Two killed in gunfire on Sri Lankan minister's office
Associated Press, Sat June 5, 2004 08:14 EDT . - - COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - (AP) Two bodyguards of a Sri Lankan junior minister were killed Saturday when gunmen opened fire at his political office near the capital, Colombo, police said.
Sripathi Sooriyarachchi, the deputy minister for sports and youth affairs escaped unhurt, a policeman from Kiribathgoda town, a Colombo suburb said on condition of anonymity.
Sooriyarachchi had been holding a meeting inside the office when the attack took place, he said.
The motive for the attack is unknown and the police have not made any arrests, the policeman added.
