Alladin Hussein in Colombo, August 28, 2003 12.10 am. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is hoping to get the expertise of British DNA experts to help identify bodies from the mass grave of Chemmani.
A CID official said that they were hoping to make use of DNA laboratories in the United Kingdom to help identify the bodies. The department has decided to examine blood samples taken from relatives of those reported missing.

It is reported that the blood samples have been referred to the Yorkshire University in Britain for DNA testing. The reports from the testing are expected to be released by end of October.

In 1999, the mass grave at Chemmani in the northern Jaffna peninsula, where the bodies of hundreds of people who 'disappeared' when in Sri Lankan military custody are said to be buried, was excavated.
