Armed group destroys NGO vehicles in Jaffna

Vehicles belonging to a Non-Governmental Organization engaged in de-mining work in the Jaffna peninsula, were completely or partly damaged when an unidentified armed gang attacked them early morning today. Military spokesman Col. Sumedha Perera said, Six of these vehicles were completely burnt. He also said, attackers, consisting of some twenty men, had assaulted all four security guards on duty at the venue before they set fire to the vehicles. He also said that the total damage is estimated at about US $ 100,000. Other vehicles, parked near the Nallur Kovil, had also been partly or completely damaged.
