Karuna cadres burn Tamil dailies

A group of youths believed to be cadres working for the renegade LTTE commander Karuna Thursday morning seized and burnt about four thousand copies of Thursday edition of a Tamil daily THINAKKURAL and about one thousand copies of another daily VIRAKESARI when they were transported to Batticaloa for sale, police said.
A group of persons came in a three-wheeler removed all newspapers parcels from the Batticaloa bus stand and took them to a place near the lagoon and had burnt them, sources said.
The managements of both newspaper establishments have lodged complaints with the Batticaloa Police and the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), sources said.
Several copies of THINAKKURAL were seized and burnt on Tuesday by persons said to be working for the renegade LTTE commander Karuna, sources said.
