It's hard enough to lose one family member. Imagine losing two at the same time to an 'accident' police believe was deliberate.
Now you have an idea how family and friends of two Toronto brothers felt Wednesday, as they attended the men's funeral.
Hundreds of mourners turned out at a Sheppard Ave. East funeral home to pay tribute to 21-year-old Chandru and 19-year-old Soumiyan Negulasigamany.
Both were run down in Waterloo last Friday in what authorities contend was a deliberate hit and run.
The pair was apparently involved in some kind of confrontation just before the incident and cops are treating their deaths as a double homicide.
Friends recall the victims as terrific 'gentlemen' who both had great futures ahead of them.
'Chandru and Soumi were both very close,' remembers Anitta Satkunarajah. 'They were best friends. <b>Soumi worked very hard and at the same time went to Centennial. But through work he was able to pay for Chandru's classes at the University of Waterloo so this just showed how much unity they had between each other</b>. Both of them were remarkable people.'
Adding to the tragedy is the possibility the killings may never be solved. Police admit they have few clues to go on and no one is in custody in connection to the deadly driving incident.
Friends and family vow the two promising brothers won't be forgotten. They're planning a memorial service for the victims at the corner of Dearborn Place and Columbia Street in Waterloo at 7pm Thursday night.
It's a poignant spot for the observance - it's the same place where the siblings were struck down.
