Over 1000 Cadres In Cleared Areas- Karunas Whereabouts Not Known

Military officials say nearly 1500 cadres who were under LTTE's renegade, Eastern Commander, Karuna Amman had come to cleared areas today but, they were yet to hear anything about the 4000 odd cadres Karuna claims to be having under his control. Immediately after he broke off with Prabhakaran, Karuna claimed that he has 6000 LTTE cadres under his command. Military officials said, " It is difficult to fathom what had happened to them. There is no communication from them" Karunas whereabouts are also not known though the rumour in Batticaloa is that he had flown out of the area to an unknown destination. However, military officers in the area said that they were not in a position to comment on the rumours that were spreading in the area. Intelligence sources say that though they were in a position to intercept communications from Prabhakarans troops they were unable to listen to any communication from Karunas faction. Reports also said that Prabhakarans group had blocked Karunas communication network before they commenced the attack early Friday.
