விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் உள்ள திருகோணமலை உப்பாறு பிரதேசத்தில் விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் முகாமுக்கு 200 மீற்றர் தொலைவு வரை நுழைந்த சிறீலங்கா கடற்படைப் படகு மீது விடுதலைப்புலிகள் தாக்குதல் நடத்தியுள்ளனர்.
இச்சம்பவம் குறித்து விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் திருகோணமலை அரசியல் துறைப்பொறுப்பாளர் எழிலன் போர்நிறுத்த கண்காணிப்புக்குழுவிடம் முறைப்பாடு செய்துள்ளார்.
தமது முறைப்பாடு குறித்து எழிலன் தெரிவிக்கையில்
'இன்று முற்பகல் திருகோணமலை துறைமுகப் பகுதியிலிருந்து சுற்றுக்காவல் நடவடிக்கையில் ஈடுபட்ட சிறீலங்கா கடற்படைப் படகு ஒன்று உப்பாறுப்பகுதிக்குள் நுழைந்தது.
'அப்போது கடலில் பலத்த சத்தம் ஒன்று கேட்டது. அப்பகுதி முகாமிலிருந்த போராளிகள் என்ன நடந்தது என்பதை பார்ப்பதற்கு கடற்கரைக்கு வந்தனர்.
'அங்கு சிறீலங்கா கடற்படைப் படகை அவர்கள் கண்டனர். போராளிகளைக்கண்ட கடற்படையினர் தமது படகை கரையை நோக்கிச் செலுத்தினர். இதனையடுத்து போராளிகள் தமது முகாமை நோக்கி ஓடினர். அவ்வேளை போராளிகளை நோக்கி கடற்படையினர் துப்பாக்கிச்;சூடு நடத்தினர்.
'முகாமுக்கு வந்த போராளிகள் கடற்படைப்படகு கரையிலிருந்து சுமார் 200 மீற்றர் தூரத்துக்குள் வந்து தம்மீது தாக்குதல் நடத்திய கடற்படைப்படகு மீது துப்பாக்கிப்பிரயோகம் செய்தனர்.
இதனையடுத்து கடற்படைப்படகு திரும்பிச்;சென்றது. விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் கட்டுப்பாட்டுப்பகுதிக்குள் - கரையிலிருந்து சுமார் 200 மீற்றருக்குள் - இந் நடவடிக்கையானது போர்நிறுத்த மீறல் சம்பவமாகும்.
இச்;சம்பவம் தொடர்பாக போர்நிறுத்த கண்காணிப்புக்குழுவிடம் முறைப்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது"- என்றார்.
இதேவேளை இத்தாக்குதலில் தமது படகு சேதமடைந்ததாகவும் இதில் கடற்கண்காணிப்பாளர் ஒருவர் வந்ததாகவும் சிறீலங்கா கடற்படையினர தெரிவிக்கின்றனர்.
கடற்படைப்படகு அத்துமீறி நுழைந்து துப்பாக்கிப்பிரயோகம் செய்த போர்நிறுத்த மீறலின் போதுதான் போராளிகள் சுட்டனர் என்றார்.

Sri Lanka Army accuses Tamil Tigers of cease-fire violationCOLOMBO, Apr 5, 2005 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Sri Lanka's Army accused the Tamil Tiger rebels of violating the ongoing cease-fire agreement by firing at a Sri Lanka Navy boat in the eastern waters Tuesday.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) fired at the Sri Lanka Navy boat at Upparu area in the eastern Trincomalee district.
The boat was on a routine patrol and on board was a member of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) when it was fired at around 10 a.m. local time (04:00 GMT).
"This is a serious violation of the cease-fire", Daya Ratnayake, the defense ministry spokesman said.
The bullets caused five holes on the hull of the boat but no one was hurt.
However, the SLMM representative on board suffered a head gash when he was taking cover hitting his head on the deck.
Although the February 2002 cease-fire agreement had largely been held, this sort of skirmishes had occurred from time to time.
The government, the LTTE and the Norwegian peace brokers are currently deadlocked in their repeated attempts to revive the stalled peace negotiations.
The direct peace talks aimed at ending the long drawn out separatist conflict began in September 2002 came to be stalled in April 2003.

LTTE fires Navy vessel in Trincomalee, wounds a SLMM monitor
Tuesday, April 5, 2005, 14:00 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Apr 05, Colombo: A Navy inshore patrol craft with a representative of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission and seven sailors aboard, came under LTTE attack with machine guns this morning while the craft was engaged in its routine patrol at Upparu in Trincomalee, injuring the monitor.
Military spokesman Brigadier Daya Ratnayake said that the naval craft, caught in the LTTE shower of more than 75 bullets directed from an LTTE hideout in un-cleared areas received damages to its hull. The SLMM official, Alf Stoelann was injured when he tried to take cover inside the naval craft against the gunfire.
“This deliberate LTTE attempt of shooting in broad daylight, seen as one of the purposeful provocative acts when LTTE very well knew that this boat movement was of a regular one with SLMM onboard, poses a serious threat for naval troops to conduct their legitimate security duties in the sea,” he said.

Tamil Tiger rebels have opened fire on a Sri Lankan navy ship carrying an international cease-fire monitor, a military spokesman said.
The monitor sustained minor injuries after diving for cover when the ship was attacked near the eastern port of Trincomalee, reports said.
The Tigers deny attacking the vessel but say they returned fire.
A cease-fire between the Tigers and the government, in force since February, 2002, has been under growing strain.
Peace talks between the government and the rebels have been suspended since April 2003.
The navy patrol boat was on a routine tour when the rebels shot "75 to 100 rounds of small arms fire" at it south-east of the main harbour of Trincomalee, military spokesman Daya Ratnayake said.

The ship was flying with the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission flag indicating that monitors are on board when it came under attack, Helen Olafsdottir, spokeswoman for the European-sponsored truce monitoring mission told the Associated Press news agency.
"It's a very serious incident, we don't take this lightly," she said.
"But we can't confirm that it was the LTTE [rebels] until more investigations are conducted."
She said only about 35 rounds had been fired.

Military spokesman Daya Ratnayake told the AFP news agency that the attack was a serious breach of the truce between the government and rebels.
The BBC's Dumeetha Luthra in Colombo says similar incidents have happened in the past, but this attack is significant because the navy boat was carrying an international monitor and a large number of rounds were fired.

The head of the Tamil Tiger's political wing in Trincomalee has denied that the Tigers were involved in the incident, according to the pro-Tiger Tamilnet website.
Last month, an attack on a top female Tamil Tiger leader in Sri Lanka raised fears of a return to violence threatening a fragile three year truce.
The Norwegian-led peace monitors have expressed their concern over the rising violence.
More than 60,000 people have died since the rebels began their fight for a homeland for minority Tamils in 1983.
