Tamil journalist killed in Sri Lanka
Associated Press, Mon May 31, 2004 02:26 EDT . - - COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - (AP) Unidentified gunmen on Monday shot and killed an ethnic-Tamil journalist in eastern Sri Lanka - , police and his newspaper said. ``He was one of our best correspondents, fearless and did not take sides,'' Ratnasabatathy said of Nadesan, 49, who had worked for the paper, Sri Lanka - 's largest selling Tamil daily, for two decades.
Nadesan is survived by his wife and three children.
There has been unrest in Sri Lanka - 's east since the main Tamil Tiger rebel group, which has signed a cease-fire with the government, crushed a 6,000-strong factional revolt last month. Dozens of people have been killed in the violence.
European cease-fire monitors have warned that the slayings could threaten the fragile peace process.
