Christian youths join in running RSS-sponsored schoolAuthor: Dhananjay Khadilkar

[size=18]Translated from Marathi; my regrets for the awkward language as I attempt a faithful translation. Chandrakant Panse Nasik: Considering the relationship between Christian missionaries and RSS in Poorvanchal, it is natural to think that it would be impossible that Christian youths would pick up a lion's share in running an RSS-sponsored school, and propagate nationalism through this school in the separatist-infested eastern region. This miracle, however, is taking place in Tulum village in Ukharul district of Manipur state. Nationalistic thoughts are being presented by Christian teachers in a school started in the memory of Sangh pracharak of this village, the late Shri Bhayyaji Kane.
A tour of the Maharashtra state for youths from the northeastern region was organized through the 'Bharat Mera Ghar' project. As part of this, five individuals, James Zimik, Father Ring Fami, Shankan, Sailam and Isu and have arrived in Nasik. In the opinion of James Zimik, headmaster of the government-run school, the RSS work of joining people together with the thread of Indian nationalism is praiseworthy. He further added that RSS is not a fundamentalist organization, but an organization contributing for uplifting of society. He answered 'yes' when asked if he was prepared to work in a Sangh school. When asked what was different in the education in his and in missionary schools, he said that although it is not possible to impart to children in his school the concept of 'samganak', teachings of nationalistic tendencies are conferred. He said that he did not know what the missionaries teach or do not teach.
James Zimik said that he was unable to comment on religious conversions and activities of extremists in the Poorvanchal region due to lack of proper information. However, he said in the same tone that development projects in the region are continuously ignored. Transportation facilities do not exist in this region, and situation regarding electricity is also very tough. He said that numerous complaints are not making any difference. The Department of Defense had undertaken an important project of building a 60 km road to connect a remote region to the highway. Until 1992, construction of 30 km was completed. However, not one inch has been added in the last 10 years, he said. He added further that repeated requests to the DoD have made no difference. Villages beyond the highway are covered in darkness, and newspapers become available after 3 days, and sometimes after a week, he said.
When asked about the RSS concept of the Indian church, Zimik said that religion is subsidiary in his view, and that he promotes the concept of Indian nationalism.
