Tamil Tiger rebels have accused the Sri Lankan security forces of aiding and abetting a breakaway rebel commander.
They say that such actions could undermine the current ceasefire.

The Tigers split in March when their second highest military leader, Colonel Karuna, said he wanted to run the east of the island separately.

But since then, four of the colonel's supporters have defected with what they say are details of his collaboration with the Sri Lankan military.

'Escape from jungle'

The Sri Lankan military spokesman has strenuously denied reports that Colonel Karuna has been helped by the security forces.

But the Tigers have produced four senior female fighters - including the former women's military wing head Nilavini - who say they were with Colonel Karuna when he vanished in April.

They say a Muslim former parliamentarian, Ali Zahir Mowlana, helped them escape from the eastern jungles to the capital.

Mr Mowlana admits he did, but says he acted on humanitarian grounds and had no contact with Colonel Karuna after helping the group get to Colombo.

According to Nilavini, they stayed in the Hilton Hotel in Colombo for four days during which time the leader of a pro-government Tamil militia group, Douglas Devananda, telephoned Colonel Karuna and asked him to join him.

The women fighters say Colonel Karuna told them he had rejected the offer and instead decided to work with army intelligence.

Nilavini says a group, which included Colonel Karuna's wife and three children, his spokesman Varathan and other rebels, stayed in a safe house in Colombo for eight days before settling into another house in the suburb of Nugegoda near the Apollo Hospital.

There the female rebels say Colonel Karuna had a plain clothes bodyguard armed with a pistol and received visits from what they believe were Sri Lankan intelligence officers.

The four women say they asked to be sent back to their families - but instead Colonel Karuna offered to send them to Saudi Arabia as housemaids.

Many of the Tigers' fighters are women

Nilavini said they were kept locked inside the house but cooked meals together and watched television with Colonel Karuna's family.

On this basis of overheard phone calls, the women allege that Colonel Karuna is linked to the recent killings of prominent civilians in the east.

According to Nilavini, on Friday a driver came to collect Colonel Karuna and his family who said they were going to another country for some months but would return to start a political party.

The four women fighters say they escaped and hired a van and drove to rebel territory in the east where they surrendered.

The Tamil Tigers say the women leaders, who were under armed guard during the news conference, will now be demoted to lower ranks as a punishment.

It may be that security surrounding the women was lax because few would have expected them to take the risk of returning to the Tigers who are renowned for killing traitors.

A senior associate of the renegade LTTE commander Mr. Vinayagamoorthy Muraleetharan (Karuna) said Monday that she and other associates of Karuna stayed in a house provided and protected by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in a suburb of Colombo. Ms. Nilavini (Charlie), formerly the commander of the LTTE womens' fighting formations in the Batticaloa-Amparai district who rejoined the tigers on Friday 18 June spoke to the press Monday about the renegade LTTE commander's activities with the SLA since he fled Batticaloa on 11 April.
Three of her female colleagues who returned to the LTTE on Friday were also present at the press meet in the LTTE conference centre Solayakam, about 18 km southwest of Batticaloa.

She said that a high ranking official regularly visited Karuna for discussions at the SLA safehouse in Colombo. According to Nilavini, UNP national list MP, Mr. Alisahir Moulana took Karuna and his associates personally in his own vehicle to Colombo when the renegade commander fled Batticaloa.

''We were first put up at the Colombo Hilton Hotel for 3 days. Thereafter we (including Karuna) stayed in a safehouse somewhere in Colombo for 7-8 days. Later, we were moved to another house by the SLA intelligence from which we could see the Apollo Hospital.'' said Nilavini.

''Varathan was also with us'', she added.

The Apollo Hospital is situated in the Colombo suburb of Narehenpita. The SLA has a camp in this area.

Nilavini said on 13th June Karuna had told them that he was going abroad with his family and left the safehouse the same day in a SLA vehicle.

She said that following Karuna's departure she made a call to a relative in Batticaloa and escaped to the East with his help.

She said her escape was possible because SLA security at the safehouse was lax after the renegade commander's departure.

ஜனாதிபதி சந்திரிகா கூட்டணிக்கு ஆதரவு வழங்கவுள்ளதாக ரவூப் ஹக்கீம் மீண்டும் முரண்பாடான அறிவிப்பு

சிறீலங்கா வாழ் மக்கள் ஜனாதிபதி சந்திரிகா கூட்டணியின் ஆட்சியை தேர்தலில் அங்கீகரித்திருப்பதனால், அவர்களுக்கு தமது கட்சியின் ஆதரவைக் கொடுப்பது தவறில்லை என்று அவர் மேலும் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

ஆரம்பத்திலிருந்து தமது கட்சியின் ஆதரவு ஐ.தே.முன்னணிக்கே என்று தெரிவித்து வந்தாலும், இடையிடையே ஐ.ம.சு.முன்னணிக்கும் தனது ஆதரவை சில நிபந்தனைகளை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளும் பட்சத்தில் வழங்கவுள்ளதாகவும் ரவூப் ஹக்கீம் அவ்வப்போது தெரிவித்து வந்தார்.

கிழக்கில் பல குழப்பங்களுக்குக் காரணமான கருணா இராணுவப் பாதுகாப்பில்தான் இருந்தார், இருக்கிறார் என்பது பற்றிய முழு விவரங்களும் அம்பலமாகிவிட்டன. இந்த அரசும் இராணுவமும் கருணா விடயத்தில் நடந்து கொண்டவிதம் அம்பலமாகியிருப்பது மட்டுமல்ல, அதற்கும் அப்பால், சிங்களப் பேரினவாதக் கட்சிகள் அனைத்துமே இந்த விடயத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தித் தமிழர் போராட்ட சக்தியையே மழுங்கடிக்க முயன்றிருப்பது பரகசியமாகியிருப்பதுதான் அதிர்ச்சி தரும் புதுவிடயம்.

ஐ.ம.சு. கூட்டமைப்பு அரசும் அந்த அரசின் கீழ் இயங்கிய இராணுவமும் கருணா விடயத்தில் இப்படி நடப்பதில் புதுமை ஒன்றும் இல்லை. அவை இப்படித்தான் நடக்கும், நடந்திருக்கும் என்பது எதிர்பார்க்கப்பட்டதுதான். ஆனால், ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் ஏகப்பிரதிநிதிகளான விடுதலைப் புலிகளுடன் இந்தப் பிந்திய சமாதான முயற்சிகளில் முனைப்புடன் ஈடுபடுபவராக வெளியுலகிற்குத் தன்னைக் காட்டிக்கொண்டு, தலைவர் பிரபாகரனுடன் செய்துகொள்ளப்பட்ட புரிந்துணர்வு ஒப்பந்தத்தில் இலங்கை அரசுத் தரப்பில் கையொப்பமிட்ட ஐ.தே. கட்சித் தலைவர் ரணில் விக்கிரமசிங்கவின் பங்களிப்புத்தான் தமிழர் தரப்பை அதிர்ச்சிக்குள் ஆழ்த்தியிருக்கின்றது.

சிங்களத் தரப்பில் ரணில் விக்கிரமசிங்கதான் ஓரளவு மிதவாதத் தலைவர், தமிழர்களின் நியாயமான அபிலாசைகளை அங்கீகரிக்கக் கூடிய மனப்போக்குடையவர், இனப் பிரச்சினைக்கு யுத்தத்தை விடுத்து சமாதான வழியில் தீர்வு காண விரும்புபவர், இராணுவத் தீர்வுப் போக்கில் நாட்டம் கொள்ளாதவர் என்றெல்லாம் தமிழர்கள் தரப்பில் நிலவிய ஒரு கருத்து தப்பு என்பதைக் கருணா விடயம் ஊர்ஜிதப் படுத்தியிருக்கின்றது.

மட்டக்களப்பை விட்டு கருணா தப்பியோடியதற்கு உதவி செய்தவர் ரணிலின் ஐ.தே.கட்சியைச் சேர்ந்த தேசியப்பட்டியல் எம்.பியான அலி சாஹிர் மௌலானாதான். அதனை அவரே ஒப்புக்கொண்டுள்ளார். கருணா பால்ய நண்பர் என்றதால் அதைத் தாம் செய்தார் எனக் குறிப்பிட்டு, தனது நடவடிக்கைகளை நியாயப்படுத்தும் வகையில் சப்புக்கட்டுக் காரணங்களையும் அவர் முன்வைக்கிறார். தனிப்பட்ட ஆளாக - தனிப்பட்ட ஓர் எம்.பி. என்ற முறையில் - அலி சாஹிர் மௌலானா இந்த வேலையைச் செய்திருந்தார் என்றால் அது வேறு விடயம். ஆனால், கட்சித் தலைவர் ரணிலின் ஆசீர்வாதத்துடனும் ஒப்புதலுடனும் இந்த விடயத்தில் அவர் செயற்பட்டார் என்ற தகவல் கசிந்திருப்பதுதான் தமிழர் தரப்பை அதிர்ச்சிக்குள்ளும் எரிச்சலுக்குள்ளும் ஆழ்த்தியிருக்கின்றது.

இதனைப் புரிந்துகொள்வதற்கு ஏப்ரல் முதல் வாரங்களில் நடந்த சம்பவங்களை வாசகர்கள் நினைவு கூர்வது நல்லது. பொதுத் தேர்தல் நடந்தது ஏப்ரல் 2இல். அதில் மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டத்திலிருந்து தெரிவுசெய்யப்பட்ட தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு எம்.பிக்களில் நால்வர் கருணாவின் கட்டுப்பாட்டுக்கு உட்பட்டவர்களாக இருக்கின்றார்கள் என்ற செய்தி அப்போது வெளியாகியிருந்தது. ஏப்ரல் 7,8ஆம் திகதிகளில் கொழும்பில் கஜேந்திரகுமார் பொன்னம்பலம் எம்.பியின் வீட்டில் நடைபெற்ற தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு எம்.பிக்களின் கூட்டத்தில் பங்குபற்ற வந்த மேற்படி எம்.பிக்கள் நால்வரும் தொடர்ந்து கொழும்பில் தங்க விடப்படாமல், பாதுகாப்புக்காக வந்த படையினரால் பலவந்தமாகக் கூட்டிக்செல்லப்பட்டனர்.

ஐ.தே.கட்சியும், ஐ.ம.சு. கூட்டமைப்பும் தமது தேசியப் பட்டியல் எம்.பிக்களின் விவரத்தை ஏப்ரல் 9ஆம் திகதியளவில் தேர்தல் ஆணையாளருக்குச் சமர்ப்பித்தன.

கிழக்கில் கருணா குழு மீதான தாக்குதலை ஏப்ரல் 10 இல் புலிகள் ஆரம்பித்தனர்.

ஏப்ரல் 11 இல் கருணா தனது குழுவினருடன் கிழக்கிலிருந்து கொழும்புக்குத் தப்பி ஓடினார்.

கட்சியின் மூத்த உறுப்பினர்களான முன்னாள் அமைச்சர்கள் திலக் மாரப்பன, டிரோன் பெர்னாண்டோ, ஏ.எச்.எம். அஸ்வர் போன்றோருக்குக்கூட தேசியப்பட்டியல் எம்.பி. பதவியில் இடமளிக்க முடியாத ரணில், அலி சாஹிர் மௌலானாவுக்கு வளைந்து கொடுத்தது இதனால்தான். கொழும்பில் ஏப்ரல் 7,8ஆம் திகதிகளில் நடைபெற்ற தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு எம்.பிக்களின் கூட்டத்திலிருந்து மட்டக்களப்பின் நான்கு எம்.பிக்களைக் கூட்டிச் சென்ற பாதுகாப்புப் படையினர் கூட அலி சாஹிர் மௌலானாவின் வழிநடத்தலிலேயே அப்போது செயற்பட்டனர் எனத் தெரிகின்றது. கொழும்புக்குத் தப்பி ஓடி வந்த கருணா குழுவை நான்கு நாள்கள் தனது வழிநடத்துதலில் வைத்திருந்துவிட்டு அவரை இராணுவத்திடம் ஒப்படைத்தவரும் இதே அலி சாஹிர் மௌலானாதான். கருணாவையும் நான்கு எம்.பிக்களையும் காட்டி அலி சாஹிர் மௌலானா எம்.பி. பதவியைச் சுருட்டிக் கொண்டார். கருணாவையும் நான்கு எம்.பிக்களையும் கையில் போடுவதற்காக அலி சாஹிர் மௌலானாவுக்கு அப்பதவியை வழங்கி அடங்கிப் போனார் ரணில் ஆனால், தேசியப் பட்டியல் எம்.பி. பதவிக்கு அலி சாஹிர் மௌலானா உட்பட ஐ.தே.கட்சிப் பிரமுகர்களின் பெயர்கள் தேர்தல் ஆணையாளருக்கு உத்தியோகபூர்வமாக வழங்கப்பட்ட 24 மணி நேரத்துக்குள் கதை தலைகீழாகி விட்டது வேறு விடயம். அடுத்த ஓரிரு நாள்களில் கருணா மட்டக்களப்பை விட்டே ஓடித்தப்பும் நிலை ஏற்பட்டது. என்றாலும் கருணாவைத் தம் பக்கம் பயன்படுத்த ரணில் முயன்றார் என்பது தமிழர்கள் மனதை நெருடும் விடயம்தான்.

இலங்கை அரசு இரட்டை வேடம் போட்டுக் கொண்டு பேசுவதை நாம் அனுமதிக்க முடியாது. முதலில் போரா, சமாதானமா என்பதை தீர்மானிக்கவேண்டும். அதுவரை இராணுவத்துடனான மாதாந்த சந்திப்பை நிறுத்தி இருக்கிறோம் என தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் மூத்த தளபதி ரமணன் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தின் இன்றையநிலை தொடர்பான விழிப்புணர்ச்சிக் கருத்தரங்கு நேற்றுமுன்தினம் நாவிதனவெளி அனனமலை மகாவித்தியாலயத்தில் நடைபெற்றபோதே அவர் இதனைத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

விடுதலைப் .புலிகளுடன் பேசியே தீர வேண்டும் என்ற நிர்ப்பந்தம் அரசுக்கு இருப்பதால் இராணுவ முகாம்களை மேலும் அமைக்க முடியாது என்றும் கபில கந்தவிதான கருணாவிடம் கூறி இருந்தார்.

புலிகள் மீதான தடை தொடரும்: அமெரிக்கா

தடை செய்யப்பட்ட இயக்கங்களின் பட்டியலில் இருந்து விடுதலைப் புலிகளை நீக்க மாட்டோம் என அமெரிக்கா அறிவித்துள்ளது.

இது குறித்து அமெரிக்க வெளியுறவுத்துறை துணை அமைச்சர் கிரிஸ்டினா ரோக்கா அந் நாட்டு நாடாளுமன்றக் குழுவின் விசாரணைக் கூட்டத்தில் பேசுகையில்,

தடை செய்யப்பட்ட இயக்கங்கள் பட்டியலில் இருந்து இப்போது புலிகளை நீக்க மாட்டோம்.

தீவிரவாதத்தை ஒரு கொள்கையாக வைத்திருக்க மாட்டோம் என அவர்கள் அறிவிக்காதவரை, சிறார்களை படையில் சேர்ப்பதை அவர்கள் நிறுத்தாதவரை புலிகள் மீதான தடையை நீக்க மாட்டோம்.

புலிகள், இலங்கை அரசுக்கு இடையே ஆகஸ்ட் மாதத்துக்கு முன் மீண்டும் பேச்சுவார்த்தை தொடங்க சாத்தியம் இருப்பதாகத் தெரியவில்லை. இந்த விஷயத்தில் மிகச் சிறப்பான பணியை ஆற்றி வருகிறது நார்வே நாடு.

அமைதிப் பேச்சுவார்த்தையைத் தொடங்குவதில் இலஙகை அரசு தீவிரமாக இருப்பதாகவே கருதுகிறேன். அதே நேரத்தில் புலிகளின் தலைமையில் சுயாட்சி அதிகாரம் கொண்ட தனி நிர்வாகம் அமைய அதிபர் சந்திரிகா விரும்பவில்லை.

இவ்வாறு கிரிஸ்டினா ரோக்கா கூறியுள்ளார்.

SLMC reiterates conditional support to UPFA government

Mr.Rauff Hakim, Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) told media persons in Kandy Monday that his party is prepared to consider supporting the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government if it decided to abandon its attempt to revert the parliament into a constituent assembly and accommodate a separate Muslim delegation in the future peace talks with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Mr. Hakim met with the press after he paid his homage to the newly elected Mahanayake Thera of Malwatte Chapter Most Venerable Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera in Kandy, capital of central province, sources said

Mr. Hakim further said that Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge should first think that she is the Executive President of the whole country and not of her political party.

"We have come together with the Opposition to show our disapproval of the undemocratic acts of ruling party parliamentarians in the august assembly," said Mr.Rauff Hakim.

President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge was interested only in clinging to power and was not really interested in resuming the stalled peace talks, said Mr. Hakim.

Ali Zahir Maulana resigns MP post over Karuna affair

Mr.Ali Zahir Maulana, National List Parliamentarian of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) Wednesday evening handed over his resignation letter to Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe, leader of the UNP following the revelation of his connection in the escape of the LTTE renegade commander Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna and his associates from the East to Colombo, party sources said.
Four former female associates of Karuna have stated at a press conference on Monday that Mr.Ali Zahir Maulana provided safe passage to Karuna and his group including them from Batticaloa to Colombo via Dambulla and Kurunagala.

Mr.Ali Zahir Maulana is reported to have stated in his resignation letter that he provided safe passage to Karuna group to Colombo on humanitarian grounds without the knowledge of his party leadership.

UNP's involvement with Karuna jeopardises peace process

The opposition United National Party's reported involvement with the renegade LTTE commander, Col Karuna, has further complicated the peace process in Sri Lanka, which is already mired in a controversy over the agenda for the peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE.

Nilavini, a close associate of Karuna's who sided with Velupillai Prabhakaran last weekend, had said that it was an UNP MP, Ali Zaheer Mowlana, who had escorted Karuna and his entourage to Colombo after the collapse of his 41-day revolt against Prabhakaran.

The pro-LTTE daily Sudar Oli said in an editorial on Wednesday that Mowlana had done so with the knowledge of his party chief, Leader of the Opposition, and former Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe.

According to the daily, Mowlana had been in touch with Karuna, for a long time. The April 2 parliamentary elections in Batticaloa and Amparai districts, which were held when Karuna was controlling that area, had returned four Tamil MPs who were known as Karuna's nominees. Mowlana saw a major political opportunity in this development. He lost no time in taking these four MPs under his wing. When the foursome had to come to Colombo to attend a post-election meeting of their pro-LTTE party, the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK), Mowlana arranged police protection for them, as they could be attacked by Prabhakaran's agents.

Mowlana told his party leader Wickremesinghe, that Karuna and his four MPs were under his control and that they could be useful. This is said to have impressed Wickremesinghe who rewarded him with a seat in parliament under the nominated National List. Mowlana had got the nomination over-riding the claims of many stalwarts of the UNP, who had been cabinet ministers in the Wickremesinghe government.

Sudar Oli said that the Tamils, who believed that Ranil Wickremesinghe and his UNP were more friendly with them than the ruling United Peoples' Freedom Alliance (UPFA), would be very dismayed by Nilavini's revelations. They would again prove to the Tamils that no Sinhala-majority was genuinely friendly and sympathetic to them. They were birds of the same feather which necessarily flocked together.

The Sinhala-majority in Sri Lanka was hoping that Karuna would help weaken the LTTE and drive a wedge between the Eastern Tamils and Northern Tamils. If the latter were to happen the LTTE led by Prabhakaran would not be able to realise its dream of uniting the North and East and form a single Tamil Homeland. The Sinhala fear is that under a united North and East, the Sinhala and Muslim communities in the East will be discriminated against and oppressed by the Tamil majority. It is also felt that a Tamil Homeland or Tamil Eelam without the East will be a very weak one, and that the separatist project will eventually fail. The East is agriculturally fertile and has one of the world's best harbours -Trincomalee. The North, on the other hand, is arid.

When Karuna revolted against Prabhakaran in March this year, he had raised the issue of the Northern Tamils discriminating against the Eastern Tamils. Sinhala leaders and the Sinhala press were overjoyed and it was rumoured that the Sri Lankan armed forces were tacitly helping the rebel.

Eventually, Nilavini, came out with the full story. She told newsmen that Mowlana had arranged for a Sri Lanka police escort to Karuna and 17 others who had fled with him. They were put up in Hilton Hotel in Colombo for three days, before they were shifted to bungalows within Colombo and outside. Sri Lankan security forces provided security and an intelligence officer would frequently come to meet Karuna.

Cabinet minister and pro-government Tamil leader, Douglas Devananda, used to contact Karuna frequently over the phone asking him to join his Eelam Peoples' Democratic Party (EPDP). But Karuna told him that he preferred to start his own party and work with Sri Lankan intelligence, Nilavini said.

She and three other women associates of Karuna's were against this plan and wanted to return to Batticalao. Nilavini said that the mainstream LTTE had been in touch with her over mobile phone and had promised an amnesty if she and others abandoned Karuna. Karuna, who had ceased communicating with his associates for sometime, suddenly disappeared. Once this happened, security was relaxed and the women cadres were able to escape easily.

The current whereabouts of Karuna are not known. But the LTTE believes that he is somewhere under Sri Lankan armed forces' protection.

The LTTE is reported to have decided to take up the issue of the Sri Lankan government's complicity with Karuna and expose it throughout the world. The LTTE sees the government's role as a sign of its insincerity in regard to the peace process.

The Tamil media reported on Wednesday that Devananda had admitted that he was in touch with Karuna, over the phone. But all that he had done was to encourage the rebel to join the national democratic mainstream. Mowlana was quoted as saying that he helped Karuna as he had been a childhood friend.

இன்று பி.பி.சிக்கு வழங்கிய செவ்வியிலேயே இவ்விவகாரத்தை ஒத்துக் கொண்டுள்ள மங்கள சமரவீர, சமாதானத்தில் நாட்டமில்லாத இராணுவத்தின் ஒரு பிரிவே இவ்வாறு செயற்பட்டிருக்கலாம் எனவும், ஆனால் இது குறித்த விடயம் தற்போதைய அரசிற்குத் தெரியாமலே இடம்பெற்றது எனவும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இதுவரை கருணா பற்றிய எந்த விவகாரத்திலும் தாங்கள் தலையிடவில்லையென சிறிலங்கா அரசு சாதித்து வந்தது. குறிப்பாக, சிறிலங்காவின் பாதுகாப்புச் செயலர் சிறில் ஹரத் இவ்விவகாரத்தை முற்றாக மறுத்ததுடன் சிறிலங்கா அரசாங்கம் கருணாவிற்கு உதவியது என்ற சந்தேகம் இருந்தால் விடுதலைப்புலிகள் அதற்கான ஆதாரங்களைச் சமர்ப்பிக்க வேண்டுமெனவும் கடந்த திங்கட்கிழமை காட்டமாகத் தெரிவித்திருந்தார்.

இந்நிலையில், சிறிலங்காவின் முக்கிய அமைச்சராலேயே கருணா விவகாரத்தில் சிறிலங்காவின் பங்கு ஒத்துக் கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளதானது சிறிலங்காவின் சமாதானத்தின் மீதான அக்கறை குறித்த சந்தேகத்தை எழுப்பியுள்ளதுடன் இவ்விவகாரம் பூதாகரமாகலாம் எனவும் எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

சிறீலங்கா இராணுவம் கருணாவுக்கு உதவவில்லை, மீண்டும் முரண்படுகிறார் பிரதிப் பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சர்

சிறீலங்காவின் பிரதிப் பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சர் ரத்னசிறீ விக்கிரமநாயக்க இன்று கருத்துக் கூறுகையில், கருணாவுக்கு சிறீலங்கா இராணுவம் உதவியதென்று வந்த செய்தியை மீண்டும் மறுத்துள்ளார்.

கொழும்பு இராணுவ மருத்துவமனையைச் சுற்றிப் பார்க்கச் சென்ற பிரதிப் பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சர், அதன் முடிவில் நிருபர்களின் கேள்விகளுக்கும் பதிலளித்தார்.

கடந்த இரண்டரை வருடங்களாக யுத்த நிறுத்தம் அமுலிலிருந்தாலும், சிறீலங்கா பாதுகாப்புப் படையினரின் போரிடும் சக்தியில் எந்த மாற்றமும் ஏற்படவில்லை, அவர்கள் மிகவும் பலமான இராணுவப் போர்ப் பலத்துடனேயே தொடர்ந்தும் இருந்து வருகிறார்கள். தற்போது அனைத்துப் பாதுகாப்புப் படையினரும் உசார் நிலையிலேயே உள்ளனர் என்று குறிப்பிட்டார்.

விடுதலைப் புலிகள் அமைப்பிலிருந்து நீக்கப்பட்ட கருணாவுக்கு சிறீலங்கா அரசு உதவியமை குறித்து வினவப்பட்டபோது, தற்போதைய அரசிலும் பாதுகாப்புப் படைகள் மீதும் அபகீர்த்தியை உண்டுபண்ணுவதற்காக சில அநாமதேய சக்திகள் இந்த விசமப் பிரச்சாரத்தில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளதாகவும், தமது அரசோ, இராணுவமோ எதுவிதத்திலும் கருணா குழுவுக்கு இதுவரை உதவவில்லை என்றும் குறிப்பிட்டு, அக்குற்றச்சாட்டை நிராகரித்தார்.

கருணாவுக்கு அரசு உதவியது என்ற குற்றச்சாட்டை முதலில் ஜனாதிபதி சந்திரிகா நிராகரித்திருந்ததும், பின்னர் பாதுகாப்பு செயலாளரும் அரச பேச்சாளருமான சிரில் ஹேரத் மறுதலித்திருந்ததும் அறிந்ததே.

திடீரென ஐ.தே.மு. உறுப்பினர் அலிசாஹிர் மௌலானா, தான் கருணாவுக்கு உதவியதையும், அவரைக் கொழும்புக்கு அழைத்து வந்து சிறீலங்கா இராணுவ அதிகாரிகளிடம் ஒப்படைத்ததையும் பகிரங்கமாக ஒத்துக் கொண்டார்.

அதைத் தொடர்ந்து, ஆளும் ஐ.ம.சு.மு. அரசின் தகவல் தொடர்பு அமைச்சர் மங்கள சமரவீர, அரசு கருணா தப்பிப்பதற்கு உதவியதையும், இராணுவத்தின் பாதுகாப்பையும் ஒத்துக் கொண்டார்.

ஆளும் கட்சியின் இன்னுமொரு அமைச்சரான டக்ளஸ் தேவானந்தா, தனக்கு கருணாவுடன் உள்ள தினசரி நேரடித் தொடர்பையும் சர்வதேச ஊடகத்திடம் பகிரங்கமாக ஒத்துக் கொண்டார்.

எனினும், ஆளும் கட்சியின் இன்னுமொரு அமைச்சரான ரத்னசிறீ விக்கிரமநாயக்க இன்று அதே கருத்தை மீண்டும் நிராகரித்துள்ளார்.

இவ்வாறு முன்னுக்குப் பின் முரணான கருத்துக்களை ஆளும் கட்சியின் அமைச்சர்கள் வெளியிட்டு வருகையில், ஜனாதிபதியும் பிரதமரும் மௌனம் சாதிப்பது, பலத்த சந்தேகத்தையே கிழப்பியுள்ளது.

NorthEast prepares to celebrate<b> Black Tigers </b>Day

Celebrations marking the Black Tigers day are to be held in different parts of NorthEast on 5 July, event organizers said. Key junctions and roads leading to celebration venues will be decorated and Sporting events, Poetry, Story writing competitions, and welfare activities to assist students in poor neighrborhoods will be held during the day, according to the organizers.

July 5 is the anniversary of the death of the first Black Tiger, Captain Miller, who was killed destroying a Sri Lanka Army base located in the Nelliady Madhya Maha Vidyalayam, 25km North east of Jaffna town - one of the main sites of the planned celebrations.

Reports added that the area surrounding Nelliady school is being cleaned and debris removed by local residents participating in a voluntary program. A temporary structure to exhibit the photographs of black tigers is expected to be completed soon, according to the reports.

Local media reported that a special event is also being planned to be held in one of the islets to ease the travel burden on the residents of the several islets west of Jaffna who would otherwise have to make arduous trip to attend events in peninsula proper.

The International Student Federation requested the student participants in poetry writing to send their submissions with a recommendation from the school principal to their office Thinnaively Jaffna.

Black Tigers' identities are closely guarded. Having completed their training, they serve in regular LTTE units, concealing their membership. When called up for a mission, they take routine leave and if they survive, return to regular service again. Membership is only revealed if they are killed in combat.

A British film crew which met up with some Black Tigers in the east of the island in 1996, discounted government claims that the Tigers were irrational or drug-crazed.

The commandos are some of the LTTE's best fighters and often have several years combat experience.
