic operation of elimination. No civilized society will tolerate and accept this kind of savage activities" Varathan said that the election monitors were helpless in the face of these attacks of candidates and they had no immediate need to speak to the monitors. At the time of his death TNA candidate Sathyamoorthy, was also the President of the Batticaloa traders association. He was a popular figure in the area.

Sathyamoorthy openly supported Karuna and his eastern cause. Reports said that LTTE's political wing leader Thamil Chelvam had being critical of the support extended by Sathyamoorthy to Karuna. Karuna Ammans spokesman also said that there is a strong possibility of Wanni administrations involvement in the shooting of UNP candidate T. Maheshwaran in Colombo on Sunday.

Few women in politics in Sri Lanka, despite legacy

COLOMBO, March 31 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka is the home of the world's first female prime minister, but a glance at the candidate list for its general election reveals a glaring shortage of women.

Nearly 45 years after Sirimavo Bandaranaike took power after the assassination of her prime minister husband and led her party through four turbulent decades, the island has seen little trickle-down effect from her example.

Women formed less than five percent of the outgoing parliament, and when Sri Lankans go to the polls on Friday there will be just 22 women to choose from among more than 500 candidates fielded by the two main parties.

"Women don't get nominations by the parties," said Kumari Jayawardene, secretary of Sri Lanka's Social Scientists Association. "It's heavily patriarchal. The men are very interested in political power and they are not willing to let women into that field."

President Chandrika Kumaratunga -- the daughter of Bandaranaike -- has twice been elected president and wields tremendous power as leader of the United People's Freedom Alliance, the main challenger to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's ruling United National Party.

But Jayawardene said the legacy of female leaders from the island's most powerful political family had not changed the status of women in politics.

"There's a difference between dynastic leadership and women at the top. If you're in a political family it is much easier. I think just about all the women in parliament now are from political families," she said.

Many feel women are unsuited to the violent and cut-throat nature of Sri Lankan politics, but ironically it may be the Tamil Tiger rebels -- who have waged a separatist war for 20 years -- who are doing the most to change their status.

The Tigers have openly endorsed a political party, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), and the rebel group known for its women combat units has made a point of fielding a female candidate in each of the five districts the TNA is contesting.

"Difficulties women face in our society have not been properly articulated or addressed," Pathmini Sithamparanthan, a TNA candidate, told Tamil Canadian Radio in an interview.

Residents in her district in the northern Jaffna peninsula say Sithamparanthan could win a seat, bolstered by a female support base that turned out in droves to see her speak at a recent Jaffna campaign meeting.

"Hundreds of women were enthused that finally there is someone who will be given authority to raise problems related to women in a national forum," she said.

Troops guard tense Sri Lanka town

<b>Over 1,000 Sri Lankan soldiers have been deployed in the eastern town of Batticaloa amid tension following the killing of a Tamil election candidate. </b>

Radian Sathiyamoorthy, of the Tamil National Alliance, who was linked to a renegade Tamil Tiger rebel leader, was shot on Tuesday.

His supporters blame Tigers from the main faction for the killing, three days before Friday's general election.

Soldiers are patrolling streets and checkpoints have been set up.

Troops are also guarding the offices and homes of other Tamil election candidates.

Mr Sathiyamoorthy, 61, died instantly at home when attackers fired five bullets into his throat, chest and stomach while he was holding prayers, according to his eldest brother, Natarajamoorty.


Mr Sathiyamoorthy's 55-year-old brother-in-law was also shot and killed.

<b>'House arrest' </b>

Many shops in Batticaloa, 330km (205 miles) east of the capital Colombo, remained closed on Wednesday with white flags flying in a mark of respect for Mr Sathiyamoorthy.

His funeral is scheduled for Thursday.

Mr Sathiyamoorthy was a supporter of Colonel Karuna, who broke away from the main Tamil Tiger faction early in March in protest at its lack of representation for eastern Tamils.

Colonel Karuna's spokesman, Varadan, said the killings were the work of the main movement, based in the north.

An army official told the AFP news agency: "Batticaloa has suddenly become the hotspot for violence due to the split in the group. Everybody is worried because of this."

The alliance's leader in Batticaloa, Joseph Pararasasingam, said: "My party has told me not to step out of my home. I am under house arrest. After the killing all the candidates are scared."


The election observer group, the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence, said it had received reports that the alliance and its Tiger supporters had made it impossible for other Tamil groups to campaign.

Friday's election looks to be a close contest between the parties of President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe.

The Tamil alliance could be left holding the balance of power.

கருணா அநேக வருடங்களாகத் தனது கொடுமையான தமிழ் விரோத சக்தியை வளர்த்திருக்கின்றாரென்பது இப்பொழுது தெரிய வந்துவிட்டது. அவர் செய்த தமிழ் விரோத செயற்பாடுகளை மறைப்பதற்கு ஒரு மாயையை உருவாக்கிவிட்டார். அதுதான் 'பிரதேசவாதம்". மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டம் ஒரு பின்தங்கிய மாவட்டமென்பதை மறுக்கவோ, மறைக்கவோ முடியாது. அண்மையில்தான் மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்ட மாணவர்கள், மாணவிகள் தங்கள் பிரதேசம் பின்தங்கிய பிரதேசமென்ற காரணத்துக்காகக் கல்வி விடயங்களில் அதற்கு உகந்தவாறு அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட வேண்டுமென்று கோரிக்கை விட்டனர். கருணா தான் உண்டாக்கிய போலி மாயையில் வடக்கு வளர்கின்றது, கிழக்கு தேய்கின்றது என்று உண்மைக்கு முரண்பாடான கொள்கையை உருவாக்கிவிட்டார்.

இருபது வருடகால யுத்தத்தில் ஆரம்பத்தில் வடக்கில் தான் துப்பாக்கி ஏந்தி சிங்கள இராணுவத்தை எதிர்த்தனர். வடக்கு முற்றாக அழிக்கப்பட வேண்டுமென்பதுதான் சிங்கள இராணுவத்தின் முதல் இலக்கு. இதில் சிங்கள இராணுவம் வெற்றியடைந்தது. தெற்காசியாவில் மிகவும் புகழ்பெற்ற நூல் நிலையம் யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் எரிக்கப்பட்டது. கடந்த ஐம்பது வருடகாலமாக யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் இரண்டாவது பெரிய நகரமாக விளங்கிய சாவகச்சேரி சுடுகாடானது போல் தெற்காசியாவில் ஒரு இடத்திலும் நடைபெறவில்லை. வட பிராந்தியத்தில் இன்று புகையிரதப் போக்குவரத்து இல்லை. யாழ். மாவட்டத்தில் மாத்திரம் சனத்தொகையில் ஐம்பது வீதம் பேர் வேறு இடங்களுக்கு அகதிகளாகப் போய்விட்டார்கள். வடக்கில் 85 வீதத்துக்கு மேற்பட்ட வீடுகள் சேதமாக்கப்பட்டன.

இத்தருணத்தில் உலக வங்கி சேகரித்த புள்ளிவிபரங்களை நாம் அவதானிப்பது மிகவும் அவசியம். வட கிழக்கில் மூன்று இலட்சத்து இருபத்தையாயிரம் வீடுகள் சேதமாக்கப்பட்டன. யாழ். மாவட்டத்தில் மாத்திரம் ஒரு இலட்சத்துக்கு மேற்பட்ட வீடுகள் சேதமாக்கப்பட்டன. ஏனைய மாவட்டங்களைச் சேர்த்தால் இரண்டு இலட்சத்துக்கு மேல் அதிகாமாக இருக்கும். வடக்கிற்கு தரைமார்க்கமாகவே பயணம் செய்தால் இந்தச் சேதங்களைப் பற்றி நன்கு அறியமுடியும்.

இப்படியான சேதங்களை மட்டக்களப்பு எதிர்கொண்டதா என நாம் கருணாவை கேட்கவிரும்புகின்றோம். பள்ளிக்கூடங்கள், ஐந்நூறுக்கு மேற்பட்ட பாடசாலைகள் சேதமாக்கப்பட்டன. ஆகவே புள்ளிவிபர அடிப்படையில் வடக்கு எதிர்கொண்ட சேதங்கள் கிழக்கிலும் பார்க்க மிகவும் மோசமானவை.

கருணா, மட்டக்களப்பு- அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களை விடுதலைப்புலிகள் ஓரங்கட்டுவதாகவும், பாரபட்சம் காட்டுவதாகவும் சொல்லுகின்றார். அதற்கு ஆதாரமாக புள்ளிவிபரங்களை எடுத்துக் கூறமுடியுமா? விடுதலைப் புலிகள் இயக்கம் தங்களுடைய அபிலாiர்களை இன்னும் நிறைவேற்றவில்லை. அபிலாiர்கள் முழுமையாக நிறைவேற்றிய பின்பு நிரந்தர சமாதானம் ஏற்பட்ட பின்பு விடுதலைப் புலிகளுடைய சகல அமைப்புகளும் அரசியல், பொருளாதாரம், சமூக துறைகளில் மட்டக்களப்பு, அம்பாறையில் பாரபட்சம் காட்டப்பட்டால் அது கண்டனத்துக்குரிய விடயமாகும். ஆனால், பிரபாகரன் நேர்மை, நீதி, திறமை என்ற அடிப்படை அமைப்பில்தான் அவருடைய இராணுவ அமைப்புகளை செயல்படுத்துகின்றார். கருணாவினுடைய திறமை அடிப்படையில் தான் அவருக்கு இராணுவ உயர்ச்சி ஏற்பட்டது. ஆனால், அவர் இப்பொழுது அவருடைய திறமையையும் மறந்து, பொதுநலத்தையும் மறந்து தனது சொந்த சுயநலத்துக்காக பாடுபடுகின்றார். ஆகவே தமிழினம் இவரது சுயநலத்தை மன்னிக்க முடியாது.

வடக்கில்தான் யுத்தம் நடந்தபடியினால் விடுதலைப் புலிகளுடைய இராணுவத் தேவைகளுக்கு மட்டக்களப்பு, அம்பாறையிலுள்ள விடுதலைப் புலி வீரர்கள் வடக்குக்கு அழைக்கப்பட்டனர். இந்த நிகழ்வை கருணா தம்பட்டமடிப்பது நியாயமற்றது. நேர்மையற்றது. மட்டக்களப்பில் பெருமெடுப்பில் யுத்தம் நடந்திருந்தால் நிச்சயம் பிரபாகரன் அதற்குத் தேவையான புலி வீரர்களை வடக்கிலிருந்து அனுப்பியிருப்பார்.

கிழக்கில் ஏன் யுத்தம் நடைபெறவில்லை என்பதை கருணா அறிவாரா? என்ற கேள்வி நிச்சயம் எழுகின்றது. இதற்குக் காரணம் யாதெனில், வடக்கிலுள்ள தமிழர்களையும், வடக்கிலுள்ள விடுதலைப் புலிகளையும் முழுமையாக அழித்த பின்புதான் கிழக்கிலுள்ள தமிழர்களையும், விடுதலைப் புலிகளையும் அழிக்கவேண்டிய நிர்ப்பந்தம் சிங்கள இராணுவத்துக்குண்டு. இன்னொரு காரணமும் கிழக்கில் யுத்தம் நடைபெறாததற்கு உண்டு. கிழக்கில் சிங்கள மக்களும், முஸ்லிம் மக்களும் அறுபது வீதத்துக்கும் மேல் வாழ்கின்றனர். கிழக்கில் யுத்தம் நடந்தால் இந்த இரு சமூகத்தினரும் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு தெற்கு இலங்கையில் அரசியல் பிரச்சினை உருவாகுமென்ற ஒரு பீதி இருந்தது. இதை உணராத கருணா அவருடைய செயல்பாடுகளினால் தியாக சிந்தனையுள்ள மட்டக்களப்பு, அம்பாறை விடுதலைப் புலி இளைஞர்களை கூலிப்படையாக மாற்றுவதற்கு கருணா முயற்சிக்கிறார்.

கருணாவுக்கும், வன்னிக்கும் இராணுவ ரீதியாகவோ, அரசியல் ரீதியாகவோ சமரசத்துக்கு இடமில்லை. ஆகவே கருணாவுக்கு வேறு வழியில்லாமல் சிங்கள அரசையும், சிங்கள இராணுவத்தையும் நம்பி வன்னிக்கு எதிராகச் செயல்பட வாய்ப்புகள் அதிகம். இந்த விடயத்தில் அயல்நாட்டுப் புலனாய்வுத்துறையினரும் பண உதவி செய்யக்கூடும்.

சிங்கள அரசைப் பொறுத்தவரை அல்லது சிங்கள இராணுவத்தைப் பொறுத்தவரை அல்லது அயல் நாட்டு புலனாய்வுத் துறையினைப் பொறுத்தவரை எதிரியின் எதிரி நம்முடைய நண்பன். இந்த உண்மையை வடஇந்திய அரசியல் சாஸ்திரம் நன்கு விபரித்து இருக்கிறது.

ஆகவே சிங்கள இராணுவமும், சிங்கள அரசாங்கமும், கருணாவை தங்களுடைய நலன்களுக்கு மறைமுகமாக பாவிப்பது நிச்சயம். கருணாவுக்கு மறைமுக இராணுவ உதவியும், மறைமுக நிதியுதவியும் கொடுக்கப்படலாம். பகிரங்கமாக இதைச் செய்தால் வன்னி சிங்கள அரசாங்கத்துடன் சகல இராஜதந்திர உறவுகளையும் துண்டி த்து சமாதானப் பேச்சுகளும் இல்லாமல் போய், யுத்தமும் மூளலாம். சிங்கள அரசாங்கம் மறைந்த ஜனாதிபதி ஜயவர்தன இந்தியப் படையை தமிழர்களை அழிப்பதற்குப் பயன்படுத்தியதுபோல் புலிகளை அழிப்பதற்கு கருணாவைப் பயன்படுத்தக்கூடும். இந்தச் சூழ்நிலையில்தான் மட்டக்களப்பு, அம்பாறை விடுதலைப்புலி இளைஞர்களை சிங்கள இராணுவத்தின் கூலிப்படையாகச் செயல்பட வைக்க கருணா முயற்சிக்கிறார்.

கிழக்கு மாகாண தமிழ் இளைஞர்கள் கூலிப்படையாக மாற்றப்படுவதை கிழக்கு மாகாண தமிழ் மக்களும், தமிழ் சமுதாயமும் ஒருபோதும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாது. இந்தக் கொடிய மாற்றத்தைத் தவிர்ப்பதற்கு தன்மானமுள்ள மட்டக்களப்பு அம்பாறைத் தமிழர்கள் சாத்வீக முறையில் தங்கள் எதிர்ப்பைக் காட்டவேண்டிய நிர்ப்பந்தமுண்டு. தங்கள் பிள்ளைகளை கருணாவின் பிடியிலிருந்து விலகுவதற்கு அழுத்தங்கள் கொடுக்க வேண்டும். கூலிப்படையாக மாறவேண்டாம், சகோதர யுத்தம் வேண்டாமென்ற கோர்ங்கள் எட்டுத் திக்கிலும் ஒலிக்க வேண்டும்.

பிரதேசவாதம் வேண்டாமென்றும் குரல் கொடுக்க வேண்டும். மட்டக்களப்பு- அம்பாறை வர்த்தகர்கள் கருணாவுக்கு நிதியுதவி செய்யக்கூடாது.

அரசியல் ரீதியாக அல்லது இராணுவ ரீதியாக குறுகிய காலநேர அட்டவணையில் கருணாவை தங்களுடைய நலன்களுக்காகப் பாவித்து சிங்கள அரசாங்கம் விடுதலைப் புலிகளை அழித்தபின்பு கருணாவும் அழிக்கப்படுவார். இதுதான் அரசியலுண்மை. இப்படியான விபரீதம் நடந்தால் கிழக்கு மாகாணம் நூற்றுக்கு நூறு சிங்கள ஆதிக்கத்துக்கு வருவது தவிர்க்க முடியாதது.

தமிழ்த் தேசியத்தை வலியுறுத்துகின்ற இடைக்கால தன்னாட்சி அதிகாரத்தை வலியுறுத்துகின்ற வேட்பாளர்களுக்கே மக்கள் வாக்களிக்க வேண்டும். குறிப்பாக மட்டக்களப்பு மக்கள் அந்த வகையான தமிழ்த் தேசிய கடமையிலிருந்து தவறிவிடக்கூடாது என விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் மூத்த தளபதிகளில் ஒருவரான சி.கரிகாலன் கேசரிக்கு வழங்கிய பேட்டியில் தெரிவித்தார்.

சகோதர யுத்தம் ஒன்றை நடத்தும் நோக்கம் புலிகளின் தலைமைக்கு இல்லை. ஆனால் கருணா தனது ஆட்களுடன் வாகரை பிரதேசத்தில் அவ்வாறான ஒரு யுத்தத்திற்கு தயாராகி வருகின்றார். தற்செயலாக யுத்தம் ஒன்று நடைபெற்று கருணாவுடன் நிற்கும் போராளிகள் இறந்தால் அவர்கள் புலி உறுப்பினர்களாக கருதப்பட மாட்டார்கள். ஆனால் அவர்கள் கருணாவிற்கு எதிராக போரிட்டு சாவு அடைந்தால் புலி உறுப்பினர்களாகவே கருதப்படுவர் என்றும் கரிகாலன் கூறினார்.

பிரதேசவாதத்திற்கு கிழக்கு மாகாண மக்கள் ஆதரவில்லை. ஆனால் தமிழ்த் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்பின் சில வேட்பாளர்கள் தங்கள் வெற்றிக்காக பிரதேசவாதத்தை தூண்டி மக்களின் ஆதரவைப் பெற முற்படுகின்றார்கள். மக்கள் தனக்கு ஆதரவு இல்லையென்பது கருணாவிற்கு புரிந்து விட்டது. இதனாலேதான் தனக்கு சார்பாக நிற்கின்ற குறிப்பிட்ட வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு வாக்களிக்குமாறு கருணா கேட்டிருக்கின்றார். ஆனால் மக்கள் அதனை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டதாக இல்லை.

<b>மக்கள் விழிப்பாக இருக்கவேண்டும் </b>

இதனால் வாக்களிப்பு நடைபெறுகின்ற போது மக்களை பலாத்காரம் பண்ணி வாக்களிக்க அல்லது கள்ள வாக்கு போட முனையலாம். படுவான்கரை பிரதேச மக்களின் வாக்காளர் அட்டைகளை தபால் நிலையத்திலிருந்து கருணாவின் ஆட்கள் எடுத்துச் சென்றதாக அறிகின்றோம். ஆகவே கள்ளவாக்குகள் போடுவதற்கான சந்தர்ப்பங்கள் உண்டு. எனவே மக்கள் விழிப்பாக இருந்து தங்கள் வாக்குரிமையை பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும். அந்த நிலை உருவாக்கப்பட வேண்டும்.

தமிழ்த் தேசியத்தை வலியுறுத்துகின்ற இடைக்கால தன்னாட்சி அதிகாரத்தை வலியுறுத்துகின்ற வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு மக்கள் வாக்களிக்க வேண்டும். சர்வதேச சமூகம் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றது. ஆகவேதான் தமிழ்த் தேசியத்தை உறுதிப்படுத்தும் வகையில் மட்டக்களப்பு மக்கள் வாக்களிக்க வேண்டும். அந்த நிலை உருவாகவேண்டும்.

<b>உண்மை நிலை போராளிகளுக்கு தெரியவில்லை </b>

சகோதர யுத்தம் ஒன்றிற்கு கருணா தன்னை தயார்படுத்தி வருகின்றார். அதற்கான சூழலை உருவாக்கியுள்ளார். வாகரையில் காவலரண்களை அமைத்து போராளிகளையும் நிறுத்தி வாகரையை ஒரு யுத்த சூழ்நிலைக்குள் கொண்டு வந்துள்ளார். தலைவர் எங்களுக்கு துரோகம் செய்துவிட்டார். வன்னியில் இருந்து ஒரு தீர்வு வரும் அல்லது எங்கள் எல்லோரையும் அழித்து விடுவார்கள். அதற்காகவே நாங்கள் யுத்தத்திற்கு தயாராக இருக்கவேண்டும் என்று கருணா வாகரை மக்களுக்கும் போராளிகளுக்கும் சொல்லி வைத்திருக்கின்றார். உண்மையான நிலைமை அங்குள்ள போராளிகளுக்கு தெரியவில்லை.

உண்மையான நிலைமையை போராளிகளுக்கும் மக்களுக்கும் தெரியப்படுத்துவதற்காக நாங்கள் ஒரு செய்தியை அனுப்பியுள்ளோம். அங்குள்ள பெற்றோர்களும் கருணாவிடம் போய் தங்கள் பிள்ளைகளை மீள ஒப்படைக்குமாறு கேட்கிறார்கள். தேசியத் தலைவரின் கீழ் போராடவே பிள்ளைகளை அனுப்பினோம். தமிழ்த் தேசியத்திற்காகவே எமது பிள்ளைகள் போராட வேண்டும். உங்களின் தலைமையின் கீழ் போராட நாங்கள் பிள்ளைகளை அனுப்பவில்லை என பெற்றோர் கேட்கிறார்கள்.

ஆனால் கருணா பெற்றோரிடம் இது ஒரு சிறு பிரச்சினை. விரைவில் முடிவுக்கு வரும். அதன் பின்னர் நான் நல்ல பதில் கூறுகின்றேன். அல்லது தேர்தல் முடிந்த பின்னர் கூறுகின்றேன் என்று சொல்லி சமாளித்திருக்கின்றார். ஆகவே தேர்தல் முடிவு கருணாவின் நிலைப்பாட்டில் மாற்றத்தை கொண்டுவரலாம்.

கருணாவின் எதிர்பார்ப்பு தேர்தல் முடிவுதான். ஆகவே நாங்களும் தேர்தல் முடிந்த பின்னர் ஒரு மாற்றத்தை கொண்டுவரலாம் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கின்றோம். தமிழ்த் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்பு ஒரு கொள்கையின் அடிப்படையிலேயே போட்டியிடுகின்றது. தேர்தல் முடிவடைந்த பின்னர் ஒரு சில உறுப்பினர்கள் வேறுவிதமான கொள்கைகளை கடைப்பிடித்தால் அது குறித்து கட்சி நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கும். தற்போதைய சூழலில் தமிழ்த் தேசியத்திற்கு எதிராக எவரும் செயற்பட்டால் மக்கள் அதனை விரும்பமாட்டார்கள். நாங்களும் அதனை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள மாட்டோம். எவ்வாறாயினும் மக்கள் அவ்வாறானவர்களை இந்த தேர்தலில் நிராகரிக்க வேண்டும்.

<b>தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் தொடர்பு </b>

இராணுவம் கருணாவுடன் நட்பு ரீதியான ஒரு தொடர்பை மட்டுமே வைத்திருக்கின்றது. அரசாங்கத்தின் உதவியோடு இல்லாமல் தனிப்பட்ட முறையில்தான் இராணுவம் கருணாவோடு தொடர்பு கொண்டிருக்கின்றது. எமது போராட்டத்தை சிதைக்கின்ற நோக்கத்தில் தான் கருணாவை ஒரு உத்தியாக பயன்படுத்துகின்றது. கருணாவை வைத்துக் கொண்டு எமது போராட்டத்தை பலவீனப்படுத்த இராணும் முயற்சிக்கலாம். அவ்வாறு பயன்படுத்திவிட்டு கருணாவை கடைசியில் இராணுவம் கைவிடும் நிலையும் வரலாம். புளொட் மோகன் மாதிரி பயன்படுத்துவதற்கும் இராணுவம் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கலாம்.

கருணாவினுடைய செயற்பாடுகளை பார்க்கும் போது அவ்வாறுதான் தெரிகின்றது. அப்படி ஒரு சூழ்நிலை வருமானால் அவ்வளவு போராளிகளும் பாதிக்கப்படுவார்கள். அதனால் மட்டக்களப்பு அம்பாறை மாவட்ட மக்கள் அனைவருமே கருணாவை எதிர்க்கின்ற ஒரு நிலைதான் ஏற்படும்.

கிழக்கு மாகாணம் பாரிய பாதிப்புகளுக்கு உட்பட்டது. குறிப்பாக குடியேற்றத்திட்டம் தமிழ் மக்களின் இருப்புக்கு அச்சுறுத்தலாக இருந்தது. பதியதலாவ வரையும் தமிழ் மக்கள் குடியிருந்தவர்கள். மகா ஒயாவிலும் தமிழ் மக்கள் இருந்திருக்கிறார்கள். இவையெல்லாம் 1983ஆம் ஆண்டு கலவரத்தில் பேரினவாதிகளால் கைப்பற்றப்பட்ட பிரதேசங்கள்; தமிழ் மக்கள் அங்கிருந்து கலைக்கப்பட்டார்கள். கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தில்தான் கூடுதலான பிரதேசம் பறி போயிருக்கின்றது. மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டம் கூடுதலாக ஒடுக்கு முறைக்கு உள்ளாக்கப்பட்டது.

<b>கருணா ஒளிந்திருக்க காடு கூட இருந்திருக்காது </b>

ஒடுக்கு முறைக்கு உள்ளாக்கப்பட்ட மட்டக்களப்பு மக்கள் இன்று கரைகடந்திருப்பதற்கு காரணம் எமது தேசியத் தலைவரின் தலைமையிலான போராட்டம்தான். இந்த போராட்டம் இல்லையென்றால் இன்று கருணா இருக்கின்ற பிரதேசமே இருந்திருக்காது. கருணா ஒளிந்திருப்பதற்கு அங்கு காடு கூட இருந்திருக்காது. ஆனால் கருணா இன்று அதனை மறந்துவிட்டார். திட்டமிடப்பட்ட குடியேற்றத்தை விட அபிவிருத்தி பிரச்சினைதான் கருணாவிற்கு பெரிதாக படுகின்றது.

திட்டமிட்ட குடியேற்றம்தான் ஒரு இனத்தை அழிப்பதற்கான பிரதான காரணி. பிரதேசம் இல்லையென்றால் மக்கள் வாழ முடியாது. அதனைத் தடுப்பதற்குத்தான் விடுதலைப் போராட்டம். அதன் மூலமே எமது பிரதேசங்களை தக்கவைத்துக் கொள்ளலாம். கருணாவிற்கு சலுகைகள் எதனையும் தலைவர் கொடுக்கவில்லை. அவர் மீது நம்பிக்கை வைத்திருந்தார். ஆற்றல் உள்ளவர் என்ற அடிப்படையிலும் இக்கட்டான கால கட்டங்களில் பக்கபலமாக நின்று செயற்பட்டவர் என்ற ரீதியிலும் 1987ஆம் ஆண்டிலிருந்து மட்டக்களப்பை நிர்வகிப்பதற்கு அனுமதியளித்திருக்கின்றார். இடை இடையே அவரை அழைத்து தலைவர் ஆலோசனையும் வழங்கியிருந்தார். அந்தளவிற்கு நம்பிக்கையிருந்தது.

<b>தலைவர் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை</b>

Karuna Says No threat to Jaffna Tamils

Bandula Jayasekara in Colombo, SLT 4.45 P.M Wednesday 31 March. Spokesman for LTTE's rebel eastern commander Karuna Amman, denied reports published today, that they have ordered Jaffna Tamils living in the east to leave. Karuna's spokesman, Varathan said, \" There is no truth in any of those reports. We have not asked any one to leave the east.\" Reports said that Jaffna Tamils living in Batticaloa had received threatening calls asking them to leave, after the killing of Batticaloa's TNA candidate, Rajan Sathyamoorthy last morning. Sathyamoorthy, a close friend of Karuna was shot at point blank range yesterday by unknown gunmen believed to be from the LTTE. Karuna's faction accused the Wanni administration of LTTE leader, Prabhakaran for carrying out the assassination.

மட்டக்களப்பில் உள்ள யாழ்பாணத் தமிழர்கள் உடனடியாக அப் பகுதியை விட்டு வெளியேற வேண்டும் என கருணா தலைமையிலான படை மிரட்டல் விடுத்துள்ளது.


இதனால் அப் பகுதியில் பெரும் பதற்றம் நிலவுகிறது.

கருணா தலைமையிலான படையினர் ஒலிப் பெருக்கிகள் மூலம் இந்த அறிவிப்புகளை வெளியிட அதை போலீசார் அமைதியாக பார்த்தபடி இருந்தனர். மேலும் துண்டுப் பிரசுரங்களையும் அவர்கள் வீடுகளில் வீசினர்.

அதில், யாழ்பாணத் தமிழர்கள் தான் கிழக்குப் பகுதியின் வளர்ச்சி முடங்கிப் போனதற்கு முக்கியக் காரணம். இதனால் அவர்கள் செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை நள்ளிரவு 12 மணிக்குள் (நேற்றிரவு) இப் பகுதியை விட்டு வெளியேற வேண்டும்.

யாரும் தங்களது அசையும் சொதுக்களை உடன் எடுத்துச் செல்லக் கூடாது. அதிகபட்சமாக ரூ. 500யை மட்டும் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு வெளியே வேண்டும். உங்களது அசையா சொத்துக்கள் இனி உங்களுக்குச் சொந்தமானவை அல்ல.

இதனால் அங்கு பெரும் அச்சமும், பதற்றம் நிவவுகிறது. இந்த மிரட்டலுக்கு அஞ்சி எத்தனை குடும்பங்கள் வெளியேறின என்பது குறித்து உடனடியாகத் தெரியவில்லை.

இந் நிலையில் கருணாவின் படைகளை ஒடுக்க விடுதøல் புலிகளின் கமாண்டோ படைகள் கிழக்குப் பகுதிகளில் ஊடுருவி வருவதாகவும் செய்திகள் வருகின்றன.

Businesses belonging to Tamils from Jaffna remain closed in Batticaloa, Chenkalady, Kaluwanchikudi, Pandiriuppu and Kalmunai areas as the owners left the area on the orders of renegade commander Karuna said sources in Batticaloa.
About 5000 members of Jaffna Tamil families have left Batticaloa to Colombo, Vavuniya and Jaffna Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, civil sources in Batticaloa said.

Belongings of many of these families were reported confiscated by Karuna cadres.

Clothing factory in Kalliyankadu, Batticaloa also remains closed.

Some Jaffna Traders have made complaints to Batticaloa police that they were leaving the area as they were threatened with death by cadres belonging to Karuna group, police sources said.

Mr. Tharmaratnam, a Jaffna businessman with a shop in Pandiruppu was abducted with all the stock from his shop in a lorry, and was threatened with death before being left free. He and his family left the area Wednesday morning, according to residents of Pandiruppu.

Most of Tamil shops and houses have been looted in Batticaloa town and Chenkaladi, according to sources. Only business establishments of Muslims are seen opened in Batticaloa town Wednesday, sources said.

Police sources said that there is fear and tension in the area following these incidents. </span>

The Batticaloa Magistrate Mr.A.J.M.Ajmeer Wednesday ordered remand till April 14 for four persons who are said to be cadres of Mr. Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan (Karuna), renegade commander of the LTTE when they were produced in court on a report that they were taken into custody for possession of dangerous weapons, legal sources said.
According to report the Kattankudy Police had intercepted a blue color Dolphin van speeding from Batticaloa near the Manchanthoduvai Technical College and recovered weapons and ammunition which included T 56 live bullets, one T 56 magazine, 07 hand grenades, 93 SKG bombs and several other weapons. The police produced the van with weapons in court Wednesday.

The Police took into custody four persons, Kanapathipillai Mahendran alias Sachchu Master, Samithamby Rajan alias Mayuran, Velapody Varathakumar alias Manohar, Arasamani Suresh alias Guruparan alias Ketheeswaran who were travelling in the van at that time, legal sources said.

The Police told court that according to information they received the suspects were on their way to commit criminal offences.

The Police further brought to the notice of the court that they have received information on the movements of several persons with dangerous weapons in the government-controlled area, legal sources said. </span>
