Karuna Says Prabhakaran Cannot Force a Solution on the East

(by Bandula Jayasekara in Karuna's Thoppigala Camp) LTTE's rebel eastern commander Karuna Amman says that LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran cannot force a solution on the east and only Karuna has the responsibility to speak on behalf of his people's aspirations and to represent them. He told 'The Island' newspaper "I can tell you openly and clearly that the solution to our people in the east cannot be inflicted or forced by Prabhakaran." He said that he wants a stake in any future peace talks between the government and the LTTE.
Commenting on the new Freedom Alliance government, Karuna told 'The Island "It is a government elected by the people. I hope that they would try to fulfill the aspirations of the people who elected them. He expressed hope that the new government would approach the issues concerning his people in a positive way. LTTE's eastern commander described the new Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapakse as a good person who got long experience as a politician of Sri Lanka. Karuna said, "We think that it is a good appointment."
