(31-10-03)Today is the Rememberance day of the last Tamil king of Vanni, Pandara Vanniyan. He was ruler of the large Vanni Tamil territory lying between Jaffna and the Sinhala kingdoms, and was killed in battle with the British 194 years ago in a place called Katsilaimadu. The Pandara Vanniyan Trust fittingly celebrated the memory of this national hero.Today Following the capture of Jaffna, approximately half a million people from Jaffna became internally displaced people over night. They had crossed the Jaffna lagoon in the monsoon rains into the Thenmaraadchy and Vadamaradchi districts and Indian Prime Minister, Indhira Gandhi was assasinated by her own body-gurad.
