Annan's Lanka visit to include LTTE controlled areas
Colombo, Jan 4 (UNI) UN Secretary General Koffi Annan will visit the areas of Northern Wani region controlled by the Tamil Tiger rebels during his two-day official visit to the tsunami hit Sri Lanka scheduled this weekend, LTTE sources said this evening.
''Yes, he will be visiting our areas to see the large-scale death and destruction caused by tsunami waves,'' the sources said.
Mr Annan is scheduled to visit Colombo on a two-day official visit after attending the special summit of ASEAN leaders to be held in Jakarta on Thursday.
During his stay in Colombo, the UN Secretary General will be visiting some of the hardest-hit areas in the country, where the death-toll had crossed 30,000 while nearly 4000 people are still missing.
Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State Colin Powell is also expected to visit the Sri Lankan capital on Friday. His visit will coincide with the arrival of 1500 US Marine troops backed by huge helipad assault ship, Bon Homme Richard and at least 20 helicopters, to join the international task force in carrying out the relief operations.
