COLOMBO (AFX) - Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers will hold talks with the Colombo government on salvaging their truce 'in a couple of weeks' in Norway, Agence France Presse reported a pro-rebel website quoted the separatists' top negotiator as saying.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) wrote to peace broker Norway agreeing to hold talks amid fears for the ceasefire following last week's assassination of Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, Tamilnet reported.
'The LTTEs theoretician (Anton Balasingham) revealed that the talks, facilitated by the Norwegians, would be held in Oslo within the next couple of weeks,' the Tamilnet website said.

<b>Sri Lanka peace talks to resume</b>
<b>The Tamil Tiger rebels have agreed to resume talks with the government to review the country's fragile cease-fire, the Norwegian Embassy in Colombo and a rebel spokesman said Friday.</b>
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam have "agreed to discuss the CFA (cease-fire agreement) with the Sri Lankan government," Tom Knappskog of the Norwegian Embassy said. "The willingness to have the talks is there, but no date or venue have been decided."
Tamil rebel spokesman Daya Master, in response to Knappskog's comments, confirmed that an agreement in principle had been reached to hold talks but that no date or venue had been set.
The Tigers have agreed to "participate in a review of the implementation of the cease-fire agreement in order to find practical ways of ensuring full compliance by both parties," the pro-rebel TamilNet Web site quoted senior rebel leader Anton Balasingham as saying.
Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga wants to hold direct talks with rebels in an effort to end a spate of political assassinations that have plagued the country, her office said.
The talks will be held in Oslo, Norway, within the next couple of weeks, Balasingham was quoted as saying.

கடந்த புதன்கிழமை லண்டனில் நோர்வேயின் வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சர் ஜான் பீற்றர்சன், பிரதி வெளிவிகார அமைச்சர் விதார் ஹெல்கீசன் ஆகியோர் கலாநிதி அன்டன் பாலசிங்கத்தை சந்தித்த போது இது தொடர்பான தமது ஆலோசனைகளை விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் தலைவர் வே.பிரபாகரனிடம் தெரிவிக்கும் படி வழங்கியிருந்தனர்.
இதில் போர் நிறுத்த ஒப்பந்தத்தை நடைமுறைப்படுத்துவதில் எழுந்துள்ள சிக்கல்கள் தொடர்பாக அவசர சந்திப்பு ஒன்று இடம்பெற வேண்டும் என தெரிவித்திருந்தனர்.
தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் தலைவர், இவ்விடயத்தை சாதகமாக கருதி உயர்மட்டக்குழுவை சிறிலங்கா அரசுடன் பேச்சு நடத்த அனுப்புவதற்கு முடிவு செய்துள்ளதாக கலாநிதி அன்டன் பாலசிங்கம் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
நோர்வேயின் அனுசரணையுடன் இடம்பெறவுள்ள இச்சந்திப்பு அடுத்த ஒரு சில வாரத்திற்குள் நோர்வேயின் தலைநகர் ஒஸ்லோவில் இடம்பெறும் என்றும், இச்சந்திப்பில் வடக்கு கிழக்கில் அதிகரித்துள்ள வன்முறைகள் தொடர்பாக ஆராயப்படும் என்றும் கலாநிதி அன்டன் பாலசிங்கம் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
