Police decides not to impose curfew due to the prevailing peaceful environment
Alladin Hussein in Colombo, April 2, 2004, 11.39 pm. Inspector General of Police Indra de Silva today announced that due to the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the country, there is no necessary to impose curfew. He also said that even though there had been some disturbances in the North and East province and a few other districts, the situation has seemingly returned to calm after the polling ended at 4.00 p.m. Analysts pointed out that this is one of the most calmest elections ever in recent history.
He however indicated the possibility of curfew in several areas in the North East province, if the situation takes a turn for the worse; however sources from the North East said that the situation is quite peaceful now.
Security has also been tightened at all major areas around the country, to enforce law and order and prevent any unwanted incidents.
