Mar 9, 2004, 14:22 [TNS]
The news that LTTE Trincomalee district military commander Colonel Pathuman has been killed in Vanni is a canard to create panic and confusion among Tamil people by some interested parties, LTTE Trincomalee district political head Mr.S.Thilak told TamilNet news service on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier on the day the Sri Lankan State run Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) which is under the control of the president now, in its noon news in all three languages, reported that Trincomalee LTTE military commander Colonel Pathuman had been killed in Vanni.
Mr.Thilak speaking to TamilNet from Muttur east said the SLBC report is untrue, malicious and mischievous and has been spread in a planned way to create confusion among Tamils.
He appealed to Tamils "not to believe such reports, which have been spread, with ulterior motive". "Colonel Pathuman has gone to Vanni to meet our national leader as a part of his routine visit once in three months", Mr.Thilak he further said.
Meanwhile Colonel Pathuman himself appeared before the media yesterday and dismissed the renegade leader, Mr Karuna’s allegation that he in under detention by the Tamil Tiger leadership.
Under no circumstances will a single individuals act be allowed to create confusion and dissension among the people who are really sincere to the Tamil Leadership, said Col. Pathuman referring the situation in the East.
Political observers now see the State run media actively getting involved in the internal conflict within the Tiger organization, in favour of the renegade leader.
Even after Pathuman himself personally dismissed, Mr. Karunas allegation on Monday, the state run Daily news reported on Tuesday that Col. Paduman under detention and LTTE senior officials Swarnam, Balaraj and Puleethevan arrived in Trincomalee and taken over the Tiger ranks in Trincomalee.
Unconfirmed reports said the LTTE political chief in Trincomalee, Thilak had been arrested, the daily news further reported. Mr. Thilak himself talked to TamilNet from Muttur in the Eastern Trincomalee district this afternoon and Mr. Puleethevan attended the meeting with the British High Commissioner this morning in Vanni.
The Tamil parries too expressed serious concern regarding the way the state run radio, TV and print media are getting involved in an internal conflict and spreading rumours and unfounded stories to create panic and confusion among the Tamil People.
