There has been a suicide bomb attack on the headquarters of the Sri Lankan army in the capital, Colombo, reports say.
Police say there have been many injured, including the head of the army, Sarath Fonseka.
"A suicide bomb went off near the army hospital aimed at the army commander's vehicle," an army spokesman said, Reuters news agency reports.
He said the attacker was a woman. Tamil Tiger rebels frequently use suicide bombers in their operations.
There has been an increase in violence in Sri Lanka recently and Tamil Tiger rebels last week pulled out of peace talks.
