Victim in wrong place at wrong time

Investigators are urging the driver of a getaway vehicle involved in the weekend shooting death of Umathevan Thiyagarajah to step forward and talk to police.
Detective Sergeant Mark Saunders talks to the media
"Now that the dust has settled…I think it’s time you pick a team with respect to where you’re going to go with this," Homicide Squad D/Sgt Mark Saunders said in a stern message to the getaway driver of the black Jeep Cherokee, which is described as an "immaculate" 1998 to 2000 model.
"You now know an occupant of your vehicle has killed somebody and I would urge you to step forward and to contact the police and to let us know what your accounts of this particular event are."
Thiyagarajah, 26, was gunned down in a commercial parking lot at Warden and Finch Aves at about 11:51 p.m. on July 31. An autopsy showed he died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest. Thiyagarajah had no criminal record, police said.

"The family took it as quite a shock, in fact one family member was hospitalized as a result of the news," Saunders said.

He said the investigation "is nothing more than a chance encounter that went terribly wrong."
"These guys just wanted to get out of a parking lot and as a result a young man was killed," he said, adding the victim was a passenger in the vehicle trying to get out of the parking lot via the Warden Ave. exit.

He said Thiyagarajah was travelling with three other friends when they asked the drivers of three vehicles blocking the exit to move.
தியாகராஜா உமாதேவன் அவர் பயணம் செய்யும் போது அவருடன் மூன்று நண்பர்கள் இருந்தனர். அவர்களது வாகனம் வாகனம் வெளியேறும் பகுதியை தடுத்து நின்றது.
One man approached their vehicle and pulled the driver from the car and began beating him. When another of Thiyagarajahs friends exited the vehicle, he too, was assaulted.
Police allege that same man shot Thiyagarajah as he came to the drivers aid.
"He didnt make it," Saunders said of Thiyagarajah, who was shot trying to help his friend.

The shooter is described as a black man, with light skin, 5 9" to 5 10", his hair pulled back in corn-rows, 18 to 20 years old, with a slim build, wearing a long-sleeved white button-down shirt and black dress pants.
The second suspect who initiated the assault is described as a black man, 5 10" to 6, shaved bald head, 25 to 26 years old, clean shaven, muscular build, wearing a short sleeve shirt with a light grey sleeveless vest underneath.
The vehicles are described as a black 1998 to 2000 Jeep Cherokee with tinted windows and shiny rims. The second vehicle may have been a black large GMC SUV, possibly a Yukon. The third vehicle was an older model dark Acura Legend.
"At the time of the murder, there were numerous people present in the parking lot," Saunders said of vehicles that left the scene before officers arrived.

He said anyone who saw similar cars in the area in the late evening hours that night should also call police.
அந்த காரை அன்று மாலை வேளை கண்டவர்களும் காவல்துறைக்கு அழைக்கலாம்.
Investigators are also asking anyone who used the CIBC bank between 11 p.m. and midnight to contact police with any information regarding what they may have seen during that time period.
அது மட்டுமன்றி அன்று இரவு 11 மணிமுதல் நடுநிசி வரை CIBC வைப்பகத்தை பயன்படுத்தியவர்கள் தாங்கள் பார்த்தவற்றை தெரிவிக்கலாம்.
