The UN Panel of Experts have accused Sri Lanka of committing war crimes against the Tamil population in the North-East. We cannot shout war crimes one minute and cheer for Sri Lankan cricket the next. Sports and politics are inseparable.
International sporting events bring in tourism, foreign investment and all the money that comes with it. Money that buys guns, bombs and soldiers to fuel the genocide of Tamils. Above all else, sport legitimises Sri Lanka.

முதல் போட்டி நடைபெறும் இடத்துக்குச் செல்ல இலண்டனில் இருந்து 4 மணித்தியாலம் பயணிக்கவேண்டும். ஆனால் இப்போட்டி இலண்டனில் நடைபெறுவதினால் அதிகளவு மக்கள் கலந்துகொள்ளவேண்டும்.

Members of the Tamil community in London called for a boycott of the Sri Lankan cricket team at Lords cricket ground where England were playing Sri Lanka. UK. 4th June 2011

The tamils through the Tamil youth organisation were calling for this boycott. They argue that the Sri Lankan government needs to be brought to justice for war crimes especially those alleged crimes in 2009 at the final stages of the war. The UN estimate that 40000 Tamil civilians were killed.
