We dont want Norway, JVP informs President
Alladin Hussein in Colombo, May 3, 2004, 10.00 p.m.. The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), which is the second largest constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance Government has informed President Chandrika Kumaratunga that India should be given the role as mediators in the peace process, and Norway should be sidelined.
The Daily Mirror reported today Ms. Kumaratunga, is facing a dilemma, following the JVP stand that the Norwegians should be sidelined, and instead the role should be given to Neighbouring India. Ms. Kumaratunga is finding difficulty in making such a drastic turnaround.
The President however is yet to response to the JVP request. Citing reasons for their demand, the JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa is reported to have said that the people are not very satisfied with the Norwegians, as they have failed to play an impartial role in the process. And at many instances have sided with the LTTE, even when the LTTE was wrong.
