Government says military still watchful
J. S. Nalin in Colombo, June 23, 2004, 9.23 p.m.. Deputy Defence Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake today noted that despite the war being over in the country, the armed forces were still watchful. Sri Lankas military is continuing to be in good form, even though the country has been enjoying a two and a half year long ceasefire Agreement with the LTTE, Wickremanayake told reporters.
He made these comments during an inspection tour to the Colombo Military Hospital this morning. Commenting about the whereabouts of LTTE renegade Leader Karuna, the Deputy Defence Minister denied accusations that the military was giving protection to Karuna. He charged that mysterious groups were spreading such allegations against the military and the government to harm the on going peace process
