LTTE cancels sea travel, SLN violates agreed procedure - Pulidevan

[TamilNet, April 15, 2006 03:55 GMT]
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cancelled the sea-transportation of their Acting Commanders to Eastern district Saturday morning from Vanni after getting on board the ferry. The Tiger officials "spotted suspicious movment of a Sri Lanka Navy attack vessel issuing instructions to the civilian ferry over VHF Marine Radio," said Director of the LTTE Peace Secretariat Mr. S. Pulidevan. "We were forced to cancel the transportation of Acting Commanders at the last moment," Pulidevan said.
"A Sri Lanka Navy Dvora Fast Attack Craft (FAC) was approaching the civilian ferry with the LTTE officials on board," Mr. Pulidevan said.

LTTE officials, except the Acting Commanders, were on board the ferry when the LTTE officials concluded to cancel the travel.

"The boat was receiving instructions from the approaching SLN vessel over the VHF Marine Radio," Mr. Pulidevan said.

The close movement of the SLN attack vessel and the military instructions being issued to the civilian ferry, violated the agreed procedures, he further said.

The Head of SLMM, Maj. Gen. Ulf Henricsson was in Batticaloa to accompany the Batticaloa Special Commander of the LTTE, Col. Bhanu, Pulidevan added.

SLMM officials were on board the ferry.

Further details were not available at the moment.
