I would never marry a Tamil man!
By: Rebecca Arulpragasam
I am a 20-year-old woman and have been living in this country for over seventeen years. I have come across numerous Tamil boys and men; unfortunately all that I've learnt from my encounters is that I never want to marry a Tamil man!
Tamil men are ... how can I put it? Very interesting. You either get the typical Tamil guys who have just stepped of the plane, who don't know a word of English, wear white socks and black shoes, with bushy hair, have a bushy moustache and stare long and hard at every other Tamil person on the street. Or you get the so-called "rude boys", who think they are the badest men around. When in actual fact they are merely just lost little boys. It is extremely hard to find an averagely good-looking Tamil man in this country. Or should I just leave it at Tamil man, forget in this country as even in Sri Lanka they are not any better, in actual fact they are much much worse over there.
Everywhere you go Tamil men continue to behave like they have never seen a pretty Tamil girl before. They stop to stare and make vulgar remarks as you walk
past.
I have come across two main types of Tamil men, the rude boys and the typicals. These so called "rude boys/bad boys/gangsters" or what ever they want to be
known as, are absolute idiots! They go around in big groups to intimidate the public; they talk in a language that no one else understands but themselves. They shorten as many words as they can. For instance, "garms"
means garments. Why not just say clothes? And "down my
manors" means my area or near where I live. Like any one can afford to live in a manor these days! Oh not to forget the famous "she's well buff/tick". What happened to the old fashioned "she's a beautiful women? And they refer to their girlfriends as their bitches! What the heck is that about? They all wear very expensive clothes, which they probably haven't bought from their hard earned money.
On the other hand you get the typical Tamil men who have only been in this country for a short period of time and want to act all British. They wear as much gold
as they can. Once they are here they believe it to be OK to divert from their upbringing back home,வ they throw away their values and behave in an awful manner. It's almost as though they believe it to be the norm to make vulgar comments at passing girls, which I doubt would have been the case back in Sri Lanka. They have absolutely no dress sense at all. After a few years of
being in this country, they some how seem to be able to afford flash cars and live in expensive houses. I for one would love to know their secret as my parents
are still struggling to pay off the mortgage on our very average house.
So I have come to the decision that I will never marry a Tamil man, as there are no suitable ones. I believe it to be far better to marry a white or black man who is genuinely interested in your roots. After all what's in a
colour? These white and black men are so much more civilised and educated then the Tamil men. And they are better looking than any Tamil can ever be. They
also have a far better dress sense. They know how to treat a woman, they respect you for who you are and are not interested in competing with other people status wise. These Tamil folks are so caught up in out doing each other that they forget about what life is really about - fun and enjoyment!
So a message for all you others like me out there, don't listen to what others say, go for it. Grab each day with both hands and do what you really want. After all we are no longer in Sri Lanka. We are in the United Kingdom. We can do as we please, there are no holds barred. Live your lives to the max. Who cares if it's
with another so called Tamilian or not!
