LTTE split to intensify after elections?
Alladin Hussein in Colombo, March 30, 2004, 11.06 pm. Tamil sources have warned that the LTTE split may take a turn for the worst after the April 2, General Election. LTTE Leader Prabhakaran and his Eastern Rebel Leader Karuna Amman will be at each others throat after the conclusion of the April 2, General Election, sources claimed.
Citing reasons for their claim, they pointed out to the Lanka Academic that, If Prabhakaran wants to he can easily bump off Karuna even today, but they have been adviced by the peace makers to wait till the end of the elections. These peacemakers have their own agenda, and one of it is to get the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) elected to Parliament. If a serious brawl erupts between Prabhakaran and Karuna, the TNA may find it hard to get into Parliament.
He indicated that there could be a slump in votes if a brawl between the two erupts, mainly due to conflicting reports from both groups, and the civilians will be confused then and not sure whom to believe. The aim of these peacemakers is to have the LTTE in Parliament, and if the TNA gets pushed out of the scene (Parliament), so does the LTTE, the sources claimed.
Which is why the LTTE leadership is patiently waiting till the end of the Elections, before they take any serious decisions against their former Eastern Military Commander Karuna.
