British Parliamentarian Lord Aschcroft Rt. Hon. Michael Ancram QC MP who was in Sri Lanka last week flew to Jaffna on Friday (05 September 2003) to meet with civil administration and military authorities.
Rt. Hon. Ancram before his brief meet with Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General Parami Kulathunge RSP USP, towards the latter part of his itinerary, had a series of meetings with Government Agent for Jaffna, Divisional Secretariat Officials in Jaffna, District Heads, Members of civil society coordinating rehabilitation and development work in Jaffna, etc.
He also visited and spoke to a cross section of the people in Muslim areas, old British Kachcheri, Fort, Chavakachcheri and several other areas before he met the Press at the District Secretariat. The visiting delegate was briefed on the current security situation in Jaffna by the Security Forces Commander in Jaffna before he left for Colombo the same evening.
