Sangaree Complaints to Solheim about LTTE
Bandula Jayasekara in Colombo, SLT 7.00 A.M Tuesday 16 March. TULF leader V. Anandasangaree has told Norwegian Special Envoy Erik Solheim that LTTE's strong-arm tactics in Jaffna would not work and LTTE obstructing his campaign activities in Jaffna will not help the organization to gain proper recognition.
The TULF leader told The Academic " I briefed him about the situation in Jaffna and told him what is happening there. I said that the people of Jaffna should decide on their free will, who they want to vote for. Anandasangaree described the meeting with Solheim as very cordial. However Solheim had not responded to Sangaree's observations. The TULF leader added " He listened to me" Anandasangaree who is contesting as an independent candidate from Jaffna met with Solheim, Norwegian Ambassador Hans Brastkar and member of the Norwegian peace delegation Lisa Golden at the Norwegian embassy in Colombo last evening.
Last week the TULF leader expressed his disappointment that Norwegian Peace Envoy Erik Solheim did not meet with him in Jaffna during his visit to the peninsula. He said the LTTE was using 48 vehicles without number plates, and continued to intimidate and threaten his candidates and they were violations of the ceasefire agreement. The TULF leaders election campaign is carried out mainly through the media as his life is under threat from the LTTE.
