SLMM Respect All Flags- Including the LTTE Flag
Bandula Jayasekara in Colombo, SLT 12.10 P.M Friday 3 October. The Spokeswoman of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission says that the SLMM would pay due respect to flags of different organizations including the flag of the LTTE and it is not an organization that has the authority or the role to recognize flags. She says that the Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, Tryggve Tellefsen did not justify the hoisting of LTTE flags on public buildings in Government controlled areas. The Spokeswoman adds that the SLMM has made a ruling about hoisting of the LTTE flag on public buildings and in public places in Government controlled areas and the ruling states clearly that such hoisting of the LTTE flag is a violation of the Ceasefire Agreement.
The SLMM says that it was necessary to make a clarification due to inaccurate news coverage and wrong quotes of some media of the meeting between the SLMM and the political leadership of the LTTE in Killinochchi on 28 September. Reports quoting the The Voice of Tigers said that the SLMM head said that he would always recognize the LTTE flag
