TNA neutral
The lead candidate of the Tamil National Alliance which has recorded a landslide victory in the North and East, said TNA has opted to play a neutral role and will not be aligning itself with any party from the South. Mavai Senathiraja said that the TNA would play a neutral role with regard to the formation of a new government in the South. However, Senathiraja told the Sunday Observer that the TNA would first consult with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam on working out its future political strategy.
"We have to talk with our members elected from the entire North and the East region to decide on the stance with regard to the new government in the South. TNA has already said that it would not support any party and would remain neutral. We will consider giving our support to a party on the basis of their stance towards the peace process," Senathiraja said.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress sources said that it was too early to speak on the stance to be taken by the party.
The SLMC entered into an agreement with the UNP prior to the polls. Therefore nothing could be decided immediately.
The party will meet and think about its plans once the elected SLMC members and the party stalwarts meet in Colombo in a couple of days, sources said.
