Injection 'hope' for alcoholics
Alcoholics could be helped to stop drinking by monthly injections of naltrexone, say US scientists.
Trials of 627 people showed jabs could reduce heavy drinking when combined with counselling, the Journal of the American Medical Association said.
Naltrexone is thought to reduce the pleasurable effects associated with drinking by blocking receptors in the brain linked to euphoria.
The jab - the first of its kind - has been welcomed by some experts.
