EU envoy meets Sri Lanka rebel
Protesters in Colombo made their opinion of Mr Patten plain
European Union envoy Chris Patten has held talks with the Tamil Tiger rebel leader Velupillai Prabhakaran on a controversial visit to Sri Lanka.
No details of the discussion have been released, but Mr Patten said he was seeking assurances that the Tigers are committed to the island's ceasefire.

கடைசழயா வந்த அறிக்கைகளை வைத்து பார்க்கேக்கை பிரித்தானியா புலிகளின் மீதான தடையை எடுக்கலாம் என நம்பப்படுகிறது. இது அடுத்த வருடம் நடைபெறலாம். இது நடைபெற்றால் அமிரிக்காவும் தடையை எடுக்கலாம். தடை எடுபடும் படச்த்தில் வடக்கு கிழக்கில் வீடுதலைப் புலிகளின் உதவியுடன் பல அபிவிருத்தி திட்டங்களையும், முதலீடுகளையும் செய்ய சில பிரித்தானிய நிறுவனங்கள் ஆயத்தமாக உள்ளன. அதில் ஒரு நிறுவனத்தின் உயர் பதவியில் ஒரு தமிழர் இலைமறைகாயாக இருந்து செயற்பட்டுவருகிறார். இவர் இரு தடைவை தனது நிசுவனம் சார்பாக பிரித்தானிய பிரதமரை கூட சந்தித்திருக்கிறார். ம் பொறுத்திருந்து பாரப்போம்!

சமாதானத்தை உரப்படுத்தும் தலைவரின் உரை! சமாதானத்தில் சந்தேகம் கொண்ட அனைவருக்கும் அதை தெளிவு படுத்தியதுடன், சமாதான முலமான தீர்வில் தாம் இன்னமும் ந்ம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருப்பதாக உறுதிப்படுத்தியது, புலிகள் மீதான சந்தேகங்களை சர்வதேச அளவில் நிச்சயம் நீக்கும். தெற்கில் அரசியல் சுமுகநிலை இல்லாத போதும் தாம் மிக அவதானத்துடன் இருப்படன் மீண்டும் ஆயுதத்தை து}க்க வேண்டிய நிர்ப்ந்தத்திற்கு தம்மை தள்ளவேண்டாம் என பேரினவாதிகளுக்கு எச்சரிக்ககை விடுத்தமையும் இன்றைய காலத்தின் தேவையே. தலைவரின் மாவீரர் உரை பற்றிய மற்றவர்கள் கருத்துக்களையும் தாருங்களேன்!

சிங்களப் பேரினவாதத்தின் சிலந்தி வலைக்குட் சிக்கித் தமிழரின் வாழ்வும் வளமும் சிதைந்து போவதை நாம் இனியும் அனுமதிக்க முடியாது. வன்முறையைத் துறந்துஇ மென்முறைப் பாதையைத் தழுவி சமரசத்திற்கும் சமாதான முன்னெடுப்புகளுக்கும் எம்மால் முடிந்தளவு நாம் முயற்சித்து வருகின்றோம்.
இதனை உலக நாடுகளனைத்தும்; நன்கறியும். ஆனால்இ சிங்கள இனவாத ஆளும் வர்க்கம் தொடர்ந்தும் எமது மக்களின் உரிமைகளை மறுத்துஇ சமரசத் தீர்வுகளை எதிர்த்துஇ ஒடுக்குமுறையைத் தொடருமானால் எமது மக்களுக்கு உரித்தான சுயநிர்ணய உரிமையின் கீழ் நாம் பிரிந்து சென்று தனியரசைக் கட்டி எழுப்புவதைத் தவிர எமக்கு வேறு வழியில்லை. இப்படியான இறுதி மார்க்கத்திற்குத் தமிழர்களைத் தள்ளிவிடும் புறநிலையை உருவாக்கிவிடவேண்டாமென நாம் சிங்கள அரசியல் தலைமைகளுக்கு வேண்டுகோள் விடுக்கின்றோம்.

The leader of Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels has threatened to form a breakaway state if Colombo does not give him self-governing rights in the country's north-east.
Vellupillai Prabhakaran, however, denied that he was rearming his group and said he was still open to a negotiated settlement of the civil war that has killed 65,000.
But if the government continues to oppress Tamils and deny them their rights, he said: "we have no alternative other than to secede and form an independent state.
"We urge the Sinhala political leadership not to create the objective conditions that would drive our people to seek this ultimate option."
