Oct 13, Colombo: Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham has refused to meet the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran during his official visit to the island this week. A much-waited decision was conveyed to the LTTE by Canadian High Commission in Colombo yesterday.
"The meeting would badly affect the Canadian international politics as well as Canada's reputation," High Commission said in a statement.
The Canadian Foreign Minister will arrive in Colombo on October 14 and he is scheduled to travel to war-ravaged Jaffna.
The LTTE's Political Secretariat had earlier faxed a letter to the Canadian High Commission in Colombo extending an invitation on behalf of the Tamil people and the LTTE Leader requesting the Canadian Foreign Minister to undertake a trip to Kilinochchi for a meeting with Prabhakaran.
"We are regretting to inform you that the Canadian Foreign Minister is not in a position to meet your leader during his official visit to Sri Lanka," a statement issued by the High Commission said. Mr. Bill Graham will meet with a number of political leaders including President Chandrika Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse.

Oct 15, Colombo: Canadian Foreign Minister Bill Graham has arrived in the island for a three-day official tour. He expects to meet the leaders of the government and other political party representatives.
The Canadian Foreign Minister is scheduled to visit Jaffna on Thursday and expected to inspect several projects implemented under Canadian funds.
Speaking to the journalists the Canadian FM said that he did not expect to meet LTTE leaders. He said that Canada wished that the LTTE would dedicate themselves to the peace process and would end the crisis through discussions.
