விடுதலைப் புலிகளுடனான சந்திப்பில் பிரிட்டிஷ் படைத்துறை அதிகாரி


தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் தலைமைப் பீடத்தை சந்திப்பதற்காக வன்னி சென்ற பிரித்தானிய உயர்ஸ்தானிகராலயக்; குழுவில், பிரித்தானிய படைத்துறையின் உயர் அதிகாரி ஒருவரும் இடம்பெற்றிருந்ததாக தெரிவிக்கப்படுகிறது.

தற்போது மட்டக்களப்பு அம்பாறை மாவட்டங்களில் காணப்படும் அரசியல் சூழ்நிலைகள் தொடர்பாக பிரித்தானிய உயர்ஸ்தானிகராலய குழுவினரிற்கு தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளினால் எடுத்துக் கூறப்பட்டதாகவும் தெரிவிக்கப்படுகிறது.

Sri Lanka Tigers vow to take back land as rivals brace along river bank


TRINCOMALEE, Sri Lanka (AFP) - Sri Lanka's rival Tamil Tiger factions deployed fighters on the banks of a river here as the main guerrilla outfit vowed to take back territory from a renegade regional commander.

The political wing leader of the main Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the northeastern port district of Trincomalee, S. Thilak, said the group's fighters were poised against the breakaway faction of V. Muralitharan.

The renegade leader, better known as Karuna, has said he commands about 5,000 fighters, which accounts for about a third of the original force of the LTTE which has fought for three decades to set up a separate Tamil homeland.

"Both sides have their cadres camping on the two banks of the Verugal river that marks the district border," Thilak told reporters here Friday after talks with a visiting Norwegian peace envoy, Erik Solheim.

But Thilak said there had been no fighting between the two groups, who according to the military were within small-arms range of each other.

Both sides have sought to play down fears of an internecine war, but government forces have been placed on alert to avoid getting dragged into a fresh conflict.

The military in Trincomalee, 260 kilometres (160 miles) northeast of Colombo, said it was concerned after hearing explosions overnight from an area held by the Tigers, but that the blasts turned out to be a rebel exercise.

The main LTTE's northern-based political leader S.P. Thamilselvan said the rebels were taking "careful steps" to bring the eastern districts of Batticaloa and Ampara back under their control "without any bloodshed or danger to our cadres."

"Karuna not only has been relieved of his responsibilities, he has been removed from the movement," Thamilselvan was quoted as saying by the pro-rebel Tamilnet.com website.

"By rejecting to abide by the movement's ruling he is pushing himself into a dangerous corner."

The LTTE leadership acknowledged for the first time that Karuna, its former eastern commander, had a fighting force but said his support was dwindling.

"Cadres under Karuna's command are distancing (themselves) and deserting him gradually," Thamilselvan said.

"Karuna is increasingly facing danger from among his own group of cadres."

Karuna told AFP in an interview Tuesday he led the unprecedented split because the main Tiger leadership was preparing for war despite a February 2002 ceasefire and had ignored the interests of Tamils in eastern Sri Lanka.

Solheim was in Sri Lanka as part of a previously arranged visit to review the Norwegian-arranged ceasefire, but had no plans to travel to the Batticaloa district where Karuna holds sway.

Solheim said Norway was keeping out of the internal rift in the LTTE, which in September 2002 opened Oslo-brokered talks with the Colombo government to end the civil war which has claimed more than 60,000 lives.

The Norwegians suspended their brokering role in November after President Chandrika Kumaratunga accused rival Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of conceding too much in talks with the Tigers.

Kumaratunga assumed the portfolios of defence and interior and the Norwegians said they would "return home and wait" until there was "clarity as to who was really in charge in Colombo."

The rivalry between the president and the prime minister has led to snap elections to be held April 2.

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - (AP) President Chandrika Kumaratunga's political alliance said it will introduce a new constitution that scraps Sri Lanka - 's powerful presidency, if it wins April 2 parliamentary elections. The alliance said that if elected, it would form a parliamentary committee to write the new constitution, which it would put before Sri Lanka - 's 19 million people in a referendum. Any changes to the constitution currently require a two-thirds majority of Parliament. Sri Lanka - , a former British colony called Ceylon, had a completely parliamentary democracy until Wickremesinghe's United National Front Party changed it in 1977, creating a presidential position. The president can sack the government and call elections at any time, and is also the head of the country's armed forces.

Speaking of the role played by the Norwegian monitors, the ANC member said " I don't know. Nordic countries have been doing a good job. They have a history of being impartial" On the issue of inviting India as a monitor Ebrahim had this to say " As for India, India is just next-door. It is ok if all the parties accept them. We don't know if all the parties would accept them. What are their attitudes towards India? If the North is suspicious of India then they cannot play that role. Negotiations with LTTE, Presidency to be abolished - UPFA manifesto

"The ceasefire will continue. We are committed to take all measures required to prevent the nation from going back to war," said the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in its forty four-page election manifesto released Thursday night at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, political sources in Colombo said.

The major constituent parties of the UPFA are the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna. General Secretaries of the constituent political parties were present at the occasion, sources said.

The manifesto further said that UPFA has committed itself to solve the ethnic problem through a process of negotiated political settlement. " Steps will be taken to enter into a process of negotiation with the LTTE and other groups to bring about, on reasonable conditions, a sustainable solution. Negotiations will be transparent," the UPFA election manifesto said.

The UPFA will also continue the process of rehabilitation and reconstruction in the northeast with renewed vigour, said the manifesto.

On the proposed constitutional reforms the UPFA said in its manifesto that the Executive Presidency will be abolished and a new electoral system will be adopted. A new constitution with the peoples' approval will be formulated.

The manifesto devoted several pages to educational reforms, which have been identified as essential to the future well being of the society.

கிழக்கில் கருணா தன் மீதான குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை மூýடிý மறைப்பதற்காக கிளப்பிய பிரதேசவாதம் பொது மக்கள் மத்தியில் எடுபடவில்லை. கருணாவின் அடாவடிýத்தனங்களுக்கு அங்குள்ள மக்கள் பலியாக மாட்டார்கள் என்று நாம் உறுதியாக நம்புகிறோம். கருணாவுடன் இருந்த ஏராளமான தளபதிகளும், பொறுப்பாளர்களும், போராளிகளும் வன்னிக்கு வந்து அவரது அத்துமீறல்கள், குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை ஆதாரப10ர்வமாக நிரூýபித்துள்ளார்கள். கருணாவிடம் பணயக் கைதிகளாக இருக்கும் போராளிகள், தொடர்ந்து தப்பியோடிý வந்து கொண்டிýருக்கிறார்கள்.

கிழக்கு நெருக்கடிý குறித்து திருமலை வாழ்மட்டக்களப்பு மக்கள் சார்பில் அறிக்கை

சர்வதேச சமூýகமே எமது கோரிக்கையை நியாயமானதென அங்கீகரிக்கக் கூýடிýய ஒரு சாதகமான சூýழல் உருவாகிவரும் இந்நேரத்தில், அனைத்தையும் தலைகீழாகப் புரட்டிýவிடும் இந்தப் பிரதேசவாத பிளவுக்கு நாம் முகங் கொடுக்காது, நமது ஐக்கியத்தைக் கட்டிý வளர்க்க வேண்டும். எமது போர் வரலாற்றில் வெற்றியைப் பின்னுக்குத் தள்ளும் எந்தவித சதிக்கும் ஆட்படாது இருக்க வேண்டும். எமக்கு ஏற்பட்டுள்ள இத் தலைக் குனிவை நிமர வைக்க கை கோர்ப்போம்.

தமிழ் பேசும் மக்களின் பிரச்சினை கூýர்மையடைந்து ஆயுதப் போராட்ட நிலைமை தோன்றுவதற்கு முன்னரே அறப் போராட்ட காலத்திலேயே எம்மிடம் வடக்கு, கிழக்கு என்கிற பேதம் ஒருபோதும் இருந்ததில்லை. காலத்திற்குக் காலம் இயற்கை அழிவுகள் ஏற்பட்ட போதும் எமக்கு உதவிய கரங்களுக்குரியவர்கள் பிரதேசம் கடந்த உணர்வுடையவர்களாகவே இருந்துள்ளனர். எமது போராட்டம் தனித்த ஒரு பிரதேசத்தை முன்வைத்து ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டதல்ல. ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக தமிழீழப் பிரதேசங்களை வென்றெடுக்கும் ஒரே நோக்கத்துடன் தான் எமது நடவடிýக்கைகள் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டன. அமரர்களான இராசமாணிக்கம், இராஜவரோதயம் போன்ற தலைவர்கள் கட்டிýக்காத்து வளர்த்த ஐக்கியத்தை தனது சுயநலத்திற்காகவும் குறுகிய நோக்கத்திற்காகவும் இராசதுரை அவர்களின் வழியில் காட்டிýக் கொடுக்க முனைந்துள்ள துரோக நடவடிýக்கை தற்போது நிகழ்ந்துள்ளது. இதனையிட்டு மட்டக்களப்பைச் சேர்ந்த தமிழ் பேசும் மக்களாகிய நாம் வெட்கித் தலை குனிகின்றோம்.

தமிழினத்திற்காக தங்களது உயிரைத் தியாகம் செய்தவர்களின் குருதிகளில் பிரதேச வாதம் இருந்ததா? தமிழ் மக்களின் இன விடுதலைக்காக தன்னுயிரைத் தியாகம் செய்த அன்னை ப10பதியின் தியாக உணர்விற்கு நாம் கொடுத்துள்ள விலை இந்தப் பிரதேச வாதம் தானா?.

எப்போது நாம் பிளவுபடுவோம்? எப்போது போராட்டம் பின்னடைவு கானும் எனக் காத்திருக்கும் பேரினவாத சக்திகளுக்கும் எம்மிடையே இருக்கும் சில குறுகிய மனப்பான்மையுடையோர்க்கும் மகிழ்ச்சிய10ட்டக் கூýடிýய இந்த நிலைமை உண்மையில் விடுதலையை விரும்பும் எம் போன்றோருக்கு தலை குனிவையும் பெரும் சோகத்தையும் ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

சுவாமி விபுலானந்தர், புலவர்மணி பெரியதம்பிப்பிள்ளை போன்ற தமிழ் சான்றோர்களால் பேணி வளர்க்கப்பட்டு வந்த எமது தமிழ் பண்பாட்டிýற்கு ஏற்பட்டிýருக்கும் பெரும் களங்கம் இதுவாகும். எம்மைப் பிளவுபடுத்துவதற்கு ஆரம்ப காலத்திலிருந்தே தீவிரமாகச் செயல்பட்ட டிý.எஸ்.சேனாநாயக்கவின் சதிமுயற்சியும் பின்னர் ஜே.ஆர்.ஜெயவர்தன அதன் பின்னர் சந்திரிகா, கதிர்காமர் ஆகியோரின் சதிமுயற்சிகள் எமது பிரதேசத்தைச் சேர்ந்த இந்த ஒருவரின் செயலுக்கு எந்த விதத்திலும் சளைத்ததல்ல என்னும் ஒரு முடிýவிற்கு எம்மை வரத் தூண்டிýயுள்ளன.

தமிழ் பேசும் மக்களுக்கு வழிகாட்டக் கூýடிýய ஒரு விடிýவெள்ளியாக, நம்பிக்கை நட்சத்திரமாகத் தோன்றியுள்ள ஒரே தலைவர் பிரபாகரன் ஆவார். அவருடைய தலைமையில் நாம் வென்றடைய வேண்டிýய உரிமையை நாம் குழி தோண்டிýப் புதைக்க இருக்கும் இந்தச் சதிக்கு நாம் விலை போகாதிருக்க உறுதி கொள்வோமாக.

எவ்வளவு இரத்தம், எவ்வளவு உயிர்கள், எத்தனை உறுப்புகள் தமிழீழ விடிýவுக்காக இழக்கப்பட்டன. அவற்றிற்கு நாம் என்ன பதில் சொல்லப் போகின்றோம்? இன்று துரோகத்தின் உச்சக்கட்டம் எமது பிரதேசத்தில் இருந்தே கிளம்பியிருக்கிறது. இந்தச் சோகம் பெரும் மனக்கிலேசத்தையும், உள வேதனையையும் எம்மிடையே ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. இதனை எவ்வாறு தீர்த்துக் கொள்வது? மட்டக்களப்பு வாழ் மக்களே சற்று சிந்தியுங்கள். சர்வதேச சமூýகமே எமது கோரிக்கையை நியாயமென அங்கீகரிக்கக்கூýடிýய ஒரு சாதகமான சூýழல் உருவாகிவரும் இந் நேரத்தில் அனைத்தையும் தலைகீழாகப் புரட்டிýவிடும் இந்தப் பிரதேசவாத பிளவுக்கு நாம் முகங் கொடுக்காது நமது ஐக்கியத்தைக் கட்டிý வளர்ப்போமாக. எமது போர் வரலாற்றில் வெற்றியைப் பின்னுக்குத் தள்ளும் எந்தவித சதிக்கும் ஆட்படாது இருப்போமாக. எமக்கு ஏற்பட்டுள்ள இந்தத் தலை குனிவை நிமிர வைக்க கை கோர்ப்போமாக.

விடுதலைப்புலிகள் இயக்கத்தில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள பிளவினால் உருவாகியுள்ள புதிய நிலைமையை இலங்கை முஸ்லிம்கள் நிதானமாக அனுக வேண்டி யுள்ளது. எனவே இது குறித்து கருத்து வெளியிடும் போது வடக்கு கிழக்கு பகுதி தமிழ் மக்களினது மனதைப் புண்படுத்தும் வகையில் கருத்து வெளியிடாமல் முஸ்லிம் அரசியல் வாதிகள் நிதானமாக நடந்து கொள்ள வேண்டுமென }லங்கா முஸ்லிம் மீடியா போரம் முஸ்லிம் அரசியல்வாதிகளிடம் வேண்டுகோள் விடுத்துள்ளது.

விடுதலைப்புலிகள் இயக்கத்தில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள பிளவினால் வடக்கு கிழக்குப் பகுதிகளில் புதிய அரசியல் சூ ழலொன்றும் பதற்ற நிலைமையும் உருவாகி இருக்கிறது.

இந்த நிலையில் நாட்டில் பலர் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள பிளவைப் பார்த்து மன வேதனை அடைவதையும் வேறு பலர் அதனைக் கண்டு கொக்கரித்துச் சிரிப்பதையும் நாம் காண்கிறோம்.

புதிய நிலைமையை இலங்கை முஸ்லிம்கள் நிதானமாக அனுக வேண்டி யுள்ளது. குறிப்பாக தற்போது தேர்தல் காலம் என்பதால் பெரும் எண்ணிக்கையானோர் அரசியல் மேடைகளில் பேசுவதால் அந்த நிதான அனுகுமுறை மிகவும் முக்கியமாக இருக்கிறது.

புலிகளிடம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள இந்தப் பிணக்கில் எந்தப் பிரிவினர் சரியானவர்கள் என்றோ எந்தப் பிரிவினர் பிழையானவர்கள் என்றோ தீர்ப்பு வழங்குவது முஸ்லிம்களின் பணியல்ல. அதேவேளை இந்தச் சிக்கல் எவ்வாறு தீர்க்கப்படும் என்பது எவராலும் கூறமுடியாது.

அதேவேளை இந்தப் பிரச்சினை மோதலில் முடிந்தாலும் சுமுகமாக முடி ந்தாலும் வடக்கு கிழக்கு முஸ்லிம் மக்கள் தமிழ் மக்களோடு ஒன்று சேர்ந்து வாழ்ந்தேயாக வேண்டும். எனவே கடந்த கால கசப்புணர்வுகளால் உந்தப்பட்டு அநாவசியமாக வட பகுதி தமிழ் மக்களினதோ அல்லது கிழக்குத் தமிழ் மக்களினதோ மனதைப் புண்படுத்தும் வகையில் கருத்து வெளியிடாமல் முஸ்லிம் அரசியல்வாதிகள் கவனமாக நடந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும் என }லங்கா முஸ்லிம் மீடியா போரம் கேட்டுக் கொள்கிறது.

அவ்வாறு கருத்து வெளியிடுவதால் வடக்கிலும் கிழக்கிலும் வாழும் முஸ்லிம்களிடையேயும் கசப்புணர்வுகள் உருவாகலாம் என்பதையும் சுட்டி க் காட்ட விரும்புகிறோம்.

புலிகள் இயக்கத்தை விட்டு நீக்கிய கருணா கோhpக்கை, பிரதமர் ரனில் நிராகாpத்தார் புதிய போர் நிறுத்த ஒப்பந்தத்தில் கையெழுத்திட முடியாது


கொழும்பு, மார்ச்13- கருணாவிடம் இருந்து மட்டக்களப்பை, ரத்தம் சிந்தாமல் மீட்போம் என்று விடுதலைப்புலிகள் தலைவர் பிரபாகரன் இயக்கம் அறிவித்துள்ளது.

இலங்கையில் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தில் பிளவு வெடித்து உள்ளது அல்லவா? கிழக்கு மகாண கமாண்டர் கருணா இயக்க தலைவர் பிரபாகரனுக்கு எதிராக போர்க்கொடி தூக்கி உள்ளார். துரோகி என்று முத்திரை குத்தி கருணாவை விடுதலைப் புலிகள் இயகத்தில் இருந்து பிரபாகரன் நீக்கினார். அந்த பதவியில் தனக்கு விசுவாசமான டி.ரமேஷை நியமித்தார். ஆனால் அவர் கிழக்கு மாகாண கமாண்டராக பதவி ஏற்க முடியவில்லை.

இப்போது பிரபாகரனுக்கும் கருணாவுக்கும் மோதல் உச்சகட்டத்தை எட்டியது. ஒரு கட்டத்தில், புலிகள் இயக்க உளவு பிhpவு தலைவர் பொட்டு அம்மன் உள்பட 3 நிர்வாகிகளை நீக்கவேண்டும் என்று கருணா நிபந்தனை விதித்தார். அதோடு, போர் நிறுத்த ஒப்பந்தத்தை இலங்கை அரசு எங்களுடன் செய்து கொள்ளவேண்டும். நார்வே அமைதி குழு எங்களுடன் நேரடியாக பேசவேண்டும். என்று கருணா நிபந்தனை விதித்தார்.

மட்டக்களப்பில் அடர்ந்த காட்டில் முகாமிட்டு இருக்கும் கருணா நேற்று முன்தினம் ராயிட்டர் செய்தி நிறுவனத் ;துக்கு அளித்த பேட்டியில் பிரபாகரன் தலைவர் பதவிக்கே தகுதி இல்லாதவர்] என்று சாடினார்.

புலிகள் இயக்கத்தில் இருந்து நீக்கப்பட்ட கருணாவுடன் எந்த பேச்சும் நடத்தக்கூடாது என்று இலங்கை அரசுக்கு பிரபாகரன் வேண்டுகோள் விடுத்து உள்ளார்.

கருணா கோhpக்கையை ஏற்று புதிய போர் நிறுத்த ஒப்பந்தத்தில் கையெழுத்திட முடியாது என்று பிரதமர் ரனில் விக்ரமசிங்கே அரசு பதில் அளித்து உள்ளது. பிரபாகரனுடன் செய்து கொண்ட ஒப்பந்தம்போது மானது.பிரபாகரனுடன் போர் நிறுத்ததுக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்த நார்வே சிறப்பு பிரதிநிதி புலிகள் இயக்க தலைவர்களை சந்தித்துப் பேசுவதற்கு கிளிநொச்சி சென்று உள்ளார். அங்கு அவர் நிருபர்க ளிடம் பேசுகையில் புலிகள் இயக்க உள்கட்சி பிரச்சினையில் தலையிடமாட்டோம் என்றhர்.

பிரபாகரன் எச்சாpக்கை

நேற்று தமிழ் இணைய தளத்துக்கு புலிகள் இயக்க அரசியல் பிhpவு தலைவர் தமிழ் செலவன் பேட்டி அளித்தார். அப்போது அவர் கூறியதாவது„-

விடுதலைப்புலிகள் இயக்;கத்தின் விதிமுறைகளை மீறி கிழக்கு பிராந்திய கமாண்டர் கருணா செயல்படுகிறhர். அதன் மூலம் அவர் தன்னை தானே ஆபத்தான பள்ளத்தில் தள்ளிவிட்டார். அவருக்கு கீழ் இருக்கும் புலிகள் அவரை விட்டு விலகி செல்கிறhர்கள். அவருக்கு உடன் இருப்பவர் களாலே ஆபத்து உள்ளது.

கருணாவின் கீழ் உள்ள மட்டகளப்பு, அம்பாரை ஆகிய மாவட்டங்களை மீண்டும் பிரபாகரன் இயகக்த்தின் கீழ் கொண்டு வருவதற்கு அதிக கவனத்துடன் நடவடிக்கை எடுத்து வருகிறேhம். ரத்தம் சிந்தாது. புலிகளுக்கு ஆபத்து இல்லாது மட்டகளப்பு- அம்பாறையை மீட்போம். அமைதிக்கு பங்கம் விளையாது காப்பாற்றுவோம்.

இவ்வாறு அவர் கூறினார்.

நேற்று கருணா ஆதரவாளர்கள் மட்டகளப்பில் உண்ணாவிரதம் இருந்தனா.; கருணா மீது கூறப்பட்ட துரோகி புகாரை பிரபாகரன் வாபஸ் பெற வேண்டும். கிழக்கு மாகாண தலைவராக கருணாவை ஏற்கவேண்டும். கிழக்கு பிராந்திய பிரச்சினையில் பிரபாகரன் தலையிடக்கூடாது என்றெல்லாம் வற் புறுத்தி அவர்கள் உண்ணா விரதம் இருந்தனர்.

Karuna bombshell: The fall-out

The unprecedented action by LTTE’s Colonel Karuna last week would have shell-shocked the hitherto undisputed Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran who has turned his organization, over a quarter century into a monolithic unit where he enjoyed the status of a god.


In fact Karuna still reveres Prabha as a god, as he made out in a subsequent letter to him, but has possibly lost the fear he had for his ruthless leader.


<span style='color:#da0000'>What could be the reason for this change of attitude?

Could it be a rush of blood? Unlikely, for several reasons, including his dispatching his family to Malaysia two months back.

[b]Intense planning seems to have taken place before the drastic decision was made.

As Karuna continues to stick to his guns, we could not simply dismiss his actions and statements against the "Wanni leadership."


After a week he did not retract his story but has simply said he was not averse to a settlement with the Wanni administration. He continues to take a guard of honour to send a powerful message to the leadership there, address his troops and flex his muscles.


A week has gone by and the northern leadership was unable to silence him.


[b]Where does he draw his strength from? Has he been given an assurance of support from either the Super Power or the Regional Power?The Wanni leadership, which has at least twice last year blasted the international community including the super power and the regional power for interfering and trying to dictates terms to its organisation, has begun a probe ina bid to find a hidden hand behind the whole issue.


Stung by the bug of terrorism and obsessed with democracy, the United States has time and again condemned the LTTE for failing to give an assurance that it was giving up terrorism. The US also castigated the Tigers for a number of politically motivated killings during the ceasefire and more recently the slaying of a candidate, undermining democracy.


India's hatred towards the LTTE is deep-seated and the country certainly made known its opposition to the LTTE's Interim Self Governing Authority demand while entertaining doubts about its intentions to settle for federalism within a united Sri Lanka as pledged.


In his grievances, Karuna had expressed doubts about obtaining justice for his people under the ISGA the LTTE was planning to set up in the North and East. Karuna also castigated the northern leadership for preparing for another bout of war.

If Karuna's revolt continues up to elections, the chances of the TNA bettering its previous performance is bleak while its aim at 22 seats was out of the question. It would end up with 15-17 seats. India was averse to the TNA increasing its clout in the legislature and was even against elections for this reason.

Alternatively, is Karuna taken over by a fresh surge of regionalism, acting on his own steam? He could possibly be, given his military strength, confidence in his command, indispensable military prowess and insulation in his own terrain.

[b]When the news first broke out, most Sri Lankans were so shocked that it took them time to digest, absorb and eventually react.


Knowing how monolithic the LTTE is and given the organization's ability to spring surprises, some even thought the whole story that broke on Wednesday night was a smokescreen or a red herring as another of Prabhakaran's plans was yet to unfold.

This column last Saturday said, "it will be interesting to see whether he (S.P. Thamilselvan who was due to hold a press conference that same day) will try to cover up things or expose Karuna as a traitor to the cause and even sack him. The chances are that (the LTTE) will try to mend fences…"


Thamilselvan, at the behest of Prabhakaran, did everything that Saturday- he described Karuna as a traitor, sacked him, covered up the seriousness of the affair and offered to mend fences by expressing willingness to accept an apology from him.


The Wanni leadership and a section of Tamils have branded Karuna a traitor. But we may ask the pertinent question whether he is a traitor or a freedom fighter to the Tamils of the East who, he believes strongly, have been discriminated by the North. He has modified the Tamil cause calling for a "Southern Tamil Eelam."


Those who consider him a traitor argue that he has damaged the LTTE irreversibly.


To an extent he has, for Karuna's announcement has a tremendous fall-out on the bargaining power of the LTTE at future negotiations, given the dent it has created in the organization's military machine and the political demand for a merged North and East.


The LTTE would no longer be able to go to war as a unified or cohesive force.


But for those nationalists who oppose a political solution to the ethnic conflict let them be reminded that the LTTE could cause havoc using guerilla warfare and terror all over the country.

Recruitment mainly in the East and to an extent in the North would be hampered. Mothers and fathers would think twice whether they have to accept child conscription lying low.

The division between northern and eastern Tamils has once again come to the fore and the work of 20 years of subduing these differences to enable Tamils from the North and East to talk and act with one voice was likely to go down the drain. The worst fall-out being the undermining of the LTTE as the sole representatives of the Tamils after the organization was able to even bring the traditional Tamil political leadership under the aegis of the Tamil National Alliance under its charge.

But, Karuna, who appears to be a true son of the eastern soil would brook no nonsense. He has watched how his people were used as cannon fodder while the northerners were enjoying all the perks and positions in the organisation.


This column last week carried all the grievances expressed by Karuna and hence they need not be repeated for want of space.


What needs repetition however is my call to address the grievances spelled out by Karuna as any lasting peace will require a solution to the issues raised by all communities particularly in the East. We have the grievances of the Muslims and Sinhalese who account for a third each of the population in the region. Now, we have the eastern Tamils through Karuna demanding justice and not wanting the north to lord it over them.


After all if it is a question of a person's individual rights being violated the present Constitution has provision for redressing these grievances as the chapter on Fundamental Rights is now justiciable. And in practice the Supreme Court has given many a landmark judgment in this area. However, if a community, here the eastern Tamils, feel they are discriminated as a whole we need structures in a new Constitution to address the issues of this and other communities.


The other pertinent question is about the timing.


[b]As the differences of opinion between the northern and eastern faction led by Karuna was there for a while (at least two years) why was the breakaway announced barely three weeks before the April 2 general elections?


Is it that the best time to draw the attention of the people and the organisation was in the run- up to polls? Or as I surmised last week did Karuna get wind of a move to sideline him further forcing him to pre-empt the action? The latest UTHR report too talks on the same lines.


Another theory has it that the LTTE was after Karuna for alleged embezzling of funds forcing him to act swiftly to counter a possible move.


Theories apart, Karuna might have military prowess and the sworn support of his men, but he needs money to carry on and funds are tightly controlled by the Wanni leadership, as I said last week.


Some one or some group will have to pump money for the group's survival lest it end up like any other former Tamil militant group.</span>

தமிழர் நெஞ்சு கனக்கிறது!

தமிழர்களின் நெஞ்சை எரிக்கின்ற நிகழ்வுகள் தொடர்கதையாகி விட்டன. கடந்து செல்லும் இந்த ஒருசில நாட்கள், ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் தூக்கமற்ற இரவுகளாகவும், இனந்தெரியாத துன்ப உணர்வுள்ள பகற்பொழுதுகளாகவும், முகட்டை வெறித்துப் பார்க்கும் ஒருவித இருளடைந்த எதிர்காலத்தின் அறிகுறி போலவும் கடந்து செல்கின்றன.

~தமிழனைக் காட்டிக் கொடுத்த தமிழன்| என்ற கதை பழைய கதைதான், ஆனால் தமிழனுக்கெதிராகத் தமிழனே உரிமை கேட்டு, இறுதியாகக் கனிந்து வந்துள்ள பெரும்பான்மைத் தமிழினப் பலத்தை மீண்டும் கூறுபோட, ஒரு தமிழனே முடிவெடுத்துள்ளமை, ஈழத்தமிழர் நெஞ்சங்களில் தாங்க முடியாத சோகத்தையும் வேதனையையும் உருவாக்கியுள்ளது.

இது பொய்யாக இருந்துவிடக் கூடாதா, யார் எதிரிகள் என்பதைப் பாPட்சிக்க நாம் அரங்கேற்றிய நாடகம் என்று கருணா கூறி, மீண்டும் தலைவருடன் வந்து இணைந்து விடமாட்டாரா, கருணா சற்று இறங்கிவந்து பொதுமன்னிப்பை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள மாட்டாரா, ஈழத்தமிழர்களுக்கெல்லாம் பலத்த நம்பிக்கை தர கருணா கனிவான இரு வார்த்தை சொல்லி களத்தில் தலைவரைச் சந்தித்து சச்சரவுளுக்குச் சமரசம் செய்து கொள்ள மாட்டாரா என்று ஒவ்வொரு ஈழத் தமிழனின் நெஞ்சிலும் ஆயிரம் கேள்விகள்.

தியாகம் செய்தது மொத்தத் தமிழினமும் தான். இதில் எந்தப் பகுதி அதிகம் செய்தது என்று பங்கு போட்டுப் பார்க்கும் நேரம் இதுவல்ல. ~நாமார்க்கும் குடியல்லோம்| என்பது மொத்தத் தமிழினத்திற்குமான ஒரு விருதுவாக்குத்தான். இதிலே இரண்டு தமிழினக் குடிகள் தமக்கிடையே பலப்பாPட்சை பார்க்க கருணா என்ற ஒரு தமிழ்மகன் களம் அமைத்துக் கொடுத்திருப்பது தமிழர் வரலாற்றில் கறை படிந்த காலமாக என்றும் பதிந்திருக்கும் என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை.

கருணா கூறியிருப்பது போல், வடக்குக்கு மட்டும் அதிக உரிமைகளைப் பெறுவது தேசியத் தலைமையின் விருப்பாக இருந்திருந்தால், வடக்கை மட்டும் தனியாகப் பிரித்துப் பெறுவதற்கு இந்த 20 வருடகால ஈடிணையில்லா இழப்புக்கள் அவசியாமாகியிருக்காது. வடக்கை மட்டும் தனியாகப் பிரித்து, தமிழர் உரிமைகளைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்வதற்கு கடந்த காலத்தில் பல வாய்ப்புக்கள் தானாக உவந்தளிக்கப்பட்டன. அத்தனை வாய்ப்புக்களையும் துச்சமென மதித்துத் தூக்கியெறிந்து, பல ஒப்பந்தங்களையும் நிராகரித்து, இத்தனை காலம் போராடி, இறுதியில் இப்போது இடைக்கால நிர்வாக அலகுவரை இழுத்து வந்ததற்கு ஒரேயொரு காரணம் கிழக்கும் இணைந்த விடுதலை வேண்டும் என்ற ஒற்றை நோக்கம் மட்டுமே. இதிலே எந்தச் சந்தர்ப்பத்திலும் இரண்டாம் கருத்து தேசியத் தலைமைக்கு இருந்ததே இல்லை.

கிழக்கில் போராட்டத்தைப் பலப்படுத்த, விடுதலைப் புலிகள் இழந்தவை கொஞ்ச நஞ்சமல்ல. இந்த இழப்புக்கள் பற்றி கருணாவைவிட அதிகமாய்த் தெரிந்தவர் யாரும், அந்த அமைப்பிலேகூட இல்லை. கிழக்கில் வாழும் தமிழர்களின் விடுதலையை, சேர்த்தே பெற்று விடுவது மட்டும்தான் ~மரபுவழி வடகிழக்குத் தமிழர் தாயகம்| அமைக்க ஒரேவழி என்பதில் தேசியத் தலைவர் அசைக்க முடியாத நம்பிக்கை வைத்திருந்தார் என்பதை கருணா உட்பட யாரும் மறுக்க முடியாது.

ஈழத்தில் உதித்த, செயற்பட்ட எந்த இயக்கமும், கிழக்கில் காலு}ன்றி செயற்பட முடியாமற் போனமைக்கு, கிழக்கில் இருந்த யதார்த்தமான களநிலைச் சிக்கல்களே காரணம். முஸ்லிம்-சிங்களம்-தமிழ் என்ற மும்முனை மக்கள் களம், ~புட்டும் தேங்காய்ப்பூவும்| போல் முஸ்லிம்-தமிழ் கிராமங்களின் பூளோகவியற் கட்டுமானம், எல்லைப்புற கட்டாயக் குடியேற்றங்கள், எல்லைகளைப் பாதுகாப்பதிலுள்ள இராணுவ மற்றும் பாதுகாப்புச் சிக்கல்கள், இவற்றுடன், கிழக்கில் இயங்கக்கூடிய கிளை அமைப்பினருக்கான நிர்வாகத்தை நெறிப்படுத்திப் பேணுவதில் இருக்கக்கூடிய இழுபறிகள், போராளிகளையும் ஆயுதங்களையும் கிழக்கிற்கு அனுப்புவதிலும் திரும்ப எடுப்பதிலும் இருக்கக்கூடிய இராணுவ-காவலரண் சிரமங்கள் என்று இந்தப் பட்டியல் நீண்டுசெல்லும்.

இருந்தும், விடுதலைப் புலிகள் என்ற அமைப்பினர் மட்டும், பலத்த சிரமங்களுக்கும், சிக்கல்களுக்கும் முகம்கொடுத்தும், எந்தக் காரணம் கொண்டும், எத்தனை இழப்புக்கள் நேர்ந்தும், கிழக்கிலிருந்து பின்வாங்காது, கிழக்கின் தமிழர் தாயகத்தை தாங்கொணா இழப்புக்களுக்கு மத்தியில் பாதுகாத்து, விடுவித்தார்கள். விடுதலைப் புலிகள் அமைப்பினர் கிழக்கில் சீரிய நிர்வாகத்தின் கீழ், கட்டுக்கோப்பாக எல்லைகளைப் பாதுகாத்து, தமிழர்களின் பாரம்பரிய தாயகத்தை மீட்டெடுக்க முயற்சித்திருக்காவிடில், இன்று கிழக்கில் மூன்றிலொரு பகுதிகூட தமிழருக்கு மிஞ்சியிருக்க வாய்ப்பில்லை என்பதை அகத்தனை தமிழர்களும் ஏற்றுக் கொள்வார்கள்.

இத்தகைய சீரிய நிர்வாகத்திற்கு கருணாவின் பங்களிப்பு பாரிய அளவில் இருந்திருக்கிறது என்பதை யாரும் மறுக்க முடியாது. கருணா என்ற ஒரு தனிமனிதனால் மட்டுமல்ல, தேசியத் தலைமையின் கீழ் உருவாக்கப்பட்டிருந்த சீரிய நிர்வாகத்தின் கீழ் மட்டுமே, இது சாத்தியமானது என்பது நிதர்சனமான உண்மை. இதற்குப் பங்களித்த பலரில் கருணாவும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க ஒருவர் என்பது நிஐம்.

கருணா பிரிந்து செல்ல எண்ணியிருப்பதற்குப் பல காரணங்கள் இருக்கலாம். சிலவேளை அது நியாயமானதாகக் கூட இருக்கலாம். அவர் அப்படி நினைத்ததோ, முடிவெடுத்ததோ, செயற்பட்டதோ கூட துரோகமுமல்ல. அது ஒரு தனிமனித உரிமை தான். ஆனால், கருணா எடுத்த அந்த முடிவை, இத்தனை காலப் போராட்டத்தின் இறுதியில், ஈழத் தமிழர்களுக்கு ஒரு ஆகக்குறைந்த விடுதலையின் அறிகுறிகள் தென்படும் நிலையிலுள்ள தற்போதைய சமாதான சூழலில், கருணா எடுத்திருப்பது தான் துரோகம். கருணா எடுத்த முடிவு துரோகமானதல்ல, ஆனால் எடுத்திருக்கின்ற நேரம் துரோகமிழைத்தமைக்கு சமனானது.

கருணா இழைத்துள்ள இந்த ~தவறான நேரம்| கருதிய துரோகம் விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்கோ அதன் தலைமைக்கோ எதிரானதல்ல. கருணா செய்துள்ள ‘தவறான நேரம்’ கருதிய துரோகம் மொத்தத் தமிழினத்தின் விடுதலைக்குமே எதிரான துரோகமாகவே கணிக்க வேண்டியுள்ளது.

கருணா என்ற ஒரு தனிமனிதன், கிழக்கிற்கு மட்டுமல்ல வடக்கிற்கும் சேர்த்து நிறையவே தியாகம் செய்துள்ளார். அதற்கு அத்தனை தமிழர்களும் கடமைப்பட்டிருக்கிறோம். அதேவேளை, வே.பிரபாகரன் என்ற ஒரு தனிமனிதன் மட்டுமல்ல, அவருக்குப் பின்னே அணிவகுத்துள்ள அத்தனை போராளிகளும் கூட, அதேயளவு தியாக சிந்தையுடனேயே இன்றுவரை தமிழீழத்தின் வடக்கும் கிழக்கும் இணைந்த ஒட்டுமொத்தத் தாயகத்தின் வெற்றிக்காக நிறையவே தியாகம் செய்துள்ளார்கள்.

இதிலே யாருடைய தியாகம் நிறை கூடியது என்று படியிலிட்டு அளந்து பார்க்கும் நேரம் இதுவல்ல. கருணா உட்பட, அத்தனை போராளிகளின் குருதியிலும் தியாகத்திலும் உயிரிலும் எழுதப்பட்டதே தற்போது மலர்ந்து வருகின்ற நிரந்தர சமாதானம். இந்த ஒரு எல்லையைத் தொடுவதற்கான பயணமாகவே கடந்த பல வருடங்கள் எல்லோரும் ஒன்றிணைந்து முள்ளிலும் கல்லிலும் ரணம் சிந்திப் போராடினோம். எல்லைக்கு அருகில் வந்துநின்று, எல்லையைத் தொடுவது நீயா நானா என்று போட்டி போட நினைப்பது, அல்லது எல்லையை இருவரும், இருவேறு நேரத்தில் தொடுவோம் என்று அங்கே வாளெடுத்துப் போர் தொடுப்பது, மொத்தத் தமிழினத்தின் நிரந்தரக் கனவிலும் நம்பிக்கையிலும் மண் அள்ளிப்போடும் முயற்சியாகவே முடிந்து விடும்.

கிழக்கை மட்டும் வென்றெடுக்கும் தனியான போராட்டமோ, வடக்கை மட்டும் வென்றெடுக்கும் தனியான போராட்டமோ, தமிழினத்தின் ஒட்டுமொத்த வெற்றியைப் பெற்றுத் தரப்போவதில்லை. இது அவசியமற்ற ஒரு பிரதேசவாரியான உணர்வுப்பிழம்பு மட்டுமே. இந்த அவசியமற்ற குழப்பநிலை, எதிரிகள் பாசறையைப் பலப்படுத்தவே வழியமைக்கும் என்பதை எந்தத் தமிழரும் மறந்து விடக்கூடாது.

இப்போது எழுந்துள்ள தமிழனுக்கெதிரான தமிழனின் போராட்டம் யாருக்குமே நன்மை பயக்கப் போவதில்லை. இதிலே கருணா என்ற ஒரு தனிமனிதனை, சுற்றி நின்று சுட்டுவிரல் காட்டி, குற்றப்பத்திரிகை வாசிப்பதை நிறுத்தி, ஒட்டுமொத்தத் தமிழினமும் இணைந்து, அழுத்தம் கொடுத்து, தேசியத் தலைமையுடன் கருணா நேரடியாகச் சந்தித்து, சச்சரவுகளைப் பேசித் தீர்த்துக் கொள்ளும் ஒரு ஐனநாயக மரபை உருவாக்கிக் கொடுப்பதே நடைமுறைச் சூழலுக்கு உகந்ததாகப் படுகிறது.

சர்வதேச ஊடகங்கள், இந்த இழுபறிகளை சுயலாபங்களுக்காக தவறாகப் பிரச்சாரம் செய்யாது, சூழ்நிலை கருதி அமைதி காப்பது மிகவும் அவசியமானது. இன மத தலைமைகளுடன், கிழக்கிலும் வடக்கிலுமுள்ள அறிவுஐPவிகளும், புலம்பெயர் நாடுகளிலுள்ள நலன்விரும்பிகளும், ஏனைய வெளிநாட்டு பிரதிநிதிகளும், அத்துடன் அனைத்து உள்நாட்டு பிறநாட்டு ஊடகங்களும், கருணாவை மீண்டும் தேசியத் தலைவருடன் சமரசம் செய்துகொண்டு, தற்போது கனிந்துவந்துள்ள இறுதிச் சந்தர்ப்பத்தை, மொத்தத் தமிழினத்தின் நிரந்தர நன்மை கருதி, ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள வழிசெய்யுமாறு அழுத்தம் கொடுப்பதே அவசியமான பணியாக விரிந்து கிடக்கிறது.

மட்டக்களப்பு ஆயரும், கிழக்கின் அறிவுஐPவிகள் பலரும் இந்தப் பணியை ஆரம்பித்துள்ளார்கள். இதற்கு அனைவரும் பூரண ஆதரவு கொடுத்து, மீண்டும் ஒன்றுபட்ட வடக்கும் கிழக்கும் இணைந்த தமிழர்களின் மரபுவழித் தாயகத்தை உறுதிசெய்ய இணைந்து குரல் கொடுப்போம், வழி சமைப்போம்.

LTTE, renegade rebels point gun at each other on bank of a river

Armed rival factions of Tamil Tiger rebels were face-to-face on the banks of a river dividing an area held by a breakaway group, the main guerrilla movement said here yesterday.
The leader of the political wing of the main Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), S. Thilak, said their fighters were poised against the faction of regional commander V. Muralitharan in the adjoining Batticaloa district.

"Both sides have their cadres camping on the two banks of the Verugal river that marks the district border," Thilak told reporters here after talks with a visiting Norwegian peace envoy, Erik Solheim.

Thilak said although the two factions were facing each other across the river, there had been no fighting between the two groups, which, according to the military, were within small-arms range of each other.

Both sides have sought to play down fears of an internecine war, but government forces have been placed on alert to avoid getting dragged into a fresh conflict.

The military here said it was concerned after hearing explosions overnight from an area held by the Tigers but that the blasts later turned out to be a rebel training exercise.

Norwegian envoy Solheim was visiting Trincomalee, 260 kilometres (160 miles) northeast of the capital Colombo, as part of a previously arranged visit to review the Oslo-arranged ceasefire between the Colombo government and Tigers.

Solheim told reporters after his talks with Thilak that they were keeping out of the internal rift within the LTTE, which entered Norwegian-brokered peace talks with the Colombo government in September 2002.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers admitted yesterday for the first time that a renegade rebel had fighters under his command but warned he was pushing himself into a "dangerous corner."

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) said eastern commander V. Muralitharan, who broke away from the guerrillas last week, had a fighting force but insisted his support was declining.

Earlier, the LTTE's main leadership based in the island's north, maintained that Muralitharan, better known by his military name Karuna, was acting alone and had no backing among Tiger guerrillas.

"Cadres under Karuna's command are distancing (themselves) and deserting him gradually," the LTTE's northern-based political leader S.P. Thamilselvan was quoted as saying by the Tamilnet.com website.

"Karuna is increasingly facing danger from among his own group of cadres."

Mr.Sivagnanam Karikalan, a senior leader of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam from the East who was close to the renegade former Eastern commander of the LTTE, Mr. Karuna, in an interview with the Australian Tamil Broadcasting Corporation (ATBC) Friday disclosed for the first time that the Batticaloa crisis was precipitated when LTTE leadership summoned Karuna to Vanni after discovering financial irregularities and receiving allegations of questionable conduct. Fearing disciplinary action Karuna defied Vanni command and took unilateral action to split, Karikalan said.

Karikalan spoke to the ATBC from Vanni detailing how Karuna, who earned the admiration of the Tamil people and the LTTE leader Pirapaharan for his military prowess, gradually drifted into taking actions in his self interest, that finally brought him into direct conflict with the LTTE leadership. Karuna was one of most trusted commanders and held in high esteem by leader Pirapaharan, Karikalan said.

"Only recently Karuna started complaining about the step-motherly treatment the Batticaloa-Amparai region was receiving from Vanni leadership. He seemed to have already taken a decision to split when we realized that Karuna was taking actions that are inimical to the movement.

"Under the pretext of sending some of us for training, he used that space to make changes to the command hierarchy under him. He took control of finances, the meals section and appointed people loyal to him in key military positions.

"During this period a fighter discovered Karuna embezzling huge amounts of movement's funds. Although Karuna tried to discipline the fighter, he managed to escape to Vanni and informed the leadership of Karuna's financial improprieties. Karuna's driver, who also knew of the misuse of funds, died a week later. Although fever was claimed as the cause of his death, Batticaloa-Amparai commanders were shocked to learn later that he was poisoned .

"Karuna was further embarrassed by public knowledge of allegations related to his improper conduct.

"When the leadership in Vanni became aware of these violations, leader Pirapaharan summoned him to Vanni. Karuna, fearing reprimand and possible disciplinary action refused to go; instead he asked for an emissary be sent from Vanni to see him.

"Also Karuna sent his wife and children to Malaysia recently and told his commanders that LTTE leader was aware of where his family was and that he [Karuna] would not do anything without the leader's knowledge. We now realize the reason behind this planned move by Karuna.

"Tamil people in Batticaloa-Amparai are struggling to figure out why the renegade commander, who was very close to the LTTE leader could not raise his accusations directly with Pirapaharan, Karikalan said.

"Karuna through his foreign visits had the opportunity to come into contact with foreign forces keen on subverting the Tamil National struggle. Through introductions to Karuna these elements had the means to assess the unique position Karuna had in the movement and military strength under his command. It is highly probable that these external forces, exploiting his selfish motives, bought him over," said Karikalan.

Karikalan also said that significant resources are needed to maintain the cadres and military equipment. This fact reinforces the view that a foreign force hostile to Tamil struggle, must have promised support, Karikalan added.

Karikalan said that certain segments of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) also appear to be collaborating with Karuna. Large troop movements within the Batticaloa-Amparai district of cadres loyal to Karuna cannot proceed without the support of the SLA, Karikalan alleged.

<b>Sangaree Disappointed With Solheim's Snub </b>

Anandasangaree has expressed his disappointment that the Norwegian Peace Envoy Erik Solheim did not meet with him in Jaffna during his visit to the peninsula. Sollheim and Norwegian Ambassador Hans Brakstar who was Jaffna on Thursday met with the Army and held discussions with the political wing leader of the LTTE Thamil Chelvan in Killinochchi. The Norwegian delegation also met t with representatives of the Muslim community.
Anandasangaree said out of ten groups fielding candidates in Jaffna, only 3 were serious campaigners and he was one and questioned why Solheim did not find it fit to meet with him. . The TULF leader said that groups in Jaffna were blaming him for the split within the LTTE saying that he had a hand in influencing rebel eastern commander Karuna to breakaway from the LTTE. He said that the allegations were baseless and he did not have even the slightest idea of Karuna's existence before the split.

Anandasangaree pointed out that the LTTE were using around 48 vehicles without number plates which was one among many violations of the ceasefire agreement and he was hoping to bring it to the attention of Solheim if he had met him. The TULF leader said " I had so many things to duscuss with him. I am sure he knew that and avoided me" He added that his election campaign was carried out mainly through the media as his life was under threat from the LTTE.

கலகத்துக்குக் காரணமான அந்தக் கடிதத்தில் கர்னல் கர்ணா அப்படி என்னதான் எழுதியிருக்கிறார்? தமிழீழத்துறை பொறுப்பாளர்களாக சமீபத்தில் நியமிக்கப்பட்ட முப்பதுக்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்களில் ஒருவர்கூட மட்டக்களப்பு _ அம்பாறை பிரதேசத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் அல்ல. விடுதலை இயக்கத்தில் இப்பிரதேச மக்களின் தியாகம் மறைக்க முடியாதது. இந்தப் பிரதேசத்தைச் சேர்ந்த 4550 பேர் போரில் வீரமரணம் அடைந்துள்ளனர். இவர்களில் 2248 வீரர்கள் யாழ்ப்பாணம் பகுதியில் நடைபெற்ற போரில் வீரமரணம் அடைந்துள்ளனர். இந்நிலையில், இப்பிரதேசத்துக்குப் பிரதிநிதித்துவம் இல்லாததால், மற்ற பொறுப்பாளர்களை நீக்கி, தங்களின் நேரடிக் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் இயங்கவே விரும்புகிறோம் என்று அக்கடிதத்தில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளாராம்.

இந்தச் சம்பவத்திற்குப் பின்னர், பிரபாகரனின் மிகுந்த நம்பிக்கைக்குரியவராகத் திகழ்ந்தார் கர்ணா. இயக்கத் தலைமைக்கும் மாத்தையாவுக்கும் இடையே கருத்து வேறுபாடு வந்தபோது, அவரைக் கொல்லச் சொல்லி கர்ணாவிடம்தான் அஸைன்மெண்ட் கொடுக்கப்பட்டதாம். அதை அவர் கச்சிதமாகச் செய்து முடித்தார் என்றும் சொல்கிறார்கள். இதுபோல பல தண்டனைகளை கர்ணா நிறைவேற்றியுள்ளாராம்.

இதுபோன்ற கருத்து வேறுபாடுகள் விடுதலைப்புலிகள் இயக்கத்தில் ஏற்படுவது சகஜம் என்கிறார்கள். தளபதி கிட்டு, ஒரு காலை இழந்ததுகூட தலைமையுடன் ஏற்பட்ட மோதலால்தான் என்று சொல்பவர்களும் உண்டு. அப்போதெல்லாம் விடுதலைப்புலிகள் யுத்த களத்தில் இருந்ததால், இந்த விஷயங்கள் வெளியே தெரியாமல் போனது. இப்போது போர் நிறுத்தம் ஏற்பட்டிருப்பதால் அனைவருக்கும் வெளிப்படையாகத் தெரிகிறது என்றும் சொல்கிறார்கள்.

இயக்கத் தலைமைக்கும் கர்ணாவுக்கும் இடையே கடந்த ஓராண்டுக்கு மேலாகவே உரசல் இருந்து வந்ததாகவும் தகவல்கள் சொல்கின்றன. கடந்த ஓராண்டுக்கு முன்பு தலைமையகத்துக்கு வருமாறு கர்ணாவுக்கு அழைப்பு அனுப்பியுள்ளனர். அப்போது அவர் தன்னுடன் ஆயிரம் வீரர்களை அழைத்துச் சென்று, தனது பலத்தை தலைமைக்குக் காட்டினாராம். இந்தச் சம்பவத்துக்குப் பின்னர் விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் உளவுப்படையினரால் கர்ணாவின் ஒவ்வொரு அசைவும் கண்காணிக்கப்பட்டு, அப்போது அவருக்கும் இலங்கை ராணுவத் தளபதிகளுக்கும் இடையே உள்ள தொடர்பு கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டு, தலைமையிடம் சொல்லப்பட்டதாம். இதனை முன்கூட்டியே கண்டுபிடித்த கர்ணா, தன்னை முழுமையாக வலுப்படுத்திக்கொண்டதாகச் சொல்கிறார்கள். இதுவெல்லாம்தான் தலைமை இவர்மீது நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கக் காரணம் என்கிறார்கள்.

கர்ணா துரோகம் செய்துவிட்டார் என்று விடுதலைப்புலிகள் இயக்கம் குற்றம்சாட்டிய போதிலும், அவர் செய்த துரோகம் என்னவென்பதை வெளிப்படையாகச் சொல்ல மறுக்கின்றனர். இதுவே கர்ணாவின் பலம் என்கிறார்கள். இப்போதைக்கு கர்ணாவுக்குப் பொது மன்னிப்பு வழங்கத் தயாராக இருப்பதாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்டாலும்கூட, அவர் எப்போது வேண்டுமானாலும் கொல்லப்படலாம் என்கிற அச்சமும் நிலவுகிறது. இந்நிலையில் கர்ணா, தன்னைக் கொல்ல விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் தலைமை இரண்டு தற்கொலைப் படைகளை அனுப்பியிருப்பதாகச் சொல்லியுள்ளார்.

புலிகள் இயக்கத்திற்குள் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள மோதல் வடக்கு, கிழக்கில் உள்ள தமிழர்களிடையே பெரும் கவலையை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. இவர்களுக்கிடையே ஒற்றுமை ஏற்பட வேண்டும் என்று அங்குள்ள தேவாலயங்களில் ஜெபம் செய்யப்படுகிறது. கர்ணாவை மீண்டும் விடுதலைப்புலிகள் அமைப்பில் சேர்த்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று திருக்கோவில் பிரதேசத்தில் மிகப்பெரிய ஊர்வலமும் நடந்துள்ளது. ஊர்வலத்தில் வந்தவர்கள், கர்ணா செய்த தவறு என்ன? என்கிற பதாகைகளை ஏந்தி வந்துள்ளனர்.
