The Tamil Tigers (LTTE) have announced that they are withdrawing from the scheduled peace talks in Geneva on April 24th and 25th. The reason given is disagreement with the Central Government about travel safety for LTTE leaders.

The leader for the LTTE peace secretariat, S. Puleedevan, says the Tigers are concerned over the safety of a transport by boat of LTTE military leaders.
The transport was to have been carried out by a civilian boat, escorted by Nordic observers, but monitored by the Sri Lankan Navy.

However, the leader of the Nordic Observer Group, Sweden's Ulf Henricsson, says the Tamil Tigers had agreed to let the Sri Lankan Navy monitor the LTTE boat transport.

Only Friday the Sri Lankan government agreed to a request by the Tamil Tigers to postpone the Geneva talks by a few days, to april 24th and 25th.
