12 SLN troopers killed in Claymore attack in Trincomalee

At least 12 Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) troopers were killed in a Claymore attack near Thampalakamam on 9th Mile Post on Trincomalee - Kanthalay Road around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to military sources in Colombo. Eight SLN personnel were seriously wounded in the Claymore attack that targeted an SLN convoy.
Further details are not available at the moment.

Two British citizens have been injured and 12 Sri Lankans killed in a mine blast on the island.
The attack has been blamed on Tamil Tiger rebels.
No more details have been released about the Britons.
A vehicle carrying the sailors was attacked near the northeastern port of Trincomalee.
"There are 12 dead and eight injured," a navy spokesman said. "It was a claymore attack."
The armed forces have also blamed the rebels for a similar attack in northern Sri Lanka on Monday that killed seven.
Government leaders and rebels are due to meet next week for talks in Switzerland.

<b>Norfolk pair hurt in terror blast</b>

A mother and daughter from Norfolk are reported to have been injured in a terror attack in Sri Lanka.
It is thought that a bus carrying navy personnel hit a mine planted by Tamil Tiger rebels in the north east of the country.
The Britons, who were tourists, are thought to have been in another vehicle nearby.
The Associated Press news agency reported that the injured pair were a mother and daughter from East Harling, Norfolk. They have been transferred to Colombo in a Sri Lankan air force helicopter.
The attack killed 12 sailors and injured a further eight.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry, in a press statement issued on Tuesday condemned the latest acts of violence in Sri Lanka. Noting the heavy loss of life in Tuesday's Claymore attack in Trincomalee, the statement said that the assassination of the prominent Tamil civil society representative in Trincomalee, Mr V. Vigneswaran, and other serious incidents are adding to the vortex of violence that could eventually create a situation similar to that in December 2005 and January this year.

Norway condemns the latest acts of violence in Sri Lanka
The Government of Norway condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the latest acts of violence in Sri Lanka.
The media report heavy loss of life in a new Claymore mine attack today. This is the third such attack in the last three days in which people have been killed or seriously injured.
These attacks must be seen against the backdrop of other serious acts of violence during the last few days. The assassination of a prominent Tamil civil society representative in Trincomalee, Mr V. Vigneswaran, and other serious incidents are adding to the vortex of violence that could eventually create a situation similar to that in December 2005 and January this year.
“ I strongly urge the two parties to meet in Geneva on 19-21 April as planned”, says Norwegian Minister for International Development Erik Solheim. “This meeting will provide an opportunity for finding ways to implement the Ceasefire agreement and the promises the parties gave in their previous meeting”.

இறந்தவர்களின் உடல்களையும், காயமடைந்தவர்களையும், இராணுவ ஹெலிகாப்டர் மூலம் , கந்தளாய் மற்றும் அநுராதபுரம் அரசு மருத்துவமனைக்கு கொண்டு சென்றுள்ளதாக இராணுவத்துக்காகப் பேசவல்ல அதிகாரியான, பிரசாத் சமரசிங்க தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
